Alaa Abdel Fattah: Moving to Tora Prison

“After a revolution that toppled a tyrant, I return to the tyrant’s prison.”

These are the words of prominent political activist and blogger Alaa Abdel Fattah who is in jail after refusing to face interrogation by Egypt’s military council SCAF, the country’s new de facto rulers. Abdel Fattha’s mother Laila Soueif went on hunger strike Sunday to protest her son’s detention. Al-Akhbar translated Abdel Fattah’s letter about his relocation to Tora Prison.

Day 5, November 3, 2011

First Night in Cell 1/6, Tora Prison

I feel embarrassed as I write this blog entry. I was relocated to Torra prison based on my insistence and whining because I could not bear the difficult conditions in the Appeals Prison - the darkness, the filth, the cockroaches walking over my body night and day, no break, no sunlight, and darkness again. The most exhausting aspect was the toilet. I had no clue as to how to deal with its filthy conditions, its crowdedness, and absence of doors. I fasted for five days and had to go.

I was confused by Nawwara’s article celebrating my manhood. But the article by Najla Bdeir reminded me that in my previous incarceration, my blog post was my refuge, a place where I could be candid with myself.

I didn’t know how to be a man and square it with my condition,
even though thousands are putting up with similar or worse conditions. I have not had a taste of the atrocities of the War Prison or tortured like fellow prisoners of military trials.

I have let down fellow detainees of the Maspero incident, and those locked up by the ministry of defense and other politicians. I have let down prisoners who were mobilized by the stir caused by my arrest and who decided to tell me about the horrific acts of the interior ministry, so I could tell people in turn. They were happy that someone may be able to make the voice of the baltagiyya (thugs) and gang rings heard. And I ran away because of the toilet.

I have traded the prison dedicated to public crime convicts, where inmates are young and raucous and fun, for one housing those embezzling public funds, a place full of old people, depression, and boredom. Back in the previous jail, I discovered an important case or an injustice every day. Police officers were imprisoned after their first demonstration and accused of torching the ministry. I did not realize that there was a real issue among the ranks of the officers until I met them. Tamer Rashwan was embroiled in a mysterious case that makes us suspect that State Security are developing new subtle tools of oppression to replace those of arrest, torture and neglect that had been taking place in front of me ̶ things I kept count of to tell you about when I am released.

Convicts were not the only ones who felt I could play a role inside the former prison. Intelligence officers were searching and insulting anyone who spoke to me and what I said was being relayed to management.

I left all of that for a roomy, clean and sunlit cell, and because I couldn’t be tough enough to tolerate the toilet back there. This is my capacity, my limit, my weakness.

Even my decision to be interrogated by a military prosecutor (something you are celebrate) involved a bit of cowardice. When we met to take that decision, I didn't have the courage to consult [my wife] Manal, whom I was to leave behind during her last days of pregnancy and who had to supervise the workers setting up the room of [our expected son] Khaled. While I would go to jail, she would have to run around looking after my needs and my visit permits, as well work on the campaign supporting my case.

I took the decision in a meeting in which I listened to my revolutionary comrades but not my wife, and took for granted that she would support whatever decision I take.

But I am also proud. It is true I am not the “man” that [activist] Nawwarah spoke of. But I am not a coward either. I was offered a deal by a prominent personality of the revolution that would guarantee my release provided I stop insulting the Mushir [Tantawi]. That’s it! A very simple request that I refused. How would I face my parents had I accepted the offer?

Let’s start from the beginning: How are you? I am Alaa, a foot soldier of the revolution. There are those who sacrificed a lot more than I have, there are those who are a lot braver than myself, and those that have a bigger role.

I am Alaa and I am very proud that I am doing what I can and that I am sometimes surprised at what I can do. I know myself and I know what is beyond my limits. I try to be there for the cause and to always overcome fear and be on the frontlines.

If you sense in me courage, valiance, or daring, know that it is derived from my mother, my younger sisters, and my wife, whom parting ways with is the most difficult thing in prison.

Cell 19, Appeals Prison, Bab al-Khalq

Day 3, November 1, 2011

Memories of my previous jail time come back to me. All the details, from the skill of sleeping on the floor alongside eight colleagues in a narrow cell (2 by 4m) to prison songs and conversations with convicts. But I am unable to remember how I preserved my eyeglasses while I slept. They have now been stepped on three times in one day. Suddenly, I remember that they are the same pair that I had on me when I was locked up in connection with the 2006 Judges Uprising.
I also remember that I am detained today under the same grandiose and hollow accusations hurled at me the previous time. The only difference is that a military prosecutor has replaced a national security one - befitting the military moment we are living through.

Last time, I was in the company of 50 colleagues from the Kefaya movement. Now, I am by myself, sharing the space with guilty and innocent felons, both suffering from injustice.

As soon as they found out I was one of the "revolutionary youth", they cursed the revolution and its failure to round up the interior ministry folks. I spend my first two days in custody listening to stories of torture at the hands of a police force that not only insists on resisting reform but takes its defeat out on the bodies of the powerless, both the guilty and the innocent.

From the stories that my cell mates recount, I discover the extent of the great achievements of restoring security. Two of the inmates are first timers. Their charge? Membership in a mob ring! Yep, Abu Malik is an armed mob. Now I know what the ministry of interior means when it comes out every day with news of arresting gangs. Blessed are we for the return of security!

During the few hours when sunlight enters the ever dark cell, we read what a former fellow inmate had carved on the wall in beautiful Arabic script. Four walls from floor to ceiling covered with Quranic verses, prayers, and reflections, and what appears to be an overwhelming desire for repentance. The next day, we discover in a corner the date of the inmate's execution. We are overtaken by a fit of crying. The guilty seek repentance. But the innocent are clueless about how to avoid a similar fate.
I drift away from engaging with the prisoners and listen to the radio. I hear about his Excellency the General as he inaugurates the longest flag in the world destined to enter Guinness world records. I wonder: By inserting the name of martyr Mina Daniel (who died at the Maspero massacre) as one of the inciters in my case an instance of another world record, this time in impudence?
Not only do they kill someone and walk in their funeral procession, but they spit on his body and accuse it of committing a crime. Or maybe the cell I am in is worthy of the title for the number of cockroaches it is home to. Abu Malik interrupts my train of thought: “By God, if the revolution doesn’t do justice to the wrongly accused, it will not succeed.”

Al-Assad: We Should Triumph in Battle of Sovereignty

The Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad considered that “the Syrian people’s stance against sedition, terrorism, and foreign interference, and holding on to their believes and standards that are based on legitimate rights, is the base of Syria’s firmness against schemes.”
After performing Al-Adha Eid Prayers in Al-Rqa province in Syria, the Syrian President met with social, political, and economic activists in the province and assured that “Syria is strong by its people’s power as well as national and free decisions, and is determined to make efforts for regaining all its national rights.”

“We don’t have a choice but to triumph in any battle that targets our sovereignty and national decision,” he added.

Al-Moallem Sends Letters to FMs on US Involvement in Syria Bloody Events

Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Moallem sent letters to Foreign Ministers informing them that, “after the Syrian Arab Republic took an important step to stop violence by calling upon armed men to hand down their weapons and get released soon, Syria was surprised by the statement of the US Department of State's spokeswoman calling upon the gunmen not to hand over their weapons to the Syrian government.” According to SANA news agency, the letters were sent to FMs of Russia, China, India, South Africa, Brazil, and chairman and members of the Arab Ministerial Committees, the Arab League Secretary General, the UN Secretary General, and President of the UN Security Council. Al-Moallem added that Syria sees the US call as a direct involvement in the sedition and violence in Syria which caused the Syrian army, police and civilians to lose innocent victims. In his letters, al-Moallem said that Syria considers the US call an encouragement to the armed groups to continue their criminal acts against the Syrian people and state, which negates the claims of peaceful protests and show a desire to obstruct the initiative and efforts of the Arab League which are aimed at putting an end to the Syrian crisis and restoring security and stability. Al-Moallem briefed the foreign ministers that the Syrian government has reacted positively to the AL initiative and is exerting efforts to implement it, hoping they would be informed of the US involvement in the bloody events in Syria and condemn it, and exert every effort to put an end to them and help the Syrian government provide the appropriate climate for implementing the agreement between Syria and the Arab League.

White House: "No possibility of a US attack on Iran!"

Via FLC

"For all the glitz of the G20 summit the discourse in Washington remains subdued and introverted. Personal charges and counter charges fill the air in the Republican presidential nomination race, with important policy issues failing to command attention. While the expectation remains that Governor Romney will eventually win the nomination, the selection process is diminishing all the candidates. A sense of pessimism accompanies the deliberations of the Congressional “super-committee” mandated to find some $1.3 trillion in deficit reductions measures over the coming decade. Experienced observed fear that the outcome will be that the Congress faces another sustained period of paralysis. None of this bodes well for a smooth execution of foreign policy. With the Middle East peace process on hold and concerns that the “Arab Spring” is fragmenting along national lines, US policy in the region now faces an additional challenge. As the momentum for Palestinian statehood gains momentum among the UN specialized agencies, the US faces the prospect of continued mandatory cessation of US funding. This has already happened in the case of UNESCO and may extend soon to other agencies like the IAEA. With the latter poised to issue a hard-hitting report on Iran’s alleged nuclear weapons program, Administration officials are trying to find ways to maintain a US presence in these agencies even if they grant Palestinian statehood. On Iran, we have reported the increase in decibel level of calls from some conservative organizations for military action – either unilaterally or in support of Israel – against the nuclear research sites. Once the IAEA report is released, these will certainly intensify. Our Administration contacts tell us, however, that there is no possibility of a US attack on Iran. Nor do they expect one from Israel at this juncture. Of more far-reaching consequence is the report from the National Counterintelligence Executive alleging massive cyber attacks on government agencies and businesses by China and Russia. A consensus is forming among US defense experts that the US is increasingly vulnerable in this area. Significant resources are being devoted to cyber security and the issue has the capacity to bedevil relations with China."

‘Occupy Boston’ takes Israeli consulate

by Dr. Ashraf Ezzat on November 7, 2011
‘Occupy Boston’ protesters in the US have stormed the Israeli consulate in the city and held a brief sit-in in the building’s lobby, Press TV reports.

On Friday, activists gathered calling for the liberation of Palestine, angry at Israel for intercepting an aid flotilla on its way to the besieged Gaza Strip.

Protesters chanted slogans such as, “not another nickel, not another dime! No more money for Israel’s crimes” and “Vive viva Palestina,” demanding the departure of Israeli consulate officials from the US.
The protest is part of a global movement against social and economic inequalities, and corporate greed.
'Occupy Boston' anti-Israeli rally.
Participants made clear that they are not anti-Semites, but anti-Zionists, critical of the Israeli government’s current policies.
The “Occupy” movement emerged after a group of Americans on September 17 gathered in New York’s financial district to protest against the unjust distribution of wealth in the US and the excessive influence of big corporations on the American politics.
Despite mass arrests and widespread police crackdown, the movement has now spread to major US cities, as well as to other countries, including Australia, Britain, Germany, Italy, Spain, Ireland, and Portugal.

Islamophobes hate OWS movement

Islamophobia is a $42 million industry in United States. The seven foundations which fund this industry are connected with the Wall Street. Therefore, it’s logical that Islamophobes have to be against Occupy Wall Street (OWS) movement which is gaining momemtum with the passage of time.

One of these Islamophobes is House Majority Leader, Eric Cantor (R-Va) who has called OWS protesters nothing more tha “mob. Anyone who knows Eric Cantor’s major Jewish donors, they’re all Israel-Firsters (Kenneth Bialkin of ADL, Gary Cohn of Goldman Sachs, Lewis M. Eisenberg, the guy who sold WTC to Larry Silverstein in 2001. Larry well insured it and received $7 billion after 9/11, Henry Kravis, member of Rothschild-controlled Bilderberg and CFR, bilionaire Ronald Perelman of Revlon cosmetic empire and billionaire James Tisch of CBS).

Last year Eric Cantor in his address at Ziocon Heritage Foundation’s ‘Protect America Month’ had advised Barack Obama to stop apologizing to Arab world and tell 1.7 billion Muslims that they’re their own enemies.

In the battle of ideas, we win when the people of the Middle East see that the real threat to Muslims is neither America, Israel or Britain, but the ruthless Islamist terrorists,” said Eric.
Cantor’s particular influence stems from his control – along with another pro-Israeli hardliner, former Sen. Norm Coleman (R-Minn.) – of a secretive and well-funded political action committee, the American Action Network (AAN), run by Cantor’s close advisor and former chief of staff, Rob Collins.

Rep. Peter King (R-NY), Chair of the Congressional Committee on Homeland Security and former fundraiser for Irish terrorist militia IRA – says that every Muslim is not a terrorist, but all terrorists are Muslims. Last month Peter King said that Occupy Wall Street consists of unfocused anarchists who don’t deserve legitimacy. “The fact is these people are anarchists. They have no idea what they’re doing out there. They have no sense“.

Israel-Firster Sen. Hillary Clinton received more donations for her presidential campaign from the Wall Street than his opponent Sen. Barack Obama. She was overjoyed by the news of Libyan leader Qaddafi’s brutal death at the hands of US-funded rebels, saying: “We came, we saw and he died“.
Last month, Israel-Firster Herman Cain, GOP presidential candidate called the growing OWS protesters “anti-American” and said protesters were merely jealous of those more successful. “I don’t have a lot of patience for people who want to protest the success of somebody else,” Cain said.
Former House Speaker, Israel-Firster Newt Gingrich, said on the CBS show, “Face the Nation“, blamed the OWS protests on “class warfare” fomented by Obama.

Israel-Firster, Sarah Palin, the 2008 Republican vice-presidential nominee, criticized both OWS and Obama on Thursday. She said that OWS protesters as believing they’re entitled to other people’s productivity and money and said they’he drawn the wrong conclusions.

Barack Obama is owned by Wall Street. The fat cats as he calls them, they’re his friends. They’re all his pals. That’s where he gets his campaign donations. And he is very generous about giving these fatcats their cat nip – bigger returns for their investments in bailouts,” said Sarah Palin.

So what is common between the major thugs at the Wall Street and the Islamophobes – well they’re mostly pro-Israel Zionist Jews. Watch video below.

And finally, last month an interfaith group of Jews, Christians and Muslims joined the OWS protesters at Zuccotti Park, carrying a golden reproduction of Wall Street bull, symbolizing and greed of biblical Golden Calf that was worshipped by Hebrew followers of prophet Moses when he went to receive Torah.

This golden calf is a symbol of the economic slavery Americans have allowed themselves to be trapped by,” said activist Warren Goldstein.

This is a symbol of our spiritual poverty in this country, of how far we’ve come from the basic principles of what we are supposed to be doing in this country,” said the Reverend Michael Ellick of Judson Memorial Church

Gilad Atzmon: Dershowitz is Desperate

DateSaturday, November 5, 2011 at 12:00AM AuthorGilad Atzmon
The wandering who- Gilad AtzmonIn yet another attempt to destroy ‘The Wandering Who’, a book praised by the most relevant intellectuals, humanists and writers around, Alan Dershowitz ends up associating himself with the most despised and discredited caricatures in the Palestinian solidarity movement- The infamous sayan Tony Greenstein and his close associate Sue Blackwell.

If Alan Dershowitz really wants to understand the ideology and impulse that leads him to write such drivel, he must read “The Wandering Who”. It’s all there. He may also grasp why everyone else who reads the book, praises it.

To read Dershowitz ‘s latest rant.

Though it is obvious that Dershowitz didn’t read The Wandering Who, here is a list of (out of context and deliberately misleading) cherry picked quotes both Dershowitz and his sender in Tel Aviv hate in particular:
“[T]o be a Jew is a deep commitment that goes far beyond any legal or moral order” (20) and this commitment “pulls more and more Jews into an obscure, dangerous and unethical fellowship” (21).

If Iran and Israel fight a nuclear war that kills tens of millions of people, “some may be bold enough to argue that ‘Hitler might have been right after all’” (179).

“It took me years to accept that the Holocaust narrative, in its current form, doesn’t make any historical sense. … If, for instance, the Nazis wanted the Jews out of their Reich (Judenrein—free of Jews), or even dead, as the Zionist narrative insists, how come they marched hundreds of thousands of them back into the Reich at the end of the war?”

“[E]ven if we accept the Holocaust as the new Anglo-American liberal-democratic religion, we must allow people to be atheists.”

Children should be allowed to question, as he did, “how the teacher could know that these accusations of Jews making Matza out of young Goyim’s blood were indeed empty or groundless” (185).
“The Holocaust religion is probably as old as the Jews themselves” (153).

“[I]n order to promote Zionist interests, Israel must generate significant anti-Jewish sentiment. Cruelty against Palestinian civilians is a favourite Israeli means of achieving this aim.”

“Jews may have managed to drop their God, but they have maintained goy-hating and racist ideologies at the heart of their newly emerging secular political identity. This explains why some Talmudic goy-hating elements have been transformed within the Zionist discourse into genocidal practices.
The “Judaic God” described in Deuteronomy 6:10-12 “is an evil deity, who leads his people to plunder, robbery and theft” (120). Atzmon explains that “Israel and Zionism … have instituted the plunder promised by the Hebrew God in the Judaic holy scriptures” (121).
The moral of the Book of Esther is that Jews “had better infiltrate the corridors of power” if they wish to survive (158).

“Many of us including me tend to equate Israel to Nazi Germany. Rather often I myself join others and argue that Israelis are the Nazis of our time. I want to take this opportunity to amend my statement. Israelis are not the Nazis of our time and the Nazis were not the Israelis of their time. Israel, is in fact far worse than Nazi Germany and the above equation is simply meaningless and misleading.”

This Is How Israel Runs The British Press

Introduction by Gilad Atzmon: The following is a glimpse into the Israeli Hasbara's/Mossad's/Sayanim's operation in the UK. It explains how Israel and its agents manage to dominate news coverage in Britain and beyond. It seems from the following leaked email as if BICOM (British Israel Communication & research Cemtre) runs the News desk for the BBC, Sky and the FT. I guess that last week the Guardian also joined the party. It is now an offical Israeli propaganda outlet.

Bicom 'embarrassed' by misdirected email

Source http://www.totallyjewish.com/news/national/c-16955/bicom-embarrassed-by-misdirected-email/

There were red faces at Bicom this week when an email from its  director intended for donors was in fact sent to the organisation’s  media database.

The email, sent by Lorna Fitzsimons, the director of the organisation,  “dedicated to creating a more supportive environment for Israel in  Britain”, stated: “Throughout the weekend, Bicom staff were in contact  with a whole host of BBC and Sky news desks and journalists, ensuring  that the most objectively favourable line was taken, and offering  talking heads, relevant to the stories unfolding.” She added: “Bicom has one of BBC News’ key anchors on a bespoke  delegation.

When planning her very first trip to the region, Sophie  Long got in touch with Bicom to see if we could help her out with  meeting in the region. Sophie is now spending three days of her trip  with Bicom Israel, taking a tour around the Old City, meeting [Israeli  government spokesman] Mark Regev…as well as visiting Ramallah and  Sderot.”

Most embarrassing, however, was the revelation that Fitzsimons – a  former NUS president and Labour MP for Rochdale – had “briefed  Jonathan Ford, the Financial Times leader writer for his upcoming  leading article” in the paper.

She noted Bicom had “regular contact with the Editor at Large of  Prospect Magazine, David Goodhart, helping to inform him about the  forthcoming UN vote on Palestinian statehood”.

A Bicom spokesman told the Jewish News that this “administrative  error” was “slightly  embarrassing”. He stressed that Fitzsimons had  not been “asked to resign or had offered her resignation”.

Gilad Atzmon: The Guardian of Israel

Israeli hasbara insists that an attack on Iran is compatible with both Western interests and NATO strategy. For example, this week Israel released information about an IAF exercise in NATO’s bases in Italy. The statement was made to create the impression that any future Israeli aggression against Iran enjoys Western backing. NATO however was quick to disassociate itself from any such attack. NATO leader Fogh Rasmussen confirmed in a press conference that the alliance has no intention whatsoever of intervening in Iran.
To date, we’ve not seen any British public official statement that would suggest that Britain is ready to back either the US or Israel in any possible strike on Iran.
Yet, it seems as if the Guardian, once a respected British newspaper, has already become fully integrated in the Israeli psychological war machine.
Yesterday the Guardian joined the hasbara chorus and informed us that the UK military has ‘amid fresh nuclear fears’ stepped up plans for an attack on Iran.
The Guardian didn’t even try to substantiate its claim. Instead, it produced a gossipy news story that didn’t adhere to the most minimal journalistic standards.
The Guardian reported that “British officials say that if Washington presses ahead it will seek, and receive, UK military help for any mission, despite some deep reservations within the coalition government.” This is a somewhat bizarre statement considering the complete silence of the Government and the MOD on the matter. Could Britain launch another criminal war, (this time, potentially a nuclear world war), with no public discussion or even a single official government comment on the subject? I don’t think so.
Did the Guardian make it up? I doubt it – it’s just suspiciously too damn similar to the official Israeli hasbara line. On the face of it, it looks as if the Guardian has, quite simply, joined the Israeli war machine.
Interestingly enough, the JC, Britain largest Jewish weekly was a bit more reliable than the Guardian. The JC wrote that, “the talks (between British and Israeli military leaders) took place as reports suggested that Britain was ready to back the US in a possible strike on Iran.” Yet the JC ended its report suggesting that at least “privately, senior MoD officials flatly refuted suggestions that Britain was ready to be part of a US-led attack on Iran.”
While the JC still seems to maintain some journalistic integrity, this week the Guardian failed miserably. It was caught, whether consciously or unconsciously, disseminating Israeli propaganda. But this shouldn’t take us by complete surprise. As we know, this same ‘progressive’ paper also censored Wikileaks concerning Israel and Palestine.
Like 80% of our ruling party MPs, who just happen to be CFI members (Conservative Friends of Israel), the Guardian also seems to be in open alliance with the Jewish State. I guess that friendship with Israel must really pay.
