The U.S. State Department on Friday confirmed that an American citizen carried out a suicide bombing in Syria.
The bomber, who called himself Abu Hurayra al-Amriki, carried out one of four suicide bombings on May 25 in Syria’s Idlib province on behalf of Jabhat al-Nusra, Al-Qaida’s affiliate fighting to oust the government of President Bashar Assad.
“I can confirm this individual was a U.S. citizen involved in a suicide bombing in Syria,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said at a news briefing.
The bomber was in his 20s, of Middle Eastern descent, and grew up in Florida the New York Times said, citing two senior law enforcement officials. U.S. authorities learned he was in Syria over the past year, and officials said it was probably the first incident of an American involved in a suicide bombing in Syria, the newspaper said.
Earlier this week, social media postings, including Twitter messages and a video posted on YouTube, showed Abu Hurayra posing in a still picture with three other suicide bombers, one of whom was Syrian. The other two were foreigners.
The video shows a truck-sized vehicle being loaded with explosives and then cuts to a long-shot of a fortress-like structure on top of a hill being blown up.
According to Shiraz Maher, a researcher with a University of London think tank, last week, an Al-Qaida media outlet issued a short promotional video about a forthcoming film related to an “American” fighter in Syria.
The teaser, which opens with a graphic of a burning American flag and an exhortation to “Join the Caravan of Jihad and Martyrdom,” promotes a longer video featuring “The story of an American Muhajir (visitor) in Sham (Syria).”
The short video includes a brief sound bite in which a man with an American or Canadian accent, whose face is blurred, declares: “It is huq (right) on you to fight.”

A new PBS documentary on the training operation in Qatar is also bringing added focus to the policy as it already exists, with trainees saying they were being taught “how to finish off soldiers still alive after an ambush.”

ISIL terrorists butchering Iraqi Shias

A gruesome video has been released purportedly showing members of the so-called Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terror group brutally killing Shia Muslims in Iraq.
The footage recently posted on Mashreghnews website shows members of the al-Qaeda-linked Takfiri group gunning down Shia civilians in drive-by shootings.

The terrorists are seen opening fire on Iraqi Shias travelling in their cars or walking by in the streets.

After spraying their victims’ vehicles with bullets, the terrorists stop their cars and shoot the occupants yet again at point-blank range in an apparent bid to make sure the ill-fated victims are dead.

The footage also includes a scene where the terrorists riddle a pedestrian with bullets before his blood-covered body falls to the ground.

Takfiri groups, including ISIL, are reportedly coming to Iraq from neighboring Syria and Saudi Arabia to undermine security in the country.

Iraq is currently witnessing a wave of violence unprecedented in recent years.

Official figures show that more than 1,000 people, mostly civilians, were killed and nearly 1,400 others injured in violent attacks across Iraq in April. According to the United Nations, almost 9,000 people were killed in 2013.

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki has said Saudi Arabia and Qatar are responsible for the security crisis and growing terrorism in his country, denouncing the Al Saud regime as a major supporter of global terrorism.

The government in Iraq has also blamed Riyadh for the chaos, saying Saudi Arabia is funding and arming militants fighting against Iraqi forces in the country’s western areas, including Anbar Province.
