Syrian Peace Will Be Decided on the Battlefield, Not in Vienna

By Tony Cartalucci
The much lauded “peace deal” regarding Syria upon even a cursory examination reveals nothing more than the reiteration of Western demands versus a reassertion of Syrian defiance.
The West seeks a “political transition” in addition to fighting the self-proclaimed “Islamic State,” implying that indeed, just as it had sought since 2011 and even beforehand, the West still expects current Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down, and a client regime more to the West’s liking installed in his place.
And while the West, as part of the “peace deal” claims to seek the end of the Islamic State, it makes no mention of the states sponsoring its existence, which coincidentally includes the West itself.
Syria seeks the eradication of all armed groups, even those the West still attempts to claim are not linked to Al Qaeda. It has agreed to elections, confident the Syrian people will return President Assad to power again, just as they did in 2014. Knowing that President Assad would easily win any election held in the future, the West has been adamant about removing him from the process to even the odds in favor of candidates they back, thus undermining the very premise that the uprising had anything to do with “democracy” or heeding the will of the Syrian people in the first place.
The “peace deal,” despite optimistic headlines across the West about “unanimous agreement” among nations, is exposed as yet another attempt for the West to reassert its narrative regarding the Syrian conflict upon the global stage.
In reality, the “peace deal” is no deal at all. What is left is the same battle that has been waged since 2011, and it is upon the battlefield that Syria’s fate will be truly decided.
Peace Only After War
The West, and the United States in particular, has attempted to take on a more conciliatory tone as of late. And despite actually not really saying so, US Secretary of State John Kerry attempted to impress upon the world that “regime change” was no longer in the cards. Of course, such statements are still followed by US expectations that President Assad will step down. But even as the US strikes this new tone, its regional partners, and more specifically, Turkey, Israel, and Saudi Arabia, have increased provocations against both Syria and Russia in attempts to widen a war that is now winding down in favor of Damascus.
Turkey attempted to trigger a wider conflict with Russia by ambushing a Russian warplane, evidently with both US approval and assistance. Israel has continued attempting to provoke Syria into war, by striking targets in and around Damascus itself. Saudi Arabia had recently hosted militant groups operating in Syria, to meet in Riyadh. Many of these groups are direct affiliates of Al Qaeda.
So even as the US claims for its part of the “peace deal” it seeks to fight terrorism in Syria, its oldest and stanchest ally in the region is hosting the leaders of various terrorist groups, colluding over how to continue the fight more effectively.
It is clear that the only “peace” that will be had will be when Syria and its allies militarily defeat the West’s proxies on the battlefield and check direct military intervention by the West with an increasing range of military deterrents either sold to the Syrian military, or brought in and operated by Russian forces already on the battlefield.
West’s Losing War Compels Disingenuous Political Bargaining
As Syrian troops backed by Russian airpower move ever closer to the Turkish border in the north, thus cutting the lifelines feeding terrorists operating inside of Syria, and as Syrian forces cut off the Syrian-Jordanian border, the end of the war draws nearer.
The West has reacted with a wide range of responses. It has attempted to escalate the conflict, and also negotiate an end to it, attempting to leverage what remaining influence it has over the battle via its dwindling proxy forces and the treat of direct military intervention. It has also attempted to begin the covert invasion and occupation of territory both in Syria and Iraq in a bid to fracture both nations irreparably before the inevitable end of the war.
“Peace talks” are aimed only at further buying time and attempting to leverage favorable outcomes before their remaining bargaining chips are swept from the field of battle. In other words, it is yet another distraction laid out to derail Syrian-Russian efforts to restore order to Syria and preserve Syria as a functioning nation-state.
Staying Focused
For Syria and its allies, remaining focused is the key to truly ending the conflict. The United States has already proven infinitely treacherous. It was under the cover of feigned rapprochement by the US with Syria that the 2011 conflict was prepared and launched. It was under the guise of feigned cooperation in Syria’s airspace with Russia that the US aided and abetted Turkey in the ambush and downing of one of Russia’s warplanes.
It stands to reason any “peace deal” not reached by physical force and political leverage being entirely in Syria and Russia’s favor, will likewise be betrayed. Syria and Russia must maintain the appearance of being “diplomatic,” but must also remain entirely realist about the enemy they are fighting, and the true motivations, intentions, and future ambitions that drove this conflict in the first place. Peace was never part of the West’s plan, and so peace cannot be part of Syria and its allies’ solution.
Fully defeating the West’s proxies on the battlefield, securing Syria’s borders, and creating a military deterrence to prevent direct Western military intervention – which includes further incursions into Syrian and Iraqi territory by Turkey, Israel, or any other Western proxy in the region, are the only conditions from which any “peace deal” can then be struck with the West.

Syrian Army units, in cooperation with popular defense groups, established control over al-Rabea’a town and al-Rawda village, about 60km northeastern countryside of Lattakia, a military source told SANA reporters on the battlefield.
The source added that the engineering units are combing the area and dismantling the explosive devices and landmines planted by the terrorists, some of them were killed and injured by the army operation, who fled towards Turkey.

In the same context, army units established control over the villages of Katar and Tal Hattabat in the eastern countryside of Aleppo province.
A field source noted in a statement to SANA that the units took control of the aforementioned areas after fierce clashes with ISIS terrorists, during which a number of their fortifications and barricades were destroyed and dozens of them were killed, while the others fled.
Military engineering units later swept the two villages and dismantled the explosive devices and mines left behind by the terrorists, the source said.

SAUDI CHIEF CLERIC PROHIBITS CHESS PLAYING; QUACK EXTOLS IGNORANCE
The Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, Al-Shaykh ‘Abdul-‘Azeez bin ‘Abdullah Al-Shaykh, pronounced the playing of chess to be “haraam” or prohibited in Islam. The cleric issued a fatwaa which formalized Wahhaabism’s rejection of the game of chess which Arabs proudly consider to be a part of their culture, after all, the word “checkmate” in English is from the Arabic “Shaykh Maat” (the shaykh is dead). And, in that regard, we, too, wish this so-called Mufti, this shaykh, a quick and painful death. According to this quack, it is a waste of time to play chess. It is tantamount to gambling and inevitably causes the competitors to develop hostility to one another. Can anyone believe this?
He has allowed the marriage of girls under 15 years of age. He has issued fatwas calling on all good Wahhabis to destroy churches. A true pillar of tolerance and love, he has suggested the extermination of Shi’is and their progeny, the Alawis, Druze, Zaydis and Ismailis.
His religious disinterest in dental hygiene is best depicted by a full photo of his upper front teeth. With gums so infected with fly and rat droppings, it is almost miraculous that he even can show his ivories. We have heard it said that the Mufti demanded that his dentures be made to look as though his teeth were rotting so his followers wouldn’t think he was an hypocrite. Only the finest dental technicians in Germany were able to recreate that unique appearance of teeth so fouled by decades of sucking on used sandals, sniffing around ladies’ tents………..chewing on his own elbow or biting into used toilet brushes, that it’s a wonder how his formidable immunity to filth kept him alive.
The institution of the mufti in Islam is a venerable one. Most muftis actually come across as intelligent and well versed in all matters literary, jurisprudential and exegetical. The word mufti is a noun derived from the root, fa-ta-wa, specifically from the 4th Form Verb, aftaa/yuftee – to issue a religious decree or opinion. To reach this level of authority, you have to have credentials which are acquired over a span of a lifetime during which you gain the respect of your peers and garner the interest of the ruling classes of the land. Like the Shi’ite “Marji’”, the mufti is looked to for guidance when a religious question arises. During Ottoman times, the sultans looked to their “shaykhulislam” for religious opinions. Catholics, like Muslims, often seek the good counsel of their priest who may contact the Vatican to see how to approach a particular religious inquiry.
The office of the mufti in Arabia, however, is something completely different. It is essentially a mating of vultures who have educations which would qualify them as “illiterate”, “crude”, “educable” and “mildly retarded”. If a Saudi mufti were applying for Social Security Disability Benefits, he would find the evidentiary threshold quite easy since it would be improbable for any Administrative Law Judge not to recognize the active disease which prevents Wahhabis from muttering anything comprehensible or uttering one grammatical sentence. Once you have accepted Wahhabism, it is almost the same as becoming a “devout” Evangelical or Pentecostal – which begs the question as to whether Ted Cruz isn’t on Social Security. It is a wasting disease. It has no cure but the Grim Reaper.
There is talk about a revolt in Saudi Arabia against the ruling Wahhabist savages. If the insurgents are looking for a good reason to put that stinking House of Saud to death, let them look to the chess board. Let them look at the opprobrium and shame they have brought to the great religion of Islam. Good grief! Isn’t there one Muslim out there who is willing to denounce this cult of ignorance? ZAF

Netanyahu Supports Settlers’ Takeover of Palestinian Homes ’at any Time’
Local Editor
Netanyahu heads a coalition with only a one-seat majority in parliament, making him especially vulnerable to the demands of religious nationalists in his cabinet regarding settlements, which much of the international community opposes.
His comments on Sunday came at a time of sharp criticism internationally on Zionist settlement activity in the West Bank, including from the United States and European Union.
"The government supports settlement at any time, especially now when it is under terrorist assault and is taking a courageous and determined stand in the face of terrorist attacks," Netanyahu said at the start of a cabinet meeting, according to his office.
On Friday, Zionist security forces evicted dozens of Jewish settlers from two homes in the heart of the West Bank city of Hebron a day after they occupied them. Their arrival had sparked clashes with Palestinians.
Al-Khalil is a flashpoint in the Zionist-Palestinian conflict, with several hundred Jewish settlers living in the heart of the city under heavy military guard among around 200,000 Palestinians.
Zionist Defense Minister Moshe Yaalon said the Jewish "squatters" were evicted because they had not followed legal procedures.
But Netanyahu said Sunday that "as soon as the procedures regarding the purchase are approved, we will allow the two homes in Hebron (Jewish name of Al-Khalil) to be populated, as indeed occurred in similar instances in the past."
"The process of checking is starting today," he said at the cabinet meeting. "We will do it as quickly as possible. If, in any case, it is not completed within a week, I will see to it that the cabinet receives a status report."
Criticizing the evictions, three right-wing members of Netanyahu's coalition had threatened to not vote with the government over the issue.
The Zionist settlements in the West Bank are considered illegal under international law and major stumbling blocks to peace efforts since they take up land Palestinians see as part of their future state.

AL-RUBAY’AH LIBERATED; CHECHEN RATS TRAPPED WITH NOWHERE TO HIDE; ARMY ADVANCING EVERYWHERE

LATAKIA: Only 12 hours ago, the Syrian Army was able to establish complete, unchallenged control over the crucial town of Al-Rubay’ah. This town was the second most important locale for terrorist infestation. It contained a fairly high quality logistical center operated by Turk MIT vultures under direct control of that agency’s rodent director, Hakan Fidan, whom we predict will soon be dangling by the neck from a piano wire in Ankara. The town contained a multitude of warehouses and underground storage facilities for weapons appropriate for Islamist terrorist vermin. It was the center for terrorist control over the Jabal Al-Turkmaan region. It also contained several training bases all of which have been turned into a fine powder by the Russian and Syrian air forces.
As of 12 hours ago, terrorists, almost all Chechens, Daghestaanis, Uzbekis and other assorted trash from the bowels of Asia, were observed heading for Elevations 1154 and 1112 and Kinsibba, the only rat-held village left for them and which is directly in the cross hairs of the Syrian Army. In point of fact, we urge these rodents from the Caucasus to engage the services of a cleric to offer them the Islamic equivalent of extreme unction as I have been told that the Syrian militias are intent upon exterminating them to a rat. It was very painful for many of our soldiers to enter Al-Rubay’ah and see the kinds of graffiti these monsters sprayed on the walls of homes, one graffito warning the Alawis of their imminent genocide.
During the last 24 hours, the Syrian Army and Popular Defense Committees liberated 18 towns and villages in an area spanning 120 square kilometers. The army has also been extremely farsighted in its planning by deploying special forces around all areas liberated in order to insure the terrorists not be able to escape the destiny which has been plotted for them. As I write, spotters are directing aerial strikes on convoys of Chechen vultures trying to elude fate – a fate nestled in the thousands of bullets and missiles bearing the names of the fleeing vermin.

Jabal Al-Turkmaan is now rat free. As soon as our positions have been secured, the army will descend like the wolf on the fold into Idlib.

(Thanks, Khaled again)

(Thanks, Hans)
Note to readers: Tal Al-Hattaabaat and Qatr have also been liberated in Aleppo as reported by Canthama.

The Netanyahu Gang: They Never Seem to Get Tired of Rubbing America’s Nose in the Dirt

Thursday, in Davos, Switzerland, Benjamin Netanyahu issued what essentially amounted to a demand that America increase the amount of its annual assistance to the Jewish state, this in a statement he made at the World Economic Forum. The Israeli prime minister said the increase is necessary because of the Iran deal.
“We’re talking about a bigger package”–necessary, he said, in order to “resist Iranian aggression in the region.” (see link below)
http://www.news24.com/World/News/netanyahu-israel-needs-more-aid-after-iran-deal-20160121
Netanyahu’s comments came just one day after a former aid of his offered up a scathing remark about U.S. Ambassador to Israel Daniel Shapiro. It would seem that no criticism of Israel can ever be tolerated from any US official, apparently even if the official is Jewish.
“Too many attacks on Palestinians lack a vigorous investigation or response by Israeli authorities, too much vigilantism goes unchecked,” Shapiro had remarked earlier in the week. “As Israel’s devoted friend and its most stalwart partner, we believe that Israel must develop stronger and more credible responses to questions about the rule of law in the West Bank.”
But Shapiro, for his trouble, promptly had his nose rubbed in the dirt. In an appearance on Israeli TV on Wednesday, Aviv Bushinsky, a former political aid to Netanyahu, by way of response called Shapiro a “little Jew boy.” (see link below)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/daniel-shapiro-aviv-bushinsky_us_569fa497e4b0875553c26b9e?ir=WorldPost§ion=us_world
This of course is not the first time prominent Israelis have insulted US officials. There have been other instances (see here and here ).
Nevertheless, it seems that a US delegation will travel to Israel next week to discuss the new aid package.
Is the relationship between Israel and the US comparable to that between a parasite and its host? Some have drawn that analogy, and my own personal view is that it’s probably a valid one. If we look at the “special relationship” from that perspective, however, we might stretch the metaphor a bit further by saying that not only is the parasite feeding off the host’s blood, but is hurling insults at it as it does so.
The longer Americans go on putting up with insults and affronts of this type–from what is supposedly a “client state”–the more we become the laughing stocks of the world.
