US Reconnaissance Plane Forced Out of Iranian Airspace after Serious Warning

Al-Manar

11/05/2010 Commander of the Iranian Army announced on Tuesday a US reconnaissance plane shooed away from Iranian airspace after it received a prompt warning from the army's air-defense following a bid to approach the Iranian naval maneuvers.

"Yesterday (Monday) a US reconnaissance plane sought to approach our region but it left the area after receiving a prompt warning from the Army's air-defense (unit)," Major General Ataollah Salehi told reporters on Tuesday.
Salehi made the remarks on the sidelines of the 7th day of a series of massive war games in the Persian Gulf; the six-staged naval drills which began on Wednesday and will last for 8 days.

Salehi confirmed that "it's past the epoch when America would change the regime in a country by just dispatching a warship."
He also assured that Iran is "very serious about the protection of its interests."

Earlier this month, Iranian military officials reported that an Iranian Navy plane managed to capture US aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower on film during a reconnaissance operation over the Sea of Oman last week.
"An F27 plane of the Army's Navy flew above this aircraft carrier and captured it on film thoroughly," Iranian Army's Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari said.

The Admiral pointed out that the USS Eisenhower had protested against the Iranian plane's reconnaissance mission, "but we insisted that this (imaging) is our right".

U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said last week Iran was challenging U.S. naval power in the Middle East "with an array of offensive and defensive weapons".
