Uprooted Palestinians are at the heart of the conflict in the M.E Palestinians uprooted by force of arms. Yet faced immense difficulties have survived, kept alive their history and culture, passed keys of family homes in occupied Palestine from one generation to the next.
An ‘Israeli’ software company is revealed to have helped Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman [MBS] take over the smart phones of high-ranking Lebanese authorities, senior figures of Hezbollah resistance movement as well as journalists, and spy on their communications.
According to the report published by the French daily newspaper Le Monde, Saudi Arabia’s de facto ruler used the NSO Group’s cell phone-hacking software, Pegasus, to conduct cyber-espionage on Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun, former prime minister Saad Hariri, former foreign minister and leader of the Free Patriotic Movement Gebran Bassil, and Chief of the Directorate of General Security Major General Abbas Ibrahim.
The report added the ‘Israeli’ spyware was abused on behalf of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates between 2018 and 2019 to spy on some Lebanese political officials and journalists.
Le Monde said the Saudi crown prince also called for espionage on Lebanese lawmakers representing Hezbollah Hassan Fadlallah and Ali Fayyad, governor of Lebanon’s central bank Riad Salameh and former finance minister Ali Hassan Khalil.
The report added that the Riyadh and Abu Dhabi regimes had demanded that two renowned Lebanese journalists, director of Beirut-based al-Mayadeen television news network Ghassan bin Jiddo, and correspondent and political analyst for al-Akhbar Arabic language newspaper Ibrahim al-Amin, be kept under close watch.
Similarly, the United Arab Emirates has apparently deployed digital spyware enabling surveillance of top leaders of Yemen’s popular Ansarullah resistance movement and officials from the administration of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.
The Arabic-language al-Khabar al-Yemeni news website reported that Ansarullah’s leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi and Chairman of the Yemeni Supreme Revolutionary Committee Mohammed Ali al-Houthi were among senior Yemeni officials targeted by the UAE.
According to the report, Hadi was also on the list of targets.
One of the most prominent targets was Ahmed Obeid bin Daghr, the former Yemeni prime minister in Hadi’s government. He was under surveillance since April 2016 until the end of 2018.
Being a highly invasive tool, Pegasus is said to be able to turn on the victim’s cell phone camera and microphone and access data on it, meaning that it can effectively turn the phone into a pocket spy.
The ‘Israeli’ firm NSO has been in the headlines since 2016 when experts said it was helping spy on an activist in the UAE.
The University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab, through a study, has found a link between the NSO technology and political surveillance in Mexico, the UAE and Saudi Arabia.
Victims of the hacking spree included diplomats, political dissidents, journalists and top government officials.
Hezbollah Secretary General His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah delivered on Friday, June 25th, 2021 a speech in which he tackled the latest developments on the Lebanese arena.
At the beginning of his speech, Sayyed Nasrallah reflected deep and warm condolences to Imad Hawila who has lost this week his wife and four daughters in a car accident that was caused by traffic of cars waiting their turn in front of a gas station on South Lebanon-Beirut highway. His Eminence also condoled the family of the deceased relative, Hussein Zein, who was driving them to Beirut when the accident happened, for the loss of their son.
Labelling Washington’s banning of websites in the region as an evidence on the fake claims of the US administrations, Sayyed Nasrallah denounced the American aggression against media outlets that majorly belong the culture of resistance.
Moving to the home front, Sayyed Nasrallah blasted the US media provocation targeting the Lebanese people against each other, underscoring that “the real goal behind the American rhetoric is to incite the people of resistance through making the fortifying of the Lebanese Army a suspicious matter.” Nevertheless, Sayyed Nasrallah made clear that Hezbollah always calls for fortifying the Army even if the US is the side in charge.
“When the US attempts to justify its logistic aid to the Lebanese Army it says that it is to confront Hezbollah,” His Eminence said, pointing, however, to that “even in Hezbollah’s practical behavior, we sought support for the Lebanese Army from friendly countries.”
The Hezbollah leader highlighted that “We find the establishment of the Lebanese Army as the real guarantor for Lebanon’s security, stability and unity,” adding that “in our culture, the Lebanese Army is a main part of the golden equation of Lebanon’s strength; which is the Army, the people, and the Resistance.”
Sayyed Nasrallah also explained that the US administration fears that the Lebanese Army would be in a serious and true position to confront the ‘Israeli’ enemy.
Ruling out any Iranian involvement in the Lebanese affairs, Sayyed Nasrallah stated that Iran refuses to discuss any issue other than its nuclear program in the Vienna Talks: “Neither does Iran negotiate on the ballistic missiles, nor on the regional issues.”
Additionally, in the entire course of the Saudi-Iranian talks, the Lebanese issue was not discussed, Sayyed Nasrallah assured citing Iranian allies whom he referred to as “people who don’t hide facts from us.”
The aforementioned talks, Sayyed Nasrallah said, “focused on bilateral ties, and not on the Lebanese issue that doesn’t make any difference in the Saudi-Iranian understandings.”
“Iran doesn’t negotiate on behalf of any side,” His Eminence emphasized, pointing to that it is ready to offer any help when asked to by a friend.
The resistance leader blasted some sides in Lebanon that seek to take advantage of any incident to defame others and settle political accounts and said: “Some sides insist in their political stances to hold Iran and Hezbollah responsible for not forming the Lebanese government, and the Americans are trying to link the Lebanese issue with the negotiations with Iran, but Tehran is the side that is rejecting it.”
While describing the practices of accusing Hezbollah of hindering the formation of a new Lebanese government as a calumny, deception and aggression, Sayyed Nasrallah shifted to an advise saying that “all efforts should consolidate at home to confront the government and lead the country to exit this impasse.”
Elsewhere in his remarks, Sayyed Nasrallah hailed the initiative of Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri which he said has led with different sides to reach an important point which is agreeing on the number of ministers.
Additionally, in comments on the Free Patriotic Movement’s Leader, Gibran Bassil’s proposal, and the reactions that followed, Sayyed Nasrallah slammed the political Takfirism, and sectarian and racial language that have been heard.
“The campaign that was launched after Bassil’s speech is a clear evidence that those who are responding to him don’t listen, and when they listen, they don’t understand, and if it happened that they understood, then they will deny it,” His Eminence explained.
“We started responding to Bassil’s call, we open our hands for help, and we defend the rights of every Lebanese person who has a right; this is our duty,” Sayyed Nasrallah said.
Then he went on to explain Bassil’s use of the word ‘judge’ which he said expresses trust and not the literal meaning of the word, adding that the judge needs to be accepted by either side; this is not suggested and I, myself, am not in place of playing this role, His Eminence noted.
On the level of the humanitarian crisis, Sayyed Nasrallah said that “what we are witnessing on the level of fuel, food, and medicine should be an ethical point of pressure on those concerned with forming the government.”
“We are not neutral regarding the issue of the government, we rather take the stand that supports righteousness, and on the level of the governmental crisis, we have been and we will always be by the side of righteousness,” the resistance leader made clear.
All administrative and logistic introductions to import gasoline and diesel oil from Iran to Lebanon and distributing it have been done, and this promise is still valid, Sayyed Nasrallah underscored, then reiterated the promise he has given a few days earlier that when the state fails to secure the shortage of oil derivatives, then Hezbollah will seek buying oil from Iran.
Expressing that Hezbollah’s perceptions didn’t ever include being involved in the sector of importing gasoline and diesel oil, Sayyed Nasrallah emphasized, without any hesitation, that “we are even ready to work as dustmen for our society and people to preserve their honor and dignity.”
He then addressed those who block paths towards solutions, and advised them to go to their Saudi, Gulf and American friends to help Lebanon in solving the problem of gasoline, diesel and fuel, telling them “we will wish you luck!”
Asking why doesn’t the state establish oil refineries and secure a huge share of the Lebanese market’s needs with lower costs, Sayyed Nasrallah uncovered that there is a company which is ready for this project and just needs an [official] signature.
Elsewhere on the livelihood crisis, Sayyed Nasrallah considered that the finance card could help many Lebanese families to survive amid the crisis.
Sayyed Nasrallah warned that the continued blocking of roads will lead to another line of humiliation aside from that of waiting for gasoline and medicines. “People should pay attention in this stage because vandalizing public facilities & blocking roads harm people & increase their pains.”
Despite the many crises in Lebanon, Sayyed Nasrallah said we have a blessing of security, stability, and civil peace, however, there are some sides that want to push the country to a blast, those are the ones serving the enemy.
His Eminence also mentioned that the Lebanese Forces don’t spare any occasion to attack Hezbollah, but the resistance movement doesn’t respond to them.
Sayyed Nasrallah underscored, from a religious perspective, that burying discord inside the country is the most important thing to do.
Before the end of his speech, Sayyed Nasrallah didn’t miss the opportunity to thank Iraq and every side that would contribute to helping Lebanon overcome its crises.
Sayyed Nasrallah finally hailed the Iraqi Kataib Hezbollah resistance group for joining the equation he has launched in a previous speech about being part of the front that is responsible for defending the holy occupied city of al-Quds in Palestine.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah indicated on Friday that some Lebanese parties unfairly insists on accusing Hezbollah of hindering the cabinet formation in Lebanon and attributing it to false assumptions related to Iran’s nuclear deal.
Delivering a televised speech to tackle the latest developments in Lebanon, Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that Iran has always rejected to include any issue in the Vienna talks other than the nuclear deal.
“The Islamic Republic does not accept to negotiate on behalf of anyone, neither the Lebanese, Syrians, Yemenis, Palestinians, nor the Bahrainis. Iran just helps as a friendly country upon request.”
Sayyed Nasrallah pointed out that Hezbollah has always rejected the governmental void, recalling that the Party rejected the resignation of PM Saad Hariri after the protests in 2019.
Calling for a speedy cabinet formation in light of the deteriorating living conditions and the fuel crisis in Lebanon, Sayyed Nasrallah mentioned that Hezbollah delegation has met with MP Gebran Bassil and that Speaker Nabih Berri has met with PM-designate to facilitate the government creation process.
Commenting on the call of MP Bassil pertaining the cabinet formation, Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that Hezbollah has started to help in the context of defending the rights of all the Lebanese.
Sayyed Nasrallah affirmed that the 8-8-8 formula does not exist in the government, warning all parties against taking false stances based on this assumption.
In this regard, Sayyed Nasrallah stressed that the Lebanese Shia Muslims are not seeking tripartite power-sharing, adding that they also reject such proposals.
“Minister Bassil dd not entrust me with the rights of the Christians and I think no one of the political forces with similar influence may accept the share which satisfies Hezbollah.”
Hezbollah has its distinct conditions that let it accept certain shares and reject the role of settling the governmental dispute, according to Sayyed Nasrallah who added that MP Bassil is smarter enough to avoid driving a wedge between Hezbollah and Amal Movement.
Sayyed Nasrallah emphasized that Hezbollah supports only the righteous demands pertaining the cabinet formation, giving the example of backing the President’s power of participating in the creation of the government and the PM-designate rejection of granting one political team the veto share in the council of ministers.
Hezbollah Chief also commented on the reactions made by some Christian parties to MP Bassil’s call, stressing that sectarianism and racism have blinded them.
Sayyed Nasrallah reiterated that Speaker Berri’s initiative has contributed to the agreement among the concerned parties on the number of ministers and the sectarian distribution of the seats as well as portfolios, adding that this endeavor will continue till it resolves the rest of the controversial points.
Sayyed Nasrallah affirmed that Hezbollah has accomplished all the administrative and logistic preparations for importing gasoline and fuel from Iran, noting that, when the state in Lebanon declare failure to address the crisis, the final order will be given to bring the Iranian fuel.
In this context, Sayyed Nasrallah wondered how some Lebanese parties ignorantly claim that Iran has gasoline shortage, referring to the Iranian fuel ship dispatched to Venezuela.
Sayyed Nasrallah also called on the Lebanese parties that reject Hezbollah decision to import the Iranian fuel to find an alternative, pointing out that Hezbollah will hail any endeavor in this regard.
“If you reject the Iranian aids, why do not you seek that of the USA or the Gulf countries?”
In this regard, Sayyed Nasrallah asked why doesn’t the Lebanese government establish oil refineries to provide a huge portion of the Lebanese market’s needs at lower prices, citing experts as saying that a company from an Eastern country expressed readiness to invest in such a domain.
In this context, Sayyed Nasrallah thanked the Iraqi government for approving the fuel aid (one million tons) to Lebanon despite the hard economic conditions which Iraq suffer from.
Sayyed Nastrallah indicated the governmental subsidization will be certainly cancelled when the Central Bank’s liquidity runs out soon, considering that all the Lebanese parties must share in making this decision in order to assume the responsibility of its repercussions.
Sayyed Nasrallah pointed out that Hezbollah has supported the Ration Card which, upon the parliamentary approval, will help the Lebanese people keep steadfast in face of the crisis.
Meanwhile, Sayyed Nasrallah urged Hezbollah supporters to avoid engaging in social media quarrels which stir sedition, stressing that this is religiously forbidden.
Sayyed Nasrallah called on protesters across Lebanon to refrain from cutting off roads, explaining that such acts would just harm the citizens and might never contribute to any economic progress.
Blocking roads will add a new humiliation queue in addition to that people suffer from at gas stations and pharmacies, adding that vandalizing public properties augments the agonies of the Lebanese people.
Sayyed Nasrallah highlighted the importance of preventing strife in Lebanon, recalling how Hezbollah avoids responding to the remarks and statements which verbally abuse it.
Sayyed Nasrallah noted that Lebanon is still enjoying the bless of stability and civil peace despite all the crises, warning against the attempts of some parties to drag the nation into an all out blast in order to serve the interests of the enemy.
Hezbollah Leader denounced the US move of blocking and seizing dozens of the websites which support the Resistance and the Palestinian people against the Israeli enemy, adding the this exposes Washington’s false claims about the press freedom and religious freedom.
US statements about supporting the Lebanese Army to confront Hezbollah aims at stirring sedition among the Lebanese, according to Sayyed Nasrallah who denied that Hezbollah feels concerned about strengthening the Lebanese military.
Sayyed Nasrallah explained that the Lebanese army soldiers and officers belong to the Lebanese families and hold a patriotic creed, adding that the Army is, according to the Constitution, is commanded by the council of ministers.
Sayyed Nasrallah recalled that Hezbollah has always called for providing the Lebanese Army with missiles and air defenses in order to face the Israeli violations of the Lebanese sovereignty and protect Lebanon’s people, land, sea and airspace.
Sayyed Nasrallah finally thanked Iraq’s Hezbollah Brigades for vowing engagement in Al-Quds formula to defend the Holy City against any Israeli violation or aggression.
Hezbollah Secretary General started his speech by offering deep condolences to Hawila family which lost five of its members (mother and her four daughters) and Zein family which lost the youngster, Hussein, in a tragic car accident near a gas station on South-Beirut highway few days ago.

Head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, held Saturday before noon a press conference, in which he tackled the latest developments in Lebanon.
MP Bassil, who appeared live from his residence in Laqlouq, considered that Lebanon is going through the most dangerous economic crisis in its history, and Lebanon cannot be established in light of the corruption that exists today.
“Without reforms, there will be no money or rise, and reforms have become of equal importance as restoring people’s money, or at least partially compensating them,” he said.
“There will be no salvation if the reform judge does not win over the corrupt judge, and what is happening today is an attempt to prevent a judge from reaching the truth because she decided to disclose the amount of money transferred abroad and the identity of its owners,” Bassil added.
“Judge Ghada Aoun is not corrupt and does not fabricate files; no one can stop her or blame her and she does not follow anyone in her work, that’s why they want to get rid of her,” MP Bassil went on.
He also noted that FPM does not support a judge, but a case, saying: “We support the case of recovering the funds of the Lebanese that were smuggled abroad in an immoral and discretionary manner.”
Bassil accused the political system and some media outlets in Lebanon of trying to prevent Judge Ghada Aoun from completing her interrogations.
“What we know is that the state with most of its agencies, the judiciary with most of its elements, and the media with most of its means, are trying to prevent Judge Ghada Aoun from completing her investigations,” he stressed.
“We understand what they are doing because we have the same experience. Reform is forbidden, fighting corruption is forbidden, and stopping the gains of the corrupt system is forbidden. Otherwise, you will be accused of corruption and be assassinated ‘morally,’ and this is what is happening with Judge Aoun,” he went on.
The FPM leader asked everyone who criticized Judge Ghada Aoun’s moves: “How can you see Ghada Aoun as a rebel against the judiciary and you don’t see the Central Bank rebelling against the forensic audit?”
He stressed that “the thief is afraid of examining and scrutinizing the files, while the innocent is happy with that,” emphasizing that the Free Patriotic Movement seems comfortable when appearing before the court.
“Has the Lebanese judiciary carried out all its duties and all the required measures in the case filed by the Swiss judiciary against the governor of the Central Bank? This is a question we want an answer to,” Bassil added.
“I, Gebran Bassil and the former ministers of the FPM, challenge them to carry out a forensic audit in the Ministry of Energy since the 90s!,” he challenged his opponents.
Bassil called on Europe, if it is serious about continuing reform in Lebanon, to put pressure on the corrupt on the basis of evidence and in accordance with international agreements and laws on combating corruption, money laundering and smuggling, and not based on political calculations.
Government Formation
Commenting on the faltering formation of the government, Bassil accused some political counterparts of demanding half plus one minister, in order to dominate the government’s decisions.
The former Minister lambasted PM-designate Saad Hariri for failing to reach a consensus with the President of the Republic to form the government.
If he does not want to recuse and the President will not resign of course, and if the Parliament does not want to withdraw his designation, then there is only one case to think about, which is the resignation of the Parliament, which means early elections, but will early elections change the equation?,” he underscored.
The “Strong Lebanon” parliamentary bloc, said in a statement following its periodic meeting headed by MP Gebran Bassil, that it “supports the people and their demands, and therefore did not spare any effort to stop the financial collapse, recover people’s money and hold accountable those responsible for the financial crime committed against them.”
Conferees believed that “what the last days have witnessed is the exploitation of the people’s pain for political ends. Practices and slogans indicate what looks like a coup against the President of the Republic, his position, and whoever he represents. It is a deliberate coup to torpedo President Aoun’s reform project and disrupt accountability, foremost among which is the forensic audit that would reveal the truth.”
“Any thinking on the part of anyone to overthrow the president of the republic is an illusion, and we recommend those to just quit trying,” conferees stressed.
The bloc warned “the Lebanese about the danger of what is being prepared for,” stressing that “it will not allow in any way to halt reforms, most of which are a set of draft laws that are still frozen at the House of Representatives.”
Emphasizing keenness on stability and the rights of people to express their opinion, the bloc categorically refused that a small group of rioters should control the rights of millions of Lebanese to move around, warning of “any sabotage act against security that some may resort to as compensation for their failure in the ongoing coup attempt.”
