IOA extends solitary confinement of Abdullah Al-Barghouthi

NAZARETH, (PIC)-- The Israeli occupation authority (IOA) has extended the isolation of Abdullah Al-Barghouthi, a commander of the Qassam Brigades the armed wing of Hamas, for six more months.

The Israeli prisons authority had asked a military court held in Nazareth to extend Barghouthi's isolation without declaring reasons, but tabled "secret" information with the judge who decided in favor of the extension.

The judge said that he was convinced with the evidence tabled against Barghouthi that necessitated his isolation for six more months, adding that Barghouthi, who is serving 67 life sentences, was still posing a threat to Israel.

Societies catering for prisoners' affairs described the court's decision as based on "revenge" rather than justice since Barghouthi constituted a challenge to Israel due to his resilience.

Barghouthi has been in isolation ever since his detention six years ago.
