GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Mahmoud Al-Zahhar, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, stated that his Movement’s coming to power protected the Palestinian resistance fighters from the previous Palestinian leadership and gave cover for everyone willing to resist the occupation.
In a statement on the 22 anniversary of Hamas’s inception, Dr. Zahhar denied that his Movement’s engagement in the political life affected its role in resisting the Israeli occupation, saying that the resistance has a comprehensive meaning and is not only limited to the armed confrontation.
He pointed out that Hamas, after 22 years, succeeded to achieve a large part of its national objectives and overcome the obstacles it encountered like imprisonment, deportation and assassination.
The Hamas official highlighted that his Movement is in favor of the national reconciliation on the basis of a reform program and not on dialog sessions of deception.
The official defended his Movement’s openness to Europe, affirming that Hamas leaders are not a duplicate copy of Fatah officials who hold meetings with European parties in order to make concessions on the Palestinian constants and serve their own interests.
For his part, Dr. Khalil Hayya, a member of Hamas’s political bureau, stressed his Movement’s commitment to the option of resistance as a means to restore the usurped Palestinian rights and rout the Israeli occupation.
Prior to Hamas’s anniversary carnival, Hayya said that his Movement stands on a solid ground because of the resistance program it adopts to regain the rights of the Palestinian people and achieve their aspirations.
For its part, Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, vowed in a press release issued on the occasion to continue its resistance until the liberation of Palestine and prisoners from Israeli jails.
“The battle has its ups and downs and the confrontation is long; we promised God to be at the vanguard of the [Muslim] nation against the Zionist project and its collaborators in the Arab and Muslim Palestinian land,” the Brigades underlined.
Thousands of Palestinian citizens wearing green, the Movement’s color, and waving Hamas flags flocked to Gaza City where Ismail Haneyya, the Palestinian premier, was expected to speak on Monday.
A male singing troupe dressed in military camouflage sang, "Gaza is free. Gaza is steadfast," as they marched in procession through Al-Katiba Al-Khadra plaza.
