NAZARETH, (PIC)-- Israeli minister of infrastructure Uzi Landau told the Hebrew radio that the Fatah-controlled authority in Ramallah was not capable of controlling the West Bank without Israeli assistance.

He said on Saturday that Hamas would have toppled the Ramallah authority long time ago if the Israeli assistance was not there.

In another development, Israeli Knesset (parliament) member Gideon Ezra said that Fatah and its PA in Ramallah led by Mahmoud Abbas do not want Marwan Al-Barghouthi, Fatah secretary in the West Bank, out of jail.

He told the Israeli army radio that the PA leaders fear that Barghouthi would take control of the West Bank in the event he was released from Israeli jails in any future prisoners' exchange deal.

Ezra, who is a former intelligence official, also acknowledged that the Israeli intelligence had failed to locate the detention place of captive soldier Gilad Shalit in Gaza.
