US fights ISIS…while aiding ISIS

As the war against the Islamic State (ISIS/ISIL) rages on, the US has stepped up its air campaign, combining destructive bombs with anti-ISIS leaflets.
But while US propaganda efforts are ostensibly aimed at disrupting ISIS recruitment, overall US involvement has yielded mixed results at best.
On the one hand, Washington is engaging in a psychological campaign designed to dissuade potential ISIS fighters from joining up, with leaflets depicting grisly images of young men being sent into a meat grinder. On the other hand however, the US continues to exacerbate the situation in both Iraq and Syria by providing material support, both directly and indirectly, to the very groups whom they claim to be fighting.
While the US seems to be engaged in a psychological war against ISIS, it is equally involved in a systematic campaign of sabotage against those forces that are actually fighting ISIS on the ground. And so, as it often does, Washington is playing both sides of the conflict in order to achieve an outcome to its own political advantage, and to the detriment of Syria, Iran, and other interested parties.
Since the emergence of ISIS on the world stage, much has been made of the organization’s ability to recruit fighters, produce propaganda, and effectively get its message across to the young Muslims around the world. There have been countlessnews stories of Muslim youths from the West eagerly joining up to fight in far flung war zones like Syria and Iraq, seemingly translating their disaffection with their own lives into an ideological identification with ISIS extremism.
But beneath the surface of such ideological explanations is the fact, publicly acknowledged by many counter-terrorism experts, that ISIS propaganda, coupled with the financial benefits the organization offers, is responsible for some of the allure of joining the fight. And so, the US has launched a full scale psychological war for the“hearts and minds” of these naïve youths and poverty-stricken potential fighters.
The Pentagon confirmed that they had dropped tens of thousands of leaflets on the Syrian city of Raqqa in an attempt to dissuade potential recruits from joining ISIS. While this may seem a relatively harmless exercise in counter-propaganda, the reality is that it is at best a poorly conceived, and at worst utterly disingenuous, attempt to counteract ISIS recruitment. Were the US serious about eradicating the cancer of ISIS in Syria, US military officials would be coordinating with their Syrian counterparts in a comprehensive attempt to destroy the organization. For while the US Air Force drops leaflets, the Syrian Arab Army has been fighting ISIS on the ground for nearly three years, paying a very high price in blood to protect its country from the internationally constituted terror organization.
US military planners understand perfectly that it is the Syrian military, not slick propaganda leaflets, which will carry the day in the war against ISIS in Syria. While perhaps useful for the public relations campaign back home, such leaflets will do little to change the tactical or strategic situation on the ground. The same goes for therecently announced expansion of the Center for Strategic Counterterrorism Communications, the State Department’s attempt at “counter-messaging” ISIS propaganda on social media and in cyberspace generally.
But, while the US presents itself as pursuing a comprehensive psychological war against ISIS, its military and covert actions tell a far different story.
The media has been abuzz in recent months with numerous accounts of US weapons and other supplies falling directly into the hands of ISIS, providing the terror group with invaluable material support at a time when it had suffered heavy losses in both Syria and Iraq. As Naeem al-Uboudi, the spokesman for one of the main groups fighting ISIS in Tikrit told the NY Times, “We don’t trust the American-led coalition in combating ISIS… In the past, they have targeted our security forces and dropped aid to ISIS by mistake.”
Indeed, these allegations are supported dozens of accounts of airdropped US weapons being seized by ISIS. As Iraqi MP Majid al-Ghraoui noted in January, “The information that has reached us in the security and defense committee indicates that an American aircraft dropped a load of weapons and equipment to the ISIS group militants at the area of al-Dour in the province of Salahuddin… This incident is continuously happening and has also occurred in some other regions.”
Whether these incidents are simply honest mistakes by the vaunted US military with all its precision bombing capabilities, or they are indications of a more callous attempt to inflict casualties on all sides and prolong the regional war, either way they represent an abject failure of the US strategy against ISIS. But of course, the US policy failure goes much further than just mistakes on the battlefield. Rather, the entire policy of arming so-called “moderates” in Syria has led directly to the growth of ISIS into a regional power.
Since 2012, the US, primarily through the CIA, has been providing weapons andtraining to terrorists in Syria under the guise of arming “moderates.” Many of these allegedly moderate groups have in recent months been documented as having eitherdisbanded or defected to ISIS, including the little publicizedmass defections of former Free Syrian Army fighters. However it has happened, a vast arsenal of US-supplied weapons and other military hardware are now counted among the ISIS arsenal. So much for the US policy of ensuring the weapons don’t “fall into the wrong hands.”
So, while the US has proclaimed to be fighting ISIS and the al-Qaeda affiliated Nusra Front, they have been simultaneously arming and supporting many of the same forces which now make up much of the rank-and-file of these terror groups. With friends like these, who needs enemies?
Those who follow US foreign policy are likely unsurprised by these revelations of Washington providing arms and intensifying an already dangerous conflict. In Syria, the US has consistently argued that the Syrian government cannot be seen as a partner for peace, and so they must provide weapons to“moderates.” In Ukraine, where the US has a compliant and servile government that executes its diktats, Washington still supplies the arms, talking of peace and stability while exacerbating the war and human tragedy in East Ukraine.
Last week, the US House of Representatives overwhelmingly passed (348-48) a resolution to provide military support in the form of weapons to Ukraine. As Rep. Eliot Engel (D-NY), the ranking Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee stated,“The people of Ukraine are not looking for American troops. They are just looking for the weapons to defend themselves. They don’t have those weapons. We do.”
Indeed, it seems that US policy is to pursue “peace” at the barrel of a US-made, US-supplied gun. As Secretary of State John Kerry explained in his usual self-contradictory manner “To get peace, you have to defend your country,” a devilishly cynical statement from the man who, entirely without irony, explained in 2014 that “you don’t just invade another country on a phony pretext in order to assert your interests.”Perhaps, rather than invading countries, the Obama administration has decided to simply provide the weapons, training, and logistical and material support in order to assert its own interests.
While Syria and Iraq face an existential struggle against the wildfire that is the Islamic State, the United States arrives, gas can in hand, to make peace. As Ukraine slides deeper into civil war, the US provides all the ingredients for a witches’ brew of violence and bloodshed.
For all its talk of psychological war against ISIS, Washington has embraced an aggressive, multi-pronged approach that leaves little doubt as to the thinking of its strategic planners: the enemy of my enemy is both friend and enemy. As Tacitus famously said of the Romans, “They make a desert and call it peace.” So too do the Americans in the blood-soaked deserts of Syria and Iraq.

Iraqi Army Regains Tikrit
Local Editor
The hometown of former Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein was expected to be fully liberated within hours after the army troops and popular fighters inflicted major losses on the ISIL terrorists in the Southern and Western parts of the city and broke the terrorist group's fortified line of defense earlier in the day.
The Iraqi army and volunteer forces managed to retake Salahuddin provincial government's headquarters from the Takfiri group earlier today.
The Iraqi army also inflicted heavy casualties on the ISIL terrorists in Tikrit, and succeeded in liberating the city's School of Medicine from the control of the Takfiri group.
According to reports on Monday, the army soldiers made headway in their fight against the ISIL in Tikrit after killing more than 36 terrorists, and raised the national flag over the building of the medical center.
On Monday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar Al-Abadi announced that his country's forces are very near to winning back full control over Tikrit, adding that Mosul and Al-Anbar will be the next stop.
"The Iraqi troops are in the final battles for retaking control of Tikrit in Salahuddin province," the Iraqi prime minister said after meeting UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon in Baghdad on Monday.
Al-Abadi underlined that the Iraqi troops will try to regain control of Mosul and Al-Anbar in the next stage of their operations after Tikrit.

At Last I Met My Rabbi
Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro
By Gilad Atzmon
Fear of wisdom is one of the notable characteristics of the Palestinian Solidarity Movement. I often find myself flabbergasted by the indignation solidarity enthusiasts direct against creative minds, scholars, thinkers and wisdom in general. But the solidarity movement is consistent, coherent and determined on at least one front- it is united in its battle against ‘anti-Semitism.’ Not surprising, given that the movement has long been dominated by Jewish progressive organisations and funded by liberal Zionists such as George Soros and his Open Society Institute.
As many of us learn to accept that the solidarity movement has been largely reduced into a controlled opposition apparatus, it is reassuring to find out that Palestinians in general and Hamas in particular are more determined than ever to fight Israel and bring their on going plight to an end. In fact, the Palestinians are not alone. More and more solidarity supporters are awakening to the covert transformation in the movement. Increasingly, voices of dissent grasp that the solidarity discourse has taken an unfortunate turn. They detect the problematic Judeo-centrism embedded in Jewish progressive politics. In fact, especially since the Israeli elections, many of us have noticed that while Benjamin Netanyahu and his allies speak openly about the reality of the Jewish state, our imaginary friends at Mondoweiss, JVP and the PSC still prohibit any attempt to discuss the Jewish culture that drives the Jewish state. I hope that one day this clan of peace advocates will come to their senses, but I won’t hold my breath.
For a while I have been arguing that unlike the duplicitous Jewish progressive discourse, it is Jewish orthodoxy’s opposition to Zionism that presents the only Jewish principled, ethical collective stand against Zionism and Israeli evil.
A week ago I met the inspiring Rabbi Yaakov Shapiro in a kosher deli in Manhattan. The meeting was arranged by my dear friend and New York radio host Tom Kiely who joined us. (Please note that a kosher restaurant wasn’t my choice. For almost 20 years I’ve been keeping a very strict diet –I basically, eat ‘everything except kosher.’ This time I had to compromise on Brooklyn pickled cucumbers, and Israeli style instant humus. For the sake of peace, I was willing to compromise my most precious culinary rules.
I was thrilled to find out that Rabbi Shapiro was familiar with my thoughts. He has read ‘The Wandering Who.’ He was fully aware of my criticism of Jewishness. Our thoughts on the situation were pretty much in line. His scholarship was thorough and sincere, his arguments astute and his terminology transparent. This combination is rarely encountered within the institutional solidarity discourse.
Rabbi Shapiro is not happy with Zionism and not just because of the crimes that are committed in his name by those who call themselves Jews. He rightly sees himself and his community as victims of ‘identity theft.’ At a certain stage in recent Jewish history, a group of people (secular assimilated Jews) rebranded themselves as ‘the Jews’ at the expense of those who have been Jews and recognised as such throughout their long history (Torah Jews).
Rabbi Shapiro is an opponent of Zionism. But unlike the banal Diaspora Jewish left that ‘as Jews’ condemn Netanyahu or Israeli policy while overlooking the fact that such disapproval actually affirms Israel’s legitimacy as the Jewish State[1], Rabbi Shapiro protests against Israel’s self-proclaimed mandate to represent the Jews. Instead of falling into the usual secular Jewish ethno-centric exceptionalist trap that is symptomatic to Zionists as well as their so-called ‘anti,’ Rabbi Shapiro defines himself as an American citizen who follows the Jewish faith. He doesn’t claim any privilege when it comes to Israel or any other state. Quite the opposite, he claims no special privileges whatsoever. He opposes Israel not just because it has been plundering Palestine for decades but also because it has robbed the Jews of their true historic home, the Torah.
I pointed out to Rabbi Shapiro that Zionism wasn’t alone. At about the same time that Zionism was trying to uproot the Jew; the Bolsheviks were making final plans to transform the Russian people into a socialist collective and in Turkey, the Ottoman Empire was taken over by a new ideology determined to uproot its culture and heritage in the cause of secularist, nationalist westernisation. As Zionism became more popular amongst Jews in Europe and the West, The Frankfurt School was forging its post Marxist global uprooting doctrine and Wilhelm Reich decided that a sexual revolution could save the working class from their ‘mass reactionary conservatism.’
By the end of the millennium not much was left of the Western Athenian heritage. Suppressed and abused by the tyranny of political correctness policed by identity politics merchants, the Western citizen was reduced into a voiceless subservient consumer. Bolshevism, The Frankfurt School and Wilhelm Reich are considered by a growing number of scholars as ideologies associated with Jewish secular thoughts. Interestingly, a growing numbers of Turkish Scholars are now convinced that the Young Turks and even Kamal Ataturk, were in fact Jewish converts and followers of the false Jewish messiah Rabbi Sabbatai Zevi.Rabbi Shapiro wasn’t surprised by my thoughts. He was fully aware of the history and philosophy I expressed. He wasn’t annoyed by my suggestion that the Zionist assault on Torah followers was just one symptom of a far greater Jewish secular ideological transformation. A true scholar, Rabbi Shapiro referred me to some academic comparative studies of the Turkish revolution and the birth of Zionism. My take home message was clear-unlike the Jewish left that is determined to divert any attention from Jewishness, my new favourite fearless Rabbi is thrilled by the topic and is willing to engage in any attempt to review Jewish culture, ideology and history.
Unlike the Zionist and ‘anti’ who seem devastated by me turning my back on the Jews and Judaism, Rabbi Shapiro didn’t show any remorse from my drift away. For him, Judaism is a God oriented affair. The Torah and the bond it requires with God are demanding tasks. If you are not willing to believe in The Shem and take on all the commitments involved, don’t be bothered – set yourself free. And in practice, the freest Jew, the one brave enough to look in the mirror, to reflect and criticise, is apparently the most pious one-an orthodox Rabbi. I am relieved, but somehow I knew it all along.
[1] If X is entitled to criticize the Jewish state only because X is Jewish, then X’s criticism itself affirms Israel as the Jewish State.

Iranian Commander Categorically Denies Reports on Receiving Warning
Local Editor
Speaking to IRNA on Tuesday, he dismissed reports by certain western and regional media claiming that an Iranian naval fleet was forced to abandon Gulf of Eden by the Egyptian navy.
He said that the Iranian Navy is completing its mission successfully in full compliance with the international regulations.
According to the rear admiral, the Iranian Navy has the mission of providing security for shipping routes and prevent probable pirate attacks.
He said the Iranian Navy would never allow any alien fleet to issue an irrelevant warning.

Hizbullah Phobia Chases ’Israel’: 1200 Missiles per Day, Suicide Drones...Mass Causalities in next War
Local Editor
01-04-2015 | 11:33
Again and again, it's the "Israeli" phobia from Hizbullah.
For the first time in the Zionist entity since 2007, the "Home Front Command" and the Planning Directorate have drafted a new "reference scenario", visualizing a potential Third Lebanon War that includes an average of 1,200 rockets per day launched from Lebanon and hundreds of "Israeli" dying over the course of the battle.
The scenario - an up-to-date forecast upon which "Israel" bases its investment in troops and battle preparedness, and not necessarily a prognosis of what will actually occur - was distributed to mayors and mostly involves local authorities.
"It includes predictions of casualty numbers, damage to buildings, and the amount of rockets launched," based on the assessment of an "Israeli" senior Home Front Command official.
The official used the scenario supplied to "Kiryat Biyalik" as an example: "Dozens of rocket hits in the city on the worst day of the war, out of several hundred during the whole war. Tens of thousands of buildings will be damaged lightly or very lightly, hundreds moderately, a few dozen heavily, and very heavily in isolated cases. Hundreds will be wounded while only a small number will die, a few dozen will be moderately to critically wounded, and hundreds will be lightly wounded or victims of anxiety."
"While the Iron Dome system made hundreds of interceptions during Operation Edge and prevented rockets from landing in city centers, the situation in the north will likely be different."

According to the source, "The political echelon is the body expected to decide, based on a situation assessment, where to distribute 10 Iron Dome batteries and whether it would be preferable to deploy them to protect strategic sites like power stations, water pumps, and air bases, or to protect population centers."
The "Israeli" army estimates that in contrast to Hamas, Hizbullah possesses hundreds of precise missiles with GPS capability, in addition to an advanced arsenal of sophisticated suicide drones that could hit virtually any target in northern or central the Zionist entity. "Protection of strategic sites has been a drop in the ocean in the last few years," said the official. "The situation is not good."

Yemen Popular Committees Assume Responsibility of Bab Al-Mandeb Military Base
Local Editor
Yemen’s pro-Ansarullah popular committees took over full responsibility of a coastal military base overlooking the strategic Red Sea Bab al-Mandeb strait from the 17th Brigade which is tasked with guarding the strait by the defense ministry.

Yemeni sources said the 17th Brigade whose forces are loyal to former President Ali Abdullah Saleh opened the gates to the base n Yemen's southwestern Taiz province for the popular committees late on Tuesday night.
Popular committees deployed in several points across the military base, as they managed to enter arms depots there, the sources said.
Bab al-Mandeb is considered a strategic port as more than 3.4 million barrels of oil reportedly pass through the strait every day.
Yemen has been since last week subjected to a military offensive by Saudi-led coalition warplanes that are bombing several areas across the country, killing and injuring dozens of civilians.
The attack is aimed at protecting the Saud-backed former President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, whose mandate had ended after he offered his resignation and then took it back.
Ansarullah popular committees, who are also known as Houthis, had forced al-Qaeda-linked militants out of Sanaa last September. They called then for dialogue between the different factions in Yemen. However Hadi insisted to offer his resignation.
Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, denounced earlier on Friday the aggression against Yemen, stressing that the Saudi Arabia’s real intention behind the attack is to regain dominance on Yemen. Meanwhile, Sayyed Nasrallah called for the halt of the attack, assuring that the current crisis in the country should be solved politically.

Hezbollah: UN Human Rights Council Report on Syria Politicized, Biased
| Local Editor | ||||
| Hezbollah denounced as biased a UN Human Rights Council on Syria in which it claims the Syrian government has committed alleged crimes against civilians. In a statement released by Hezbollah’s Media Relations on Monday, the party said that the report is a clear indication that the international organizations are controlled by the US and the Zionist entity, “something which makes this report just like other oppressive and biased reports.” The UN Human Rights Council has adopted on Friday a new resolution in which it put the Syrian government and the Takfiri groups on the same foot, claiming that both sides are committing human rights violations against the Syrian civilians. The report is “illegitimate and futile as it lacks credibility,” Hezbollah stated. Friday’s report was adopted by six votes against and 29 votes in favor, after it was presented by the UK and sponsored by France, Germany, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Morocco, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, UK and US. “The fact that some regional states have backed this resolutions, expresses these states’ concerns over Hezbollah’s honorable role in confronting the Israeli aggression,” the Lebanese resistance movement said. As it thanked the states which voted against the resolution and refused the international pressure, Hezbollah condemned the international community’s silence on the Israeli daily crimes committed against the Palestinian people. Hezbollah also denounced the international silence on the crimes committed by “terrorist states and groups,” and the “last of which was the US-Saudi aggression against the oppressed Yemeni people.” | ||||

Saudi-Led Airstrikes Destroy Scud Missile Facility in Sanaa, Yemen

Saudi-led airstrikes continue to bombard the Yemeni capital of Sanaa, continuing into Monday night.
Since last Thursday, the bombings have been targeting Houthi rebels and troops loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh.
According to local residents speaking to Reuters, the airstrikes have largely targeted the area around the presidential palace. Figures released by Yemen’s health ministry — which is currently Houthi controlled — said 35 people had been killed over the weekend, with another 88 injured.
Bombing caused a large explosion at a Scud Missile Facility in the capital. According to Saudi Brigadier General Ahmed, all known Scud missile launch pads have been “devastated” by the bombing campaign.
All Yemeni fighter jets have been destroyed in the strikes, and Shia rebels have been forced from government airbases.
Despite the bombing campaign, Houthi fighters have continued to make gains. Though it has yet to make a decision, the Saudi Arabian government is considering sending ground troops into Yemen.
“I don’t know that anyone wants to go into Yemen but we don’t rule anything out. Right now the objective is being achieved through an air campaign,” Saudi ambassador to the US, Adel al-Jubeir told NBC, according to Al Arabiya.
According to a statement by the Arab League on Sunday, Saudi-led bombings will continue until Shia insurgents “withdraw and surrender their weapons.”The Saudi navy has also announced that it’s control of all Yemeni ports.
