GAZA, (PIC)-- The Palestinian medical relief society (PMRS) has said that the conditions of the disabled in the Gaza Strip had deteriorated during and after the Israeli war on the Strip.

It said in a statement on Sunday that the great shortage in services with the entry of the siege its fourth year running led to such grave conditions.

The statement on the occasion of the first anniversary of the Israeli war on Gaza noted that more than 35,000 disabled persons were living in the Strip, which constituted 2.5% of the population.

The siege led to the lack of raw material used in local industries, which in turn negatively affected the training and rehabilitation of the disabled, the PMRS underlined.

It said that 42.7% of the disabled are females and 36.4% are children.

The society beseeched all Palestinian factions and forces to end the state of internal discord and start the reconstruction of Gaza, it also appealed to the world community to pressure Israel to open all crossings and end the siege.

For his part, Muawiya Hasanein, the director of ambulance and emergency in the Gaza health ministry, said that the medical teams had sacrificed their lives during the Israeli war on Gaza to evacuate and save the casualties.

He said during a parade of ambulance vehicles in Gaza as part of the activities to mark the first anniversary of the war that the ambulance teams faced big challenges during the war and were still facing similar challenges in face of an oppressive siege
