Lavrov: Syrian “Opposition” will not Defeat Army even if It Was “Armed to Teeth”

Local Editor

Russia assured Wednesday that the so-called Syrian opposition will never defeat the national army even if it was "armed to the teeth".

“It is clear as day that even if the Syrian opposition is armed to the teeth, it will not be able to defeat the government's army,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said, indicating that there will be “slaughter for years” if the West and Arabs intervened in the country and continued arming militants.

In the same context, Lavrov pointed out in a statement he made during his visit to Azerbijan that the “Friends of Syria” meetings don’t seek to end the violence taking place there.

“Holding Friends of Syria' meetings in Istanbul - ones that are aimed at ensuring that the opposition does not agree to negotiations - only undermines efforts to stop the violence," he said.
