A Zionist building committee on Wednesday approved construction of 380 new Jewish-only settlement units in occupied East Jerusalem.
The Jerusalem Local Planning and Building Committee approved construction of 307 homes in the Ramot settlement and 73 in the Har Homa settlement, The Jerusalem Post newspaper reported.
According to the newspaper, the new housing units are part of a large-scale project – approved in August 2011 – to build some 1,000 settlement units in the area, for which building tenders were issued in April 2012.
The Zionist entity occupied East Jerusalem during the 1967 Middle East War. It later annexed the historic city in 1980, claiming it as the capital of the self-proclaimed Jewish 'state' in a move never recognized by the international community.
Palestinians accuse the occupation authorities of waging an aggressive campaign to "Judaize" the city with the aim of effacing its Arab and Islamic identity and ultimately driving out its Palestinian inhabitants.
