13/07/2009 A small roadside bomb narrowly missed a vehicle carrying the US ambassador to Iraq in the south of the country, the US embassy in Baghdad said on Monday. The attack on the convoy carrying Christopher Hill and other US embassy personnel occurred in the largely peaceful province of Dhi Qar in southern Iraq on Sunday, but no passengers were hurt.
"An explosive device detonated near a convoy carrying American embassy personnel, including the ambassador, on July 12 in Dhi Qar province," embassy spokeswoman Susan Ziadeh said. "No personnel were injured or hurt. An investigation into the incident is taking place," she said, without giving further details. USA Today reported that the explosion caused minor damage to the vehicle directly in front of the one carrying Hill.
