GAZA, (PIC)-- The Popular Resistance said, in a statement on Friday, that it foiled an assassination attempt targeting the movement's secretary general Abu al-Qasem Daghmash.
The movement said that two booby-trapped bags were sent to Daghmash's office in the centre of Gaza City. The bags were delivered by an unknown person using a hired car.
The movement's security apparatus suspected the bags and started an investigation with the help of the Palestinian police and the internal security apparatus. An official investigation was opened.
The movement said that sender of the bags is not known yet and that Daghmash has ordered the pursuit and apprehension of those behind the failed assassination attempt.
It is suspected that the Israeli occupation is behind the assassination attempt through local agents of the occupation.
The movement said in its statement that such attempts only strengthen the resolve of the movement which has chosen resistance as the only way to restore Palestinian rights.
The movement added that the Israeli occupation will not succeed and that resistance will remain the rock on which all Zionist conspiracies are broken.
The movement further said that it will not be lenient with anyone who is found to be involved in this cowardly attempt calling on all resistance leaders to be vigilant against such desperate attempts by the Israeli occupation.
