The Iraqi Joint Forces Command declared on Tuesday the start of the operation to liberate the province of Ramadi.

The command’s media office issued a statement, saying: “The Iraqi Joint Forces Command declares the start of operations to Liberate Anbar.”

The move comes as the Iraqi forces are going on with cleansing areas surrounding Baiji city, the statement added, according to Iraqi TV, al-Sumaria.

Earlier on Tuesday, al-Anbar council member Adhal Obeid al-Fahdawi, said that the Iraqi forces had cut supply lines for ISIL south of Ramadi, noting that the forces were readying for the awaited operation.

For its part, AFP news agency reported that the Iraqi forces, backed by Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) launched an operation in desert areas northeast of Ramadi Tuesday in a bid to cut off the Takfiri militants.

The agency quoted Ahmed al-Assadi, spokesman for the Hashed al-Shaabi as saying that the operation will see a mix of security forces and paramilitaries move south from Salaheddin province.
"The operation's goal is to liberate those regions between Salaheddin and Anbar and try to isolate the province of Anbar," Assadi told AFP.

He said it had been dubbed "Operation Labaik ya Hussein" (at your service O Imam Hussein).
The PMF is known as “al-Hashd al-Shaabi” in Arabic. These forces are made up of local militants who volunteered to fight beside the Iraqi army following ISIL’s takeover of several areas across the country last summer.

Iraqi army make further gains in fight against ISIL in Salahuddin province

Reports say volunteer fighters have managed to retake control of Hajjaj district, north of Tikrit.

The Iraqi army, reinforced by volunteer forces, has been pushing its way towards areas which are still under the control of the terrorists. In March, they successfully drove out the ISIL from the strategic city of Tikrit. The terror group swept through a large part of northern Iraq after starting its campaign of terror in early June 2014. The army backed by Shia and Sunni volunteer forces, has succeeded in flushing the terrorists out of several areas in recent months. They’re now preparing to launch a major offensive to retake the city of Ramadi in the western Anbar province.

Iraqi army captures 200 foreign terrorists in Anbar province

The Iraqi army has captured 2-hundred foreign terrorists in the western province of Anbar ahead of a major operation there. That was announced by Commander of Anbar operation Major General Ghasim al-Mohammadi.

The general also said they are gearing up for a major push to retake the city of Ramadi in the province from the ISIL terrorists. Shia volunteers and the army are encircling Ramadi from three directions. The army has set up one of its operation bases to train the volunteers in the city of Karbala, south of Ramadi. The joint forces have recently made important gains against the Takfiri terrorists. In their latest offensive, they managed to take over Hajjaj district in Salahuddin province from the terrorists. The area is located near the strategic city of Tikrit, which was successfully liberated in March.
