OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- Israeli municipal staff escorted by Israeli occupation forces and policemen in occupied Jerusalem demolished Monday morning a Palestinian house belonging to a Palestinian citizen from Burj Al-Laqlaq neighborhood in the Old City.

Umm Imran Al-Fakhouri, the owner of the house, told journalists who were blocked by IOF troops from entering the area, that she received the demolition notice last Thursday despite it had submitted different blueprints for the house to the Israeli municipality to get a construction permit, but all of them were declined.

Fakhouri said that the under-construction house consisted of three rooms and was demolished in 2001 and rebuilt three years ago, but the Israeli municipality ordered the termination of construction works in the house and since then the house had remained unfinished.

Fakhouri had to build this house because of the miserable living conditions she and her grandsons live in inside her old house that is high in humidity especially during winters.

Israeli police said that they had informed Al-Fakhouri family about the demolition decision last Monday and also demanded the family to pay a fine for building without a license.

Five other Jerusalemite families living in the vicinity of the cultural and sport center in Burj Al-Laqlaq received demolition orders at the pretext of unlicensed construction.

Hasan Al-Sharif, one of Buj Al-Laqlaq residents, told the PIC reporter that the municipal staff keep storming this area and the Old City in Jerusalem day and night to issue fines, hunt for unlicensed buildings and prevent Palestinians from making any adjustments to their homes.

It was also reported that more than 153 Palestinian citizens in the neighborhoods of Issawiya, Beit Hanina, Attur, Shuafat and Ras Al-Amud in Jerusalem were handed demolition orders.

Hayel Sandouqa, a researcher in settlement activities in Jerusalem, warned that the Old City in Jerusalem is exposed at the present time to unprecedented judaization activities and frenzied attacks by Israeli settlers, pointing out that the Israeli occupation plans to link Burj Al-Laqlaq to the project of Bab Al-Sahira settlement through building 150 new settlement units.

On Saturday afternoon, an Israeli court examining an appeal filed by the family, delayed deliberations on the home until April 16, so settlers decided to attack and occupy the property once again.

Although the attack was carried out by settlers, the Israeli police arrested several members of Jaber family attempting to stop the settlers who did not only attack their home but also attacked a number of homes in the neighborhood.

The detained residents were taken to Al Maskobiyya prison, in West Jerusalem, and are undergoing interrogation.

The police also violently attacked Hasan Ja’far, 40, Abu Waheeb Nassar, 56, and the owner of the home, Nasser Jaber. All were moved to a nearby clinic after suffering bruises and cuts.

Eyewitnesses reported that at least 1000 soldiers and policemen surrounded the neighborhood barring the residents from entering or leaving it. Soldiers also barred the media from entering the neighborhood and topped a number of homes.

Israel has recently escalated its violations and attacks against Palestinians in East Jerusalem; has demolished several homes and issued demolition orders on dozens of other homes.

Encouraged by the illegal conduct of their government, settlers have also stepped up their attacks against the residents of East Jerusalem, and are trying to establish more illegal outposts.
