Syria Welcomes New UN Resolution, Observers to Arrive Late Sunday

Local Editor

International observers are expected to arrive to Syria late Sunday after the UN Security Council unanimously passed a resolution authorizing them to contact all the Syrian sides and ensure that they commit to the ceasefire.

The resolution number 2042 permits sending 30 unarmed observers to Syria by late Sunday, to later send the whole delegation which could consist of maximum 250 members.

For its part, Syria welcomed the new UN resolution, considering it serves the benefit of the Syrian people and protects them from the attacks of the armed groups.

Syrian President’s Advisor Bouthaina Shaaban told media Sunday that 30 members of the observer’s mission will first arrive to Syria to sign a cooperation protocol with the Syrian authorities, and later 250 others will arrive.

The approved protocol ensures Syria’s right to object to the nationalities of some observers.

Moreover, Shaaban stressed that “the work of the observers mission will respect Syria’s sovereignty, while the latter is responsible for providing protection for the delegation which, for its part, is supposed to inform the authorities of all its movements inside the Syrian territories.”

The Syrian official also stated that the government has marked 60 violations by armed groups since the ceasefire came to effect.

Earlier on Saturday, Syria’s permanent representative to the UN Bashar Al-Jaafari assured that his country was taking serious steps to fulfill the plan of International Envoy Kofi Annan and its commitment to ceasefire.

Speaking at the UN Security Council Session, Al-Jaafari reiterated Syria’s positive approach to Annan's mission, and agreed on “the principle of UN observation which respects Syrian sovereignty, and that talks are underway with Annan and his team to formulate a protocol on deploying the observers,” SANA reported.

Moreover, the Syria envoy stated that “Annan's mission can't be successful with only the Syrian governmental support… those countries must commit in words and actions to stopping the funding, arming and training of armed groups, refraining from encouraging them in continuing their terrorist acts, and providing safe havens to their members.”

In parallel, Russia and China agreed on passing the resolution, reassuring the importance of a peaceful end to the crisis in Syria.

Russia's Permanent Representative to the UN Vitaly Churkin emphasized that his country had rejected foreign intervention and the use of force since the beginning, and rather called for a political solution.

“The draft had gone through radical changes, which makes it more balanced and reflective to the real situation,” Churkin said.

China's Representative to the UN Security Council, Li Baodong considered that “the Syrian crisis should end peacefully through political dialogue and we encourage creating the appropriate circumstances to open the way for a political solution led by the Syrians themselves.”

Nuclear Chess

My PhotoOn April 14, two days of nuclear chess began in Istanbul. At issue is Iran's civilian program. So-called P5+1 countries - America, Russia, China, Britain, and France - plus Germany - know it's peaceful. They pretend otherwise.

Expect toing and froing without resolution. Washington plans it that way. So do Britain, France and Germany. They're part of the dirty game claiming Iran has nuclear weapons ambitions.

They demand Tehran prove a negative. How do you provide evidence revealing what you don't have? Resolution won't come from Istanbul. Nor will Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's fatwa against acquiring nuclear weapons help.

He calls possessing them sinful and anti-Islamic. Saying it falls on deaf ears. It's more proof of Washington's hypocrisy. It shows considerations other then Iran's legitimate program are at issue.

On April 14, The New York Times headlined, "At Talks, Nations Seek Commitment From Iran."

"I hope what we will see today is the beginnings of a sustained process," said Catherine Ashton. The EU foreign policy chief's chairing the meeting. She showed where she stands, adding:

Talks are intended "to find ways in which we can build confidence between us and ways in which we can demonstrate that Iran is moving away from a nuclear weapons program." Resolution depends "on what Iran is putting on the table today."

Iran's a Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) signatory. It complies fully with provisions. No evidence suggests a nuclear weapons program or hostile intent against neighbors. Istanbul participants know it.

Iran wants good faith discussions. So do Russia and China. Washington's the main obstacle. It prefers confrontation, not peace and stability.

Nonetheless, Iran agreed to participate despite little hope hardline Western views will soften. In Washington on Thursday, G8 foreign ministers said:

"Iran’s persistent failure to comply with its obligations.... and to meet the requirements of the IAEA Board of Governors resolutions is a cause of urgent concern."

That shows what Tehran's up against. It fully complies, far more than other nations. Instead of credit, it's criticized. Expect little or no change in Istanbul.

On April 12, Haaretz writers Avi Issacharoff and Amos Harel headlined, "Waiting for a meltdown ahead of Iran talks," saying:

"Don't get your hopes up" for dramatic breakthroughs. Expecting something different this time forgets we've been through this exercise before. Past meetings ended at square one. Little more's likely this time. Even optimists believe little at best will be accomplished.

At issue is Washington's hardline stance and real agenda. Its delegation includes mid-level diplomats. It "further attest(s) to the low expectations." If Obama was serious, he'd "send a top-caliber representative" like Hillary Clinton.

She's preoccupied plotting Anti-Assad strategy. Iran's next but for now can wait. Claiming Tehran's a threat is red herring cover for bigger fish to fry. Solidifying regional hegemony is key. First target Syria, then Iran. For now, keep the nuclear pot boiling.

Pretexts conceal real motives. Washington's intend no good. Tehran knows it. It's been on the receiving end for decades. Ahead of Istanbul talks, demands made include closing its heavily protected Fordo facility, halting 20% uranium enrichment, and offshoring existing stockpiles.

In a recent article, former Obama Middle East official Dennis Ross went further. Besides closing Fordo, eliminating 20% enrichment, and offshoring existing stockpiles, he adds halting enrichment beyond 3.5 - 5% needed to produce electricity, letting Iran possess up to 1,000 kilograms at that level, and maintaining a maximum 1,000 centrifuges.

In return, some, not all, sanctions would be eased or lifted. Iran's also falsely accused of sponsoring regional terrorism, as well as other spurious charges. According to Ross, normalization won't happen unless both sides "reach more extensive understandings that go beyond the nuclear agenda."

Like other anti-Iranian zealots, he points fingers one way. Washington's imperial agenda isn't addressed, nor lawless Israeli policies. Instead of making baseless accusations and demanding unreasonable concessions, it's time to consider real threats and name them.

Instead, Ross also suggests Iran forego enrichment altogether and rely solely on "international fuel bank" supplies. In addition, he wants it "to agree not to reprocess, permit recovery of all spent fuel, and institute the level of transparency" it more than already meets.

Moreover, forcing Tehran alone to comply with conditions not imposed on other civilian nuclear countries exposes the hypocrisy of America's agenda and what's really behind it. It's not Iran's nuclear program. It's Washington's hegemony plans and determination to replace independent states with client ones.

At the same time, Ross and others question whether Iran will negotiate in good faith. Tehran's not the issue. It's Washington, Israel, other complicit allies, and former officials like Ross.

Anti-Defamation League head Abe Foxman calls him Israel's "advocate." Middle East analyst Aaron David Miller says he's "Israel's lawyer." Others call him a Zionist hardliner up to no good for Palestine or Israel's regional rivals, including Iran.

He also co-founded the AIPAC-linked Washington Institute for Near East Policy (WINEP). An extremist Israeli front group, it's board of advisors includes rogue figures like Henry Kissinger, George Shultz, James Woolsey, and Richard Perle.

On April 14, Iran's FARS News Agency reported late morning/afternoon talks concluded, saying:

Its team will hold "separate bilateral meetings" with other delegations ahead of evening discussions. Talks began at 11AM local time. Iran's chief nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, heads Tehran negotiators. Catherine Ashton leads representatives from the six attending world powers.

Past discussions were held in Geneva in December 2010 and Istanbul in January 2011. Resolution wasn't achieved. According to Iranian team member Supreme National Security Council Undersecretary Ali Baqeri, talks will end this evening.

They "will be held in one day and will not continue for a second day," he said. At day's end, all sides agreed to meet again on May 23. Catherine Ashton said talks were "constructive and useful. (W)e want to move to a sustained process of dialogue."

A US official wants more. Calling discussions insufficient, he said concrete steps must follow. Expect no breakthroughs later on. Washington won't tolerate them.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov stressed:

"I have never witnessed any proof or document indicating that Iran's nuclear activity is military. I believe that we should be seeking agreements, instead of magnifying differences, in order to resolve the issue."

With regard to Iran's nuclear enrichments rights, he added:

"According to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the Islamic Republic of Iran is entitled to the right to make use of nuclear energy, but this right is accompanied by some responsibilities."

China also recognizes Iran's peaceful nuclear energy program. Beijing and Moscow both urge settling differences diplomatically through dialogue.

From Tehran, Iranian lawmaker and National Security and Foreign Policy Commission parliament member, Avaz Heidarpour, said:

"We will not (agree to) have coordination with any country for taking our peaceful nuclear measures. Our activities are in accordance with the NPT rules, and we do not accept any (more) conditions and regulation beyond Iran's IAEA and NPT undertakings."

In March, Ayatollah Khamenei said:

"We do not possess a nuclear weapon and we will not build one, but we will defend ourselves against any aggression, whether by the US or the Zionist regime, with the same level of force."

On April 12, Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi's Washington Post op-ed headlined, "Iran: We do not want nuclear weapons," saying:

Decades ago, America "help(ed) Iran set up the full nuclear fuel cycle along with atomic power plants." At the time, Washington said "nuclear power would provide for the growing needs of our economy and free our remaining oil reserves for export or conversion to petrochemicals. That rationale has not changed."

After the 1979 Islamic Revolution, America ended fuel shipments. To secure them, Iran modified its operations to run on 20% enriched uranium. The same Tehran Research Reactor operates today. It supplies isotopes used for treating cancer patients.

In 2009, Iran requested the IAEA supply fuel. Local stockpiles were low. Lives were at stake. Tehran agreed to "exchange a major portion of our stock of low-enriched uranium...." In response, the Obama administration imposed more sanctions.

Iran acted responsibly, he stressed. Its scientists "managed to do something we had never done before: enrich uranium to the needed 20 percent and mold it into fuel plates for the reactor." Iran is capable of providing for its own needs.

At the same time, he, like other Tehran officials, expressed opposition to "weapons of mass destruction." In the 1980s, when Iraq attacked Iran with chemical arms, "we did not retaliate" the same way. Its nuclear program fully complies with NPT provisions. It has no "military dimension." No evidence suggests it.

He hoped Istanbul talks would resolve differences, end suspicions, and produce trust. He urged all sides to "make genuine efforts" to try.

At the same time, he knows what Iran faced for decades. Discussions for one or two days won't change things. One side can't resolve issues without a willing partner. Washington's hardline stance hasn't changed.

Nor has its quest to replace all independent states with client ones. At issue is unchallenged global dominance. Much more than diplomacy is needed to change that position. Istanbul won't budge it.

Galloway: ‘I’m better Pakistani than Hussain’

As a great shock to both pro-Israel British government and official Opposition – the maverick George Galloway returned to British parliament from Bradford West constituency by securing 56% majority. A great majority of Muslim residents of Bradford West (38%) voted for George Galloway against fellow Muslim Labour candidate Imran Hussain, a Pakistani Muslim Tom. In one of his speeches Galloway told his audience: “I am a better Pakistani than Hussain (the pro-war Labour candidate) will ever be”. Watch the video below.

The frustrated Israel lobby groups immediately called George Galloway; “a Jew hater”, a “secret Muslim” like Barack Obama, supporter of “terrorist groups”, such as Hamas and Hizbullah and “anti-British” for working with Iran’s Press TV.

Laura Staurt wrote in deLiberation (April 1, 2012) that whining by Zionist-controlled British media proves that George Galloway’s victory is “apparently not good for the pro-Israel Jews“.

“So the Zionist media and the pro-Israel blogs are spitting out endless bile and lies against George Galloway as to the reasons he might have won so descively in Bradford West, which can only mean one thing “George Galloway’s return to the House of Westminister in NOT GOOD FOR THE JEWS,” wrote Laura.

“George Galloway will hopefully be a strong voice against the war on Iran which Israel wants its proxies to fight for them. Enough war and enough pointless deaths – it’s time politicians concentrate in getting Britain back on its feet,” added Laura.

Iran-G5+1 Talks in Istanbul “Totally Different”

Local Editor

Are the Iran Nuclear Talks Finally Headed in the Right Direction?
Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (P5+1) wrapped up the first round of talks in Istanbul on Saturday.

Spokesman for EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton told reporters at the meeting in Istanbul that Iran's talks with six world powers are "positive" and "totally different" from the last failed attempt in January 2011. "There is a positive atmosphere ... contrasting with the last time," Michael Mann said. "The principles for future talks seem to be there."

He added that the US has requested bilateral meeting with Iran in Istanbul.
Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili with Turkish Foriegn Minister Ahmet Davudoglu in Istanbul; April 13, 2012
"The Americans are open to the idea of meeting the Iranians," AFP quoted one Western diplomat from a European country participating in the talks in Istanbul as saying.

"All countries have expressed interest for bilaterals," said Mann.

Iranian delegation, visiting Turkey since Friday morning, is headed by the Iran's top nuclear negotiator, Saeed Jalili, Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Counci.

Jalili met Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu Friday, and talks started on Iran’s nuclear file.

Turkey's foreign minister discussed latest bilateral relations and international affairs at the meeting.

During his visit to Istanbul, Jalili also met Ashton over dinner Friday night. Formal talks between both officials expected to get under way Saturday Morning, IRNA reported.

Iran's top nuclear negotiator Saeed Jalili and the European Union foreign policy Chief Catherine Ashton; April 13, 2012'We hope that this first round will produce a conducive environment for concrete results through a sustained process,' Mann said.

In the meantime, Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi and his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov stressed on diplomatic resolution of Iran’s nuclear issue at a joint media interaction after their meeting on Friday.

Lavrov said also that Moscow is optimistic about the outcome of the upcoming Iran-G5+1 talks.

Iran and the Group 5+1 agreed to resume talks in Istanbul, Turkey, on April 14 and a second round in the Iraqi capital city, Baghdad.

The last meeting between the two sides took place in Istanbul in January 2011. Iran and the G5+1 had also held two rounds of multifaceted talks in Geneva in December 2010.

Washington and its Western allies accuse Iran of trying to develop nuclear weapons under the cover of a civilian nuclear program, without presenting any compelling evidence. Iran denies the charges and insists its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes only.

How the New American Empire Really Works ..

Why the Wars Will Not End

Counterpunch.org - PAUL CRAIG ROBERTS

American Empire mapGreat empires, such as the Roman and British, were extractive. The empires succeeded, because the value of the resources and wealth extracted from conquered lands exceeded the value of conquest and governance. The reason Rome did not extend its empire east into Germany was not the military prowess of Germanic tribes but Rome’s calculation that the cost of conquest exceeded the value of extractable resources.

The Roman empire failed, because Romans exhausted manpower and resources in civil wars fighting amongst themselves for power. The British empire failed, because the British exhausted themselves fighting Germany in two world wars.

In his book, The Rule of Empires (2010), Timothy H. Parsons replaces the myth of the civilizing empire with the truth of the extractive empire. He describes the successes of the Romans, the Umayyad Caliphate, the Spanish in Peru, Napoleon in Italy, and the British in India and Kenya in extracting resources.

Parsons does not examine the American empire, but in his introduction to the book he wonders whether America’s empire is really an empire as the Americans don’t seem to get any extractive benefits from it. After eight years of war and attempted occupation of Iraq, all Washington has for its efforts is several trillion dollars of additional debt and no Iraqi oil. After ten years of trillion dollar struggle against the Taliban in Afghanistan, Washington has nothing to show for it except possibly some part of the drug trade that can be used to fund covert CIA operations.

American Empire mapAmerica’s wars are very expensive. Bush and Obama have doubled the national debt, and the American people have no benefits from it. No riches, no bread and circuses flow to Americans from Washington’s wars. So what is it all about?

The answer is that Washington’s empire extracts resources from the American people for the benefit of the few powerful interest groups that rule America. The military-security complex, Wall Street, agri-business and the Israel Lobby use the government to extract resources from Americans to serve their profits and power. The US Constitution has been extracted in the interests of the Security State, and Americans’ incomes have been redirected to the pockets of the 1 percent. That is how the American Empire functions.

US taxpayersThe New Empire is different. It happens without achieving conquest. The American military did not conquer Iraq and has been forced out politically by the government that Washington established. There is no victory in Afghanistan, and after a decade the American military does not control the country.

In the New Empire success at war no longer matters. The extraction takes place by being at war. Huge sums of American taxpayers’ money have flowed into the American armaments industries and huge amounts of power into Homeland Security. The American empire works by stripping Americans of wealth and liberty.

This is why the wars cannot end, or if one does end another starts. Remember when Obama came into office and was asked what the US mission was in Afghanistan? He replied that he did not know what the mission was and that the mission needed to be defined.

Obama never defined the mission. He renewed the Afghan war without telling us its purpose. Obama cannot tell Americans that the purpose of the war is to build the power and profit of the military/security complex at the expense of American citizens.

This truth doesn’t mean that the objects of American military aggression have escaped without cost. Large numbers of Muslims have been bombed and murdered and their economies and infrastructure ruined, but not in order to extract resources from them.

It is ironic that under the New Empire the citizens of the empire are extracted of their wealth and liberty in order to extract lives from the targeted foreign populations. Just like the bombed and murdered Muslims, the American people are victims of the American empire.

Pro-Palestinian “Flytillas” Arriving as Israel Prepared to Block Them

Local Editor

Hundreds of Israeli police, many undercover, gathered at Ben Gurion airport on Sunday to block the arrival of activists taking part in a "Welcome to Palestine" fly-in, AFP quoted the Israeli police as saying.

“We have stationed several hundred police in order to maintain order at the airport," Zionist police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld told the news agency.

Moreover, the Israeli public radio reported that at least 650 uncover police were deployed in and around the airport with orders “to exercise restraint, but to intercept any troublemakers.”

Organizers of the "flytilla" pro-Palestinian campaign, which is in its third year, had been expecting to welcome up to 1,500 people, more than a third of them from France. However, Israel has been preparing since last week to prevent their entry to the occupied territories.

AFP quoted Sunday organizers of the trip as saying that “a lot of people did manage to board planes and a lot of people have been denied."

"We are expecting 1,500 people from at least 15 countries… but most of them from Europe," campaign organizer Mazin Qumsiyeh said, indicating that they were aware of four carriers which had blocked passengers from travelling.

Also Sunday morning, the Israeli police said four passengers had been detained for questioning after disembarking from an El Al flight from Paris, with Rosenfeld clarifying that they were likely to be deported.

Israel Planning to Intercept Pro-Pal Activists at Ben Gurion Airport
Local Editor

The Israeli occupation authorities are mulling a plan to confront foreign activists who will arrive at Ben Gurion Airport on Sunday in solidarity with the Palestinians.

In order to prevent the coverage of this event through the media, a large Israeli contingent wearing civilian clothes will lay siege to the activists in order to prevent them from leaving the airport.

“Police are planning to intercept them at the airport and prevent their entry into the country. Hundreds of police officers are expected to be stationed at the airport ahead of their arrival, most of them unarmed and clothed in civilian dress”, Haaretz said.

In a similar development, dozens of pro-Palestinian activists were prevented from boarding Israel-bound flights on Friday, due to the fact that their names appeared on a blacklist distributed by the Israeli occupation government to a number of European airlines.

Last July, a similar “fly-in” took place, with over 300 international activists arriving in the Palestinian occupied territories, and 120 detained.

Pro-Palestinian activistA letter, obtained by Haaretz, was written by Amnon Shmueli of the Interior Ministry's Population and Immigration Authority to the airlines. The letter threatens punitive steps if the airlines fail to comply with Israeli demands. "A failure to uphold this directive is liable to lead to leveling of sanctions against the airlines."

"This is only a partial list, and additional lists will be sent subsequently. There is a high probability that the entry of additional activists will be prevented, whose names we cannot pass on ahead of time," the letter continues.

After receiving the letter, a number of European airlines, including the German airline Lufthansa, contacted activists whose names appeared on the list and notified them that their tickets had been cancelled and would be refunded.

Police expect between 500 and 1,000 activists will attempt to enter Israel from European countries as part of the solidarity action, called "Welcome to Palestine."

"It never crossed my mind that Israel could stop people with British passports leaving British airports," one of the activists, Norma Turner, told the Guardian.

Jet2.com said it was forced to inform Tel Aviv of the passengers’ names, nationalities, dates of birth and passport numbers.

Three major contenders out of Egypt presidential race

Salafist sheikh Hazem Salah Abu-Ismail, ex-intelligence chief Omar Suleiman and Muslim Brotherhood leading figure Khairat El-Shater have been ruled out of the presidential race along with seven others

The Supreme Presidential Electoral Commission (SPEC) disqualified on Saturday 10 contenders from Egypt’s anticipated presidential elections, including Salafist poster-child Hazem Salah Abu-Ismail, ex-intelligence chief Omar Suleiman and Muslim Brotherhood leading figure Khairat El-Shater.

The SPEC – a body of judges appointed by the ruling Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) – says it thoroughly checked all applicants’ files and looked into the complaints lodged against them before deciding their fate.

Sources from the SPEC told Ahram Online that Abu-Ismail was eliminated because evidence proved that his mother actually held US citizenship, while Suleiman’s recommendations did not fulfill some of the requisite requirements, including the term stipulating that recommendations from citizens must be gathered from 15 governorates.

El-Shater, the sources said, was declared ineligible to run for president because of his legal status, as the pardon he had earlier received from the SCAF was not acknowledged by the SPEC.
Farouk Sultan, head of the commission, said the disqualified presidential hopefuls can appeal against the decision within 48 hours.

Abu-Ismail, Suleiman and El-Shater have already announced their intention to appeal against the decision.

Abu-Ismail’s eligibility was brought into question after Egyptian and US authorities confirmed that his late mother held US citizenship. According to presidential eligibility regulations, candidates’ parents must not hold any nationality other than Egyptian.

The State Council administrative court returned Wednesday a verdict mandating that the Ministry of Interior hand Abu-Ismail an official document stipulating that the ministry cannot prove that his mother held a foreign nationality.

As Abu-Ismail’s supporters celebrated the ruling, legal experts stressed that it does not prove his mother did not have dual nationality.

To the same extent, Khairat El-Shater’s legal status is questionable, which was cited as a reason why the Brotherhood opted of late to field a second presidential candidate in Mohamed Mursi, the head of the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP).

In 2006, El-Shater was accused of money laundering and of funding the then-banned Brotherhood group. His case was referred to military prosecution, which sentenced him in 2008 to seven years in prison.

He was only released four years later, after the ouster of Hosni Mubarak in February 2011, for health considerations.

Suleiman, on the other hand, was already tipped to be declared ineligible due to problems related to his recommendations.

Earlier on Saturday, a source associated to Suleiman’s presidential campaign told Ahram Online earlier on Saturday that all “the rumours over his eligibility in joining the presidential race are entirely unfounded.”

Egypt’s Parliament Bans Suleiman from Presidential Candidacy
Speaking on condition of anonymity, the source responded to questions raised by sources close to the SPEC that around half of the registered recommendations that Suleiman turned in “are forged.”

The Disenfranchisement Law, which has been recently approved by the Parliament, was another reason why Suleiman was expected to be ruled out of the presidential race.

The law stipulates that those who were part of the former regime over the past 10 years would not be eligible to run for presidency. Suleiman and Mubarak’s last prime minister, Ahmed Shafiq, would both be eliminated should the law be enacted. So far, the SCAF has not ratified the law.

Secretary General of the SPEC, Tamer Bagato, was commissioned to inform the eliminated presidential hopefuls of their disqualifications. Ahram Online understands the 10 of them have officially learnt the news.

The other presidential hopefuls who have been ruled out of the race are acid-tongue lawyer Mortada Mansour, founder of the liberal Ghad Al-Thawra Party Ayman Nour, English teacher Ibrahim El-Gharib, former state director of antiquities in central Upper Egypt Ahmed Awad, ex-general intelligence officer Mamdouh Qutb, candidate of the Egypt Arab Socialist Party Hossam Khairat and Ashraf Barouma of the Egypt Kanana Party.

Nour was not found eligible considering that he has been in prison for criminal charges. The pardon he had earlier received by the SCAF was not acknowledged by the SPEC.
Mansour and Awad were ruled out over the ongoing legal battle between them as they are both seeking to head the National Egypt Party.

Barouma bowed out because he did not fulfill the mandatory military service, El-Gharib because his recommendations did not fulfill the compulsory requirements.

Qutb’s elimination came as a result of the resignation of the parliamentary commission of El-Hadara Party, which he represents.

Hossam Khairat was disqualified as the Socialist Arab Party does not have a legal representative.
Presidential elections will take place on 23 and 24 May, and the president will be named on 21 June after a runoff-voting round on 16 and 17 June.

Mel Gibson: ‘Beware of Jewish vengeance’

Famous Hollywood actor-director Mel Gibson is in Jewish boxing arena once again. However, this time Mel is being punched for Jewish Warner Bros. which has shelved Gibson’s movie about Jewish hero, Judah Maccabee under pressure from various angry Jewish groups.

After Warner Brothers announcement, Hungarian-born Joe Eszterhas, the Hollywood screenwriter, who spent more than a year working with Gibson on the movie project – wrote a nine-page letter to Mel Gibson charging him for hating Jews. Some of Gibson’s quotes about Jews are old history but others are claimed as Eszterhas’ utter fabrications by Mel Gibson.

According to The WRAP, Eszterhas delivered the script in late February. However, Warner production president Greg Silverman described it as lacking in “feeling” and “a sense of triumph”. But Eszterhas has claimed that Gibson never planned to make the movie, and was using him to deflect Gibson’s anti-Semitic reputation.

Gibson responded in a letter to Eszterhas, saying: “Both Warner Brothers and I were extraordinarily disappointed with the draft. In 25 years of script development I have never seen a more substandard first draft or a more significant waste of time. The decision not to proceed with you was based on the quality of your script, not on any other factor“.

Last year, Mel Gibson and Warner Bros. announced their plan to produce a movie based on the life of Jewish religious icon Judah Maccabee. It was Gibson’s way of pleasing his Jewish critics for producing controversial 2004 movie, The Passion of Christ, based on biblical story of Christ’s Crucification at the hands of Jews. However, Jewish leaders were in no mood to let Gibson anything to do with Judaism. Both Abraham Foxman of ADL and Rabbi Marvin Hier of Los Angeles’s Simon Wiesenthal Center Museum of Tolerance slammed Gibson for the planned movie.

Abraham Foxman, national director ADL in a statement issued on April 12 – called Mel Gibson “a serial offender, a serial hater, and a serial bigot”. He also speculated that Gibson’s anti-Jewish animus “was carefully taught” to him by his father, Hutton Gibson, a well-known Holocaust denier in his own right.
Mybe, Abe Foxman doesn’t like to admit that in 1990, the US Department of Justice had investigated Eszterhas’ father for authoring anti-Jewish propaganda in Hungary during 1930s and early 1940s.
In an interview by Andrew Goldman, published by the New York Times (February 2, 2012) – Eszterhas admitted that Gibson’s ‘The Passion of Christ‘ was not anti-Semitic and that he loved the movie.

Both Joe Eszterhas and Mel Gibson are Roman Catholic. Gibson has built a beautiful 17-acre church in the Agoura Hills. However, according to Zionist website, Adam Holland (July 14, 2010) - Agoura Hills’ former priest, Father Louis Cambell, also hates Jews. In one of his earlier sermons, Father Cambell had claimed that the Crucification of Christ was “the true Holocaust and one defining moment in human history, the Jewish Holocaust cannot be the unique event they claim to be.” Father Cambell, in the sermon, also slammed Pope John Paul II and the New Vatican for “accepting the myth of Holocaust, thus denying the uniqueness and efficacy of the sacrifice of Christ“.

A second step is to acknowledge that the international community's "dual track" policy of pressure and diplomacy toward Iran has in fact been mostly a single track of coercion, sanctions, covert war, and isolation -- with no clear, coherent, strategic vision of the kind of relationship the United States can ultimately accept with the Islamic Republic. There has not been a meaningful agenda of specific proposals for practical ways to build confidence through diplomacy.

The third requirement for progress is for the United States to guarantee Iran that if it answers all of the IAEA's outstanding questions, the United States, Israel, and others will not use this information to ratchet up sanctions or other forms of coercion against Iran..."

Arab World Must Reclaim The Palestinian Cause

Palestine remains at the heart of every Arab cultural and political meeting. The Palestinian cause underlines the greatest international armed violation of a land, carried out by Israel with the declared support of some major countries. Palestinians were expelled from their land. Their flag with its crescent was replaced with the Israeli flag and the Star of David. The Palestinian cause was placed at the mercy of the United Nations charters, which had declared the establishment of the usurper entity. With this step, the superpowers have embarked on the path of a policy of double standards, after having always declared and adopted high values and morals.

About this Article

Summary:
Arab Spring protests have grabbed the world's attention over the past year, but in a call to arms, Jaber Meslmani argues that the Palestinian question remains the central unresolved issue for the Arab world, which has been distracted by Arab tribal conflicts. 'Peace is not an option with Israel,' he warns, adding ominously, 'Do not drop your guns.'

There is no doubt that the Israeli entity is based on two equations that are essential to its sustainability and continuity. At one level, Israel enjoys international support, mainly the support of the US, which in turn had been established at the expense of another people whom it killed and displaced. Israel has always responded to the free world’s condemnation of its crimes by reminding it of the genocide [Israel’s people] had suffered at its hands.

At another level, the Arabs’ positions towards the Palestinian cause have constantly been weak and pathetic. Arab nations constitute political entities without any projects – whether domestic or international. Thus, the lack of a political project would lead to a static reaction.

Many have declared that the road to Palestine and Jerusalem will be soaked with blood. However, the bloodshed and the battle of guns have been diverted from the central goal of the Palestinian cause, the right of return.

The problem lies with the never-ending tribal rivalries and historical war among the Arabs themselves. The Arab-Israeli conflict has become an Arab-Arab conflict. The Palestinian cause has been entirely handed over to the White House. The US has the Arab nations in the palm of its hand.

The Arab political system has attracted and retained skilled negotiations with the Israeli enemy. This was the perfect way to hoodwink people. The signing of the Camp David Accords and Wadi Araba Treaty represented the perfect opportunity for Israel to come into the heart of the region and dismantle its political and economic pillars. The region entered the tunnel of cultural and political conflict over peace. The total liberation of Palestine has become an erstwhile case from the dim and distant past; even the charters of armed resistance have been dropped and cancelled at the hands of the Palestinians themselves.

Everything has collapsed. A blood-soaked struggle in an occupied land will never secure sovereignty and independence. Palestinians are either exiled or trapped in the prisons of the Israeli occupation. Palestinians remain witnesses to the Israeli atrocities and violations on their lands. Palestine has become a country without land, that can never be reached – another Israeli-international ploy added to the history of deceit of the Arabs.

The Lebanese resistance demonstrated the ability to liberate the land, following its outstanding victory. However, the Arab peace initiative was poorly timed. Arabs should have changed the equation in the region with the power of arms, along the lines of the Lebanese resistance model. Lebanon has made the impossible a reality. The Lebanese resistance’s militants achieved a great victory with meager economic and financial assets compared to all the Arab nation’s wealth and power. Money alone is not enough to establish glory and build a strong will. Glory comes with patience and struggle.

Rats desert a sinking ship, fools ride

Today, we stand in the midst of the Arab Spring. Islamic and non-Islamic forces came to power following the ouster of the authoritarian regimes. These forces are required to return the Palestinian cause to the forefront of the Arab discourse. If the Palestinian cause is no longer present, the Arab Spring will turn into a bleak autumn.

Jerusalem must be declared the capital of all Arabs and Muslims. Arabs and Muslims must reinstate their dignity on the Land of Palestine. Peace is not an option with Israel. Do not drop your guns.
