MEP hit by teargas

...He says Israeli soldiers released a barrage of teargas grenades and sandblast bombs - even though the protesters had their hands in the air.

Mr Davies was marching with Italian MP Luisa Morgantini and although he suffered no serious injuries said the experience has left him shocked.

"It is shameful that the troops of a democratic nation think nothing of attacking peaceful protesters in territory that is not their own," said the MEP.

Muslim British parliamentarian to visit Gaza Strip

(...) Lord Nazir Ahmad at his press conference disclosed that he would be heading a 15-member delegation later this month which would also be taking a tonne of medical supplies for the residents of the territory.

Baroness Jenny Tonge, former Labour Minister and MP Clare Short and Dr.Arafat Shoukry, Coordinator, The European Campaign to end the siege on Gaza, also spoke on the occasion and criticized the double standards of the West with regard to its policies on Gaza and its attitude towards the democratically elected Hamas Government which is running the territory.

Lord Ahmad said originally 53 international parliamentarians had planned to visit Gaza through Rafah Crossing with Egypt but the delegation number had to scaled back after the Egyptian Government refused to grant visa or passage to them.

“Now it has been decided that a small delegation of around 15 would proceed to Gaza by sea on Free Gaza Boat either through Greece or Cyprus,” he said.

Palestinian power struggle swallows millions in aid cash

After 70 patients, including children, were left without the essential drug Cryone, urgent supplies were replenished only when they came on thelast "Free Gaza" boat of international activists to dock in Gaza City. Gaza residents 'terribly trapped'

A former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson, has told the BBC she was taken aback by the "terrible" conditions in Gaza on a recent visit.

Mrs Robinson said it was "almost unbelievable" that the world did not care about what she called "a shocking violation of so many human rights".

We, representatives of international civil society meeting in Bilbao, agree that the State of Israel must be held legally accountable. By granting Israel impunity for its persistent and systematic violations of international law and fundamental human rights, treating it as an exception above the law of nations, and providing it with unlimited political, economic, scientific, cultural and diplomatic support, the United States, the EU and other players in the so-called international community are guilty of complicity in perpetuating Israeli apartheid and colonial rule. Only by ending this complicity can justice and dignity be restored to the Palestinian people and lasting, comprehensive peace be established in the Middle East.
