Nakhala: Egypt still detaining 11 Jihad elements
[ 04/07/2010 - 06:17 PM ]
DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Deputy secretary general of Islamic Jihad movement Ziyad Nakhala has said that Egypt was detaining 11 of its members despite numerous mediation bids to release them.
He told Quds Press on Sunday that tens of Palestinians are also barred from returning to Gaza Strip at Egyptian orders, describing Cairo's position toward the Palestine cause as "ambiguous".
He said theoretically Egypt should be a supporter of the Palestine cause but "we cannot understand some of Egypt's practices". He added, "We might understand that Egypt does not want to shoulder the burden of the Rafah crossing, but we cannot understand why it arrests Palestinians."
The Jihad official renewed his movement's rejection of the Egyptian reconciliation paper, adding that it only met the demands of Mahmoud Abbas, the former PA chief and Fatah leader.
