An Ode to a Diplomatic Terrorist: Saud Al-Faysal Dies at the Age of 75

The former Saudi Foreign Minister, Saud bin Faysal bin ‘Abdel-‘Aziz Al-Saud (Saud Al-Faysal), has been declared dead by his doctors at the age of 75.

Saud Al-Faysal was the longest reigning foreign minister in the world (1975-2015) before he retired due to health issues in early 2015.

The Saudi diplomat was famous for his “silent diplomacy” and the 1989 Taif Agreement that ended the brutal civil war in Lebanon.

However, despite multiple politicians commending Saud Al-Faysal as a diplomat, the deceased foreign minister was a notorious supporter of international terrorism and corruption.

Claims that the late foreign minister was a “humanitarian” and/or a “champion of diplomacy” are hyperboles stated by those who benefitted financially from his corrupt policies and morally irresponsible politics.

Saud Al-Faysal called for tougher sanctions against Iran, despite the fact that the country’s civilians had already suffered enough from the multiple embargos set forth by the United States and its allies.

When the Bahraini demonstrations began in the Spring of 2011, the late foreign minister called upon the Saudi Army to putdown the unrest and restore order for his Wahhabi allies from the Al-Khalifa family.

Ironically, at the same time, he criticized the Syrian President, Dr. Bashar Al-Assad, for his handling of the demonstrations in Syria – in fact, Saud Al-Faysal was the first to call upon the international community to arm the Syrian Opposition in 2012.

Saud Al-Faysal became the biggest cheerleader for the international jihad in Syria, financing any and all groups willing to overthrow the government of Dr. Bashar Al-Assad.

He dictated the affairs of the Syrian Opposition and dangled their funding in their face if they did not comply with his policies.

No, Saud Al-Faysal was not an honorable diplomat – he was a man that used his power and wealth to manipulate others for his own benefit and that of his family.

While the politicians and journalists that financially benefitted from Saud Al-Faysal’s wealth lament his death, the people of Syria, Yemen, Libya, Iraq, and Bahrain are all elated.

The man that orchestrated the Arab Spring and the proliferation of weapons to radical Islamists has now met his demise.

He leaves the Arab world in shambles; so, don’t cry for him – cry for the millions of Arabs that have been inflicted by his political corruption and greed.

Former Saudi FM Prince Saud al-Faisal Dies

Saudi Arabia's Prince Saud al-Faisal, who was the world's longest-serving foreign minister, has died, family members and a foreign ministry spokesman said late Thursday.

Prince Saud, who was born in 1940, was one of the highest profile members of Saudi's ruling elite and steered the diplomacy of the world's leading oil exporter for four decades before stepping down in April for health reasons.

Nawaf al-Faisal, a relative, announced the death on Facebook, while a foreign ministry spokesman also confirmed the death on Twitter and expressed condolences.

"I wish I could deny the rumor of the news of your death," the spokesman Osama Nugali tweeted.

Prince Saud's nephew Saud Mohammed al-Abdullah al-Faisal also acknowledged the death of the veteran diplomat.
