BEIRUT, (PIC)-- Osama Hamdan, the Hamas representative in Lebanon, has reiterated his Movement's insistence on reconciliation and on backing Egyptian efforts in this regard to end the Palestinian division.
Hamdan said in a press statement on Wednesday that signing the Egyptian paper for national reconciliation as it is without discussing it would obstruct reconciliation rather than speed it.
There should be a meeting to discuss the changes introduced on the paper and to agree on a mechanism for implementing it, he elaborated.
The Hamas leader warned that the reported meeting for the PLO's central council in mid December to shift the Palestinian legislative council's (PLC) jurisdictions to it would constitute a blow to the Egyptian efforts and end any hope for mediation. He explained that such a step would only deepen division and would add illegal dimensions to it.
The central council is not elected and does not have any legal power to control the elected PLC, Hamdan underlined, adding that the step would terminate efforts to reactivate the PLO.
