DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Head of Hamas's political bureau Khaled Mishaal sent his sincere condolences over the death of the Lebanese noted religious figure Sheikh Mohamed Fadlallah, describing him as one of the most prominent Muslim scholars who supported the choice of resistance against the occupation.

In a condolence letter, Mishaal said that the late Sheikh was characterized by his distinctive knowledge, modesty and openness to others as well as his courageous positions towards the Muslim nation's issues, especially the Palestinian cause.

For its part, the Hamas Movement also expressed its deep sympathy with the Lebanese people and the family of Sheikh Fadlallah.

Hamas said in statement that the Sheikh spent his life in serving the Islamic project and calling for unity in the face of the occupation, and was one of the advocates for a rapprochement between the Muslim sects.

Sheikh Fadlallah died on Sunday in Beirut at age 75 and he was known for bridging religious divides and his opposition to the Israeli occupation and the American policy in the Middle East.
