DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Nine committees concerned with the Palestinian refugees' right of return on Saturday evening announced the establishment of the Palestinian council for the right of return (Mithaq) with the aim of endorsing RoR.

The council members read out the charter they endorsed at the Arab culture center in Yarmouk refugee camp which affirmed that historical Palestine was not for partitioning and was the homeland of none other but the Palestinian people.

The charter stressed that the Palestinian refugees are entitled to return to their cities, villages and homes of their father sand forefathers from where they were expelled n 1948, adding that RoR was not for bargaining, negotiations or referendum considering the surrendering of that right as "high treason".

There is no legitimacy for any party trying to give up RoR, it said.

The founding statement of the council said that the state of Palestinian division and the absence of a political leadership for the Palestinian people in light of that rift were threatening RoR.

Ahmed Hussein, secretary of the Palestinian return group (Wajeb) one of the founding committees, said that the step was taken in a bid to counter the "ferocious campaign against Palestinian rights".
