GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Aziz Dweik, the speaker of the Palestinian legislative council (PLC), has said that the attempts of Mahmoud Abbas’s authority to circumvent the Palestinian legitimacy would be doomed to failure.

In a press statement to the Palestinian information center (PIC), Dr. Dweik stressed that the Palestinian people would not be sacrificial lambs for colonial powers and would not let their free will go to people other than their legitimate representatives.

The speaker expressed his regret and dismay at the violations committed against Palestinian women in the West Bank by Abbas’s militias, affirming that the Palestinian people would never forget such treasonous acts against Palestine and would vent their anger during the elections.

He called on the Arab leaders and the international community to respect the will of the Palestinian people and give the Palestinian experience a break to perform something away from external pressures and dictates.

Meanwhile, Abbas’s militias continued their arrest campaign against Hamas cadres and supporters in the West Bank and kidnapped six citizens affiliated with it in the districts of Al-Khalil and Qalqiliya during the last few days.

GAZA, (PIC)-- Khader Habib, one of the Islamic Jihad's leaders, said on Tuesday that any municipal or legislative elections before reconciliation are rejected.

He said in a press release that the elections should reflect the people's choice and holding such elections whether in the West Bank or the Gaza Strip would only deepen the internal division and widen the gap between the two parties and would not be honest.

He said that the people would not be able to cast their votes in objectivity and the elections would lack transparency.

Fatah sources said that municipal elections were expected in the West Bank by next May.
