The Real Reasons For the Iran Agreement. Putting More Pressure on Russia

Obama is being praised as a man of peace for the nuclear agreement with Iran. Some are asking if Obama will take the next step and repair US-Russian relations and bring the Ukrainian imbroglio to an end?

If so he hasn’t told Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland or his nominee as Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Air Force General Paul Selva, or his nominee as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine General Joseph Dunford, or his Secretary of the Air Force, Deborah Lee James.

The other day on Ukrainian TV Victoria Nuland declared that if Russia does not “fulfill its obligations,” by which she means to turn all of Ukraine over to Washington including Crimea, a historical Russian province, “we’re prepared to put more pressure on Russia.” During the past week both of Obama’s nominees to the top military positions told the US Senate that Russia was the main threat to the US, an “existential threat” even. With this level of war rhetoric in play, clearly Obama has no interest in reducing the tensions that Washington has created with Russia.

In my last column I wrote that the agreement with Iran does not mean much, because Washington can renew the sanctions at any time merely by making false charges against Iran. Obama knows this even if Lindsey Graham and John McCain pretend that they don’t know it.

The US and its proxies continue to murder people over a large area of the earth. Clearly Obama is not a man of peace, and neither are his European enablers and the United Nations. So what is the reason for the accommodation with Iran after many years of rabid demonization of a country for no other reason than the country insisted on its rights to nuclear energy granted by the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty?

If you can free yourself from the brainwashing from the presstitute media, three BIG reasons jump out at you. One is that the neoconservatives’ perception of the threat has shifted from “Muslim terrorists” to Russia and China. Unlike Muslim terrorists, both Russia and China are constraints on Washington’s unilateralism. Since the collapse of the Soviet Union, Washington has grown accustomed to being the Uni-Power, able to exercise its will unchallenged in the world. The rise of Russian strength under Putin and Chinese strength under the new policy has destroyed Washington’s Uni-Power privilege. Washington wants the privilege back.

Washington is not in good shape, economically or militarily. According to Nobel Economist Joseph Stieglitz and Harvard University budget expert Linda Bilmes, Washington has wasted at least $6 trillion dollars in its 14-year old wars in the Middle East. Despite the extraordinary cost, Washington has been defeated, and is now faced with the Islamic State, a new entity arising out of Washington’s mistakes that is creating a new country partly out of Iraq and partly out of Syria.

Despite its gigantic hubris, Washington has figured out that the US cannot simultaneously take on Russia, China, Iran, and the Islamic State. This realization is one reason for the nuclear agreement with Iran. It removes Iran from the mix.

A second reason for the agreement is that Iran is opposed to the Islamic State and can be employed as an American proxy against the Islamic State, thus freeing Washington for conflict with Russia and China.

A third reason for Washington’s agreement with Iran is Washington’s concern with Europe’s energy dependence on Russia. This dependence is inconsistent with the EU going along with Washington’s sanctions against Russia and with NATO’s military moves against Russia. Washington wants to end this dependence and has hopes that money can bring Iran into becoming a supplier of natural gas and oil to Europe.

The explanation I have provided is realism, not cynicism. All that the agreement with Iran means is that Washington has belatedly realized that the concocted Iranian and Muslim threats are using up time, energy, and resources that Washington needs to apply to Russia and China. Moreover, there were too many threats for the American people to know which was paramount.

One of the reasons that Greece has to be destroyed is to block the entry of Russian natural gas into Europe from the Russian pipeline into Turkey.

Washington has US troops in Ukraine training the Ukrainian military how to subdue the break-away provinces, and the stooge Ukrainian government has taken no steps to comply with the Minsk Agreement. Clearly Washington intends that peace is not in the cards in Ukrainian-Russian relations.

At some point Russia will have to accept defeat or else stop contributing to its own defeat. On more than one occasion when the Russian break-away provinces had the Ukrainian military totally defeated, the Russian government intervened and prevented the collapse of the Ukrainian military. For its consideration, Russia has been rewarded with more demonization and with US aid to the Ukrainian military. When hostilities resume, which they will, Russia and the break-away Russian provinces will find themselves in a worsened position.

The Russian government cannot pursue peace when Washington is pursuing War.

Statement of Palestinian groups and individuals in the occupied homeland, refugee camps and the diaspora about the global war on Syria

We are Palestinians and Palestinian organizations that declare our solidarity with the Syrian people in their historic struggle for survival, now in its fifth year. We are in a unique position to understand and appreciate the challenges facing our Syrian brothers and sisters, because we face the same challenges.

We understand what it means to have our lands and our property taken by foreign usurpers. We understand what it means for millions of our people to be driven out of their homes and to be unable to return. We understand what it means for our interests and our national rights to become the plaything of the most powerful nations on earth. We understand what it means to suffer and die in defense of our sovereignty and human rights.

We do not pretend to tell Syrians what is right for Syria, just as Syria has respected the Palestinian right to liberate Palestine since the time of the Nakba. However, we declare that the enemies of Syria are the enemies of Palestine, and those who bear arms against the Syrian people and the Syrian army – regardless of their names and affiliations – are mere pawns that serve Israel and its project to divide and control the Arab region. The people who abduct, murder and slaughter in Syria are the enemies of the Arab nation, just like Israel, with which they share goals and criminal nature.

We therefore reject violence and murder against the people and state of Syria, which has nothing to do with any just demands; rather it merely seeks to destroy the Syrian state. Any attack on Syria is an attack on the Arab nation, and a true national opposition is one that commits to its country’s principles and flies its flag, and that doesn’t receive orders from abroad.

The Palestinian and Syrian struggles are not religious struggles. We respect a state that guarantees freedom of religion without preference for any faith over any other. Dividing Arab communities into conflicting sects only serves the Israeli regime and allows it to implement its plots for the region.

While Palestinian refugees have suffered and are suffering in many places, Syria has welcomed them and granted them all the rights of Syrians except the right to vote. We are grateful for this policy of brotherhood/sisterhood and can do no less than to reciprocate with our solidarity for Syria in its time of greatest need. It is the least we can do.

The cynical and genocidal policies of NATO and its proxies in the Middle East have as their main policy to destroy the last remaining independent nations and forces that are not compromised by complicity with Zionist and imperialist forces. These nations and forces wish no harm to others, yet their mere existence is intolerable to Zionism and imperialism. It is our duty to stand with Syria and all nations and movements that resist the intruders and seek an independent course and policy for the benefit and interest of our own people and not to become puppets of foreign powers.

We therefore stand with Syria in its efforts to repel the foreign invaders and the countries that are creating, training, financing, arming and supporting the terrorist groups in Syria. We call for the expulsion of these groups back to their own countries, and for their supporters to devote their resources to improving the lives of their own citizens in their own countries rather than destroying the lives of our citizens in our countries. Like the alien and racist Zionist regime, these criminal countries and their leadership must be prosecuted for war crimes and crimes against humanity for waging illegal wars against sovereign states and peoples, including Palestine, Libya, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Yemen.

UN Security Council approves Iran-P5+1 plan of action

The UN Security Council (UNSC) has unanimously endorsed a draft resolution that would turn into international law the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) reached between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries over the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program.

All 15 members of the UNSC voted for the draft UN resolution in New York on Monday, setting the stage for the lifting of Security Council sanctions against Iran.

"The draft resolution has been adopted unanimously," announced New Zealand ambassador Gerard van Bohemen, whose country holds the current presidency of the UN Security Council.

The text of the draft UN resolution calls for the “full implementation” of the Vienna agreement “on the timetable established,” and urges UN member countries to facilitate the process.

Iran and the P5+1 finalized the text of the JCPOA in the Austrian capital city of Vienna on July 14 after 18 days of intense negotiations and all-nighters that capped around 23 months of talks between Iran and the P5+1 – the United States, Britain, France, China and Russia plus Germany.

A vote for the sake of voting

The resolution will officially endorse the JCPOA, under which limits are put on Iran’s nuclear activities in exchange for a set of commitments by the P5+1, including the removal of all economic and financial bans against the Islamic Republic.

The UNSC vote is generally considered a formality, as all the five permanent members of the Council were partners to the negotiations with Iran and the JCPOA.

A moot mechanism

American officials have insisted on a mechanism for the so-called snapback of sanctions against Iran in case of Iranian noncompliance.

Based on the “snapback” mechanism, any single one of the six countries in the P5+1 can raise what it considers a breach of the JCPOA. The issue will then be taken up by a Joint Commission, which would assess the allegations in a period of 15 days. If its ruling fails to resolve the issue, the US or Iran can take the matter to an Advisory Board, which has another 15 days to issue a “non-binding opinion.” The Joint Commission will then have five days to consider the Advisory Board’s opinion, which makes the entire process as long as 35 days.

“If the resolution described… has not been adopted within 30 days of the notification [of the Joint Commission], then the provisions of the old U.N. Security Council resolutions would be re-imposed…”

This process cannot be interrupted except by a majority vote in the Security Council. Any of the five permanent members can, however, use its veto power to ensure that the sanctions resume.

Iranian officials have voiced opposition to the above mechanism.

Scott Bennet, a former US army psychological warfare officer and counter-terrorism analyst, told Press TV in an exclusive interview on Monday that the mechanism could be easily manipulated by certain countries in the P5+1 group.

He said that part of the agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group should guarantee that there would be no manipulation of the text into a “crisis situation where a certain party or a certain country can cry wolf and claim that there is some small infraction… and trigger a domino effect.”

“To avoid that, there needs to be an agreement that countries can evaluate infractions before any sort of a vote or decision can be made to determine if there even has been any infraction,” the Bennet said.

Also speaking to Press TV, Mohammad Taghi Hosseini, an expert in international affairs in Tehran, also told Press TV that it is not "to the benefit of the United States or to the benefit of any other party" to have the previous resolutions automatically re-imposed again "because there is a mechanism for it and the mechanism is not automatic."

"So I do not believe that any wise politician, any wise decision maker would be in favor to break everything and also again going to the previous situation and re-imposing sanctions on Iran," he said.

Netanyahu, his usual self

Meanwhile, hawkish Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu once again angrily reacted to the agreement between Iran and the P5+1.

In an interview with CBS on Sunday, he repeated his hackneyed mantra. “I think this is a very bad deal… It’s not good for anyone’s security.”

Even American officials have dismissed Netanyahu’s repetitive remarks about the JCPOA, sparing less and less attention to the comments as time goes by.

I have carefully read every word of your statement against Alison Weir. Thank you for making it very clear that you label any supposed or alleged attack on Jews as "anti-Semitic." This is an ancient argument and you are renewing it. I noticed that you seldom attempted to prove with a factual rebuttal that the supposed attacks on Jews were false. Let's face it you are reinforcing the idea that somehow that Jews presently and throughout history are immune to criticism as if somehow Jews have no responsibility at all for their persecution.
You have gone to great links to prove how unworthy Alison Weir is and as I continued to read your extended diatribe against her I felt your desperation to be thoroughly convincing that she is a racist. The more I read the more I was convinced of your desperation. You failed miserably to discredit Alison Weir. You could have kept you mouth shut and continued with your good work for a Free Palestine. You have done nothing but open a sordid side of U. S. Campaign.

I am very disappointed that The U. S. Campaign to End the Occupation of Palestine has sunk to this level. But again, thank you for clarifying who you really are.

By the way, who did your research for this multiple page castigation of Alison Weir? (Click on Statement below to read) I cannot believe that Ana Baltzer or Josh Ruebner would participate in this witch hunt. Did members of your staff spend this much time turning over every stone to discredit a fellow patriot in solidarity with the Palestinian plight. If they did, shame on them for being distracted from your mission to End the Occupation of Palestine. If members of your staff did not do the pains-taking research, then who did? Did you hire a representative or an attorney and if so, did you pay them? If you did, I resent that my dues and donations to your organization were used for this inquisition. IDLIB: It’s become a bit of a joke. The statistics are horrendous for the terrorist psychopathic Islamist thug-monkeys, but, the prostituted Western and Eastern Press continue to hammer out hilarious reports of various advances which simply could not have taken place. The Syrian Army has absorbed new tactics, and even more significantly, more domestically-manufactured rockets with newly engineered guidance systems the rodents have not seen before. This has made targeting the rodents much more effective as they continue to hide inside heavily populated areas.

JAYSH AL-FATH MASSACRED AT ABU DHUHOOR AIRBASE. 12 PICKUP TRUCKS WITH 23MM CANNONS TURNED INTO PILES OF MOLTEN STEEL. AN ANNIHILATION MENTIONED FREQUENTLY IN ALEPPO BY HUDDLED RATS ANXIOUSLY AWAITING THE MERCIFUL STING OF OUR RIFLES.

This is the 30th time the rats have tried to invade the perimeter of the airbase, one of Syria’s most important, only because it lies on an axis which enables the SAAF to use fuel much more efficiently. If the base were to fall, all that would mean is that Syria would require more fuel than is usually necessary. This, also, is not a big deal as Russia, Venezuela and Iran are prepared to provide these necessary constituents of air power.

Yesterday, starting at around 3:00 a.m., the rodents, after equipping 2 Scania and 1 Mercedes trucks with a massive amount of C-4, military grade TNT, gasoline and multiple detonators which could be engaged by the driver or by remote control, approached from the northwest. The problem with the plan was that the area is very flat and SAA drones regularly fly over Jaysh Al-Fath positions. Our observers have become very adept at reading the terrain – they can spot a truck being readied to carry legitimate products and those which carry explosives. We even have night vision cameras now, thanks to the Russian Federation, so our observers can spot danger even in the dark.

And so, based on intercepted communications, 3 drivers, one from Pakistan and another 2 from Saudi Arabia, were given their last rat-rites and promised a place in heaven filled with 72 Virginians. And off they went. According to my source in Latakia, based on what he read, an entire platoon of Special Forces Kornet and Milan operators were deployed at previously dug defensive trenches. They were told about the most likely routes to be followed by the suicidal degenerates. When the trucks appeared within range of the Kornets and Milans, the rockets took off, their invisible guidance, fiber-optics tails, acting like a telescope for the eyeball at the nose, as the hawkeyed SF rangers directed the projectiles precisely to their targets. The explosions rocked the nearby eponymous village and could be heard as far as the border of Aleppo province. The drivers were nebulized, their stink, collected over months of festering, becoming nothing more than an offense of the past.

Once again, the rodents, convinced they are going to some amusement park in Infinity, charged the perimeter of the base despite the obvious fiasco engineered by imbeciles from Britain operating out of Adana, and found themselves in the middle of a meat grinder. SAA artillery and rocket launchers sprayed the area with so much ordnance, the rats almost immediately turned around to escape, their communications described by the SAA as “frantic”, “anarchic” and “terror-filled”. Amazingly, their field commanders told them to “stay put and fight their way forward”. They knew better than that and kept running away like the miserable cowards they always were.

According to some sources, Jaysh Al-Fath executed some of the officers for not obeying orders and refusing to die kami-kaze-style. Banzai!! Tora! Tora! Tora!

But, that’s not all. According to Wael, the SAAF took off from the base to the south and circled around firing air-to-rat missiles, hitting moving vans and pickups with uncanny accuracy. When the dust finally settled, observers on the ground could count 12 pickups destroyed, smoke wafting up from the crevices of the engine compartments and carcasses spread around them roasting slowly like Texan briskets. A total of 173 rats either killed or wounded in the fighting.

Umm Jareen: Another tale of woe for Nusra/Alqaeda rodents. MI alerted SAA infantry to the movement of rats in their direction. The rats were aboard several flatbed trucks with 2 pickups armed with the usual Doschkas for protection. The SAAF took to the air and quickly scotched the caravan as the SAA infantry pounced upon them killing a confirmed 17 and wounding scores. Almost all were foreigners. These were the only Syrians among the vermin:

JISR AL-SHUGHOOR AREA: Reports continue to come in indicating the newly-arrived volunteer forces from Iran are becoming increasingly hep to the terrain and the roadways so important for effective fighting. At the villages of Bizayt, Jannat Al-Quraa, Tu’oom, the Syrian Air Force pounded concentrations of rodents belonging to both Alqaeda and Harakat Ahraar Al-Shaam Al-Islamiyya. Their efforts to build up fortifications in anticipation of the SAA’s major push to liberate Jisr Al-Shughoor are being watched with peculiar obsessiveness. Great news, too: the highway between Aleppo and JIsr Al-Shughoor remains completely open. The rats failed in closing it.

Ma’arrat-Massreen: A large pack of vultures belonging to Nusra/Alqaeda which had planned to attack neighboring Al-Faw’ah Village were torn to shreds by SAAF Sukhoi bombers.

Republican presidential hopeful Scott Walker says the conclusion of Iran’s nuclear talks is bad for Israel and he would call the agreement off should he become US president.

In an interview with CNN on Sunday, the Wisconsin governor described the July 14 agreement between Tehran and the six world powers as a “bad deal.”

“It’s a bad deal for us, it’s a bad deal for Israel, it’s a bad deal for the world,” Walker said.

“It’s not just the starting gun, it will accelerate the nuclear arms race,” he continued.

The presidential candidate said he would impose economic sanctions against Iran again after he won the White House.

“The US putting sanctions would have an impact on others, so they’d have to consider what impact it would have on relations that they do with Iran and the impact it would have on their own economy,” he said.

Washington and its five negotiating partners concluded the nuclear negotiations with Iran in Vienna on July 14.

Iran sanctions are set to be removed in exchange for some limitations on the country’s nuclear energy program.

On Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the agreement is “the dream deal” for the Islamic Republic.

The conclusion of the talks is "not only important to us, I think it’s important for the entire world,” Netanyahu told CBS.

US Secretary of State John Kerry criticized Netanyahu’s remarks about the agreement and said a better conclusion is nothing but “fantasy.”

“There’s a lot of fantasy out there about this – quote – ‘better deal.’ The fact is we spent four years putting together an agreement that had the consent of Russia, China, France, Germany, Great Britain and Iran. That is not easy,” Kerry said.

Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution of Iran Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran Grand Ayatollah Sayyed Ali Khamenei stressed on Saturday that Iran's foreign policy towards the "arrogant US administration will not change" and won't be affected by the latest nuclear deal.

"We always reiterated that there will not be negotiations with the Americans in many issues of the region. US policies differ from Iran's 180 degrees," Ayatollah Khamenei said during his speech on Eid al-Fitr.

"The US considers the resistance and Hezbollah in Lebanon - who are sacrificing everything they have to defend their country - as terrorists, which is unfair, while gives its support for the Israeli entity which kills the children. We cannot agree with the party who pursues such policy," his eminence stressed.

After leading Eid prayers at the Imam Khomeini's shrine in Tehran, Sayyed Khamenei made it clear that the nuclear deal won't alter Iran's support for regional allies.

"Signing the nuclear deal will not alter our support for our regional friends. The oppressed Palestinian people, the oppressed Yemeni people, the people and government of Syria. the people and government of Iraq, and the Mujahedeen in Lebanon and Palestine will always get our support."
Imam Khamenei reiterated that the Islamic Republic will never hesitate to protect its interests, and will never give up in front of the enemies' ambitions.

"We will never allow that the text of the [nuclear] deal be abused. We will not allow anyone to breach the basic principles of the Islamic Republic," his eminence stressed, highlighting that - God willing - the Iranian security and defense capabilities will be protected.

Sayyed Khamenei, moreover, hailed efforts by the Iranian President Sheikh Hassan Rouhani and the negotiating team during Vienna talks, stating that there is still constitutional mechanism through which the terms of the deal must pass in order to be endorsed in Iran.

"We expect that [Iranian] officials will present what can make the people proud of them," his eminence said.

Regarding the latest US claims following the deal with the P5+1 group, Imam Khamenei stressed that the nuclear weapons in Iran is not related to the negotiations with the US or any other country, but the Sharia (Islamic law) forbids the possession and use of nuclear weapons.

"They [the Americans] know this fact and admitted it. They know Iran is not prevented by threats and but by religion, even though they claim they have led Iran go to negotiations."

Several US officials have made claims during the last days that the Administration has forced Iran to give up and sit to the negotiation table.

"They are not honest with their people. Iran will give up in their dreams only. It is a US dream which will never come true," Sayyed Khamenei said.

Addressing the US mistakes in the region, Imam Khamenei stated the US President Barack Obama has only admitted a small part of them in his last speech, and failed to mention the 25-year support for the former criminal Bahlavi regime in Iran and for the Zionist regime against regional states, in addition to targeting the Iranian aircraft in the Persian Gulf by a US missile.

His eminence advised the US administration to wake up and know the truth, stressing that the Islamic Republic is powerful and its power will increase day after another.

"Although we do not welcome any war, but if it happens, the criminal and aggressor US will come out of it defeated."

Sayyed Khamenei also congratulated the Iranian people and the Muslim world on Eid al-Fitr.
Iran has always denied seeking an atomic weapon, insisting its nuclear program is for peaceful energy and medical purposes only.
