22/03/2009 The 'Free Galilee' group claimed responsibility for an attempted car bombing operation at a Haifa mall, while Israeli occupation police have raised the alert level in the Northern District following the incident.
A small blast, possibly caused by a botched detonation, drew the attention of Israeli police to the parking area of the mall in the northern city of Haifa on Saturday night, said Israeli police spokesman Mickey Rosenfeld.
They found a "large explosive" in the car and called in bomb disposal experts, said Rosenfeld, adding: "We believe it was an attempt to carry out a terrorist attack."
Police spokesman Moshe Weitzman told Israeli daily The Jerusalem Post that "dozens of kilograms of explosives" were uncovered in the car. "We have gone on alert and will remain prepared," Weitzman said.
The Palestinian resistance group, that claimed responsibility for planting the bomb, said it wanted to avenge Israel's demolition of Palestinian homes in occupied Jerusalem and the recent Israeli occupation military offensive in Gaza, that killed over 1400 Palestinians, including 420 children and wounded more than 5300 others.
