National committee for detainees slams Israeli decision to banish 14 prisoners
[ 18/01/2010 - 11:20 AM ]
GAZA, (PIC)-- The committee for prisoners affiliated with the national and Islamic forces in the Gaza Strip strongly denounced Israel for threatening to exile 14 detainees who served their terms, saying that these threats reflect the policy of ethnic cleansing practiced against the Palestinian people.
The committee stressed that the international human rights organizations are demanded to immediately act against such Israeli repressive and racist practices against the Palestinian prisoners.
The committee also called for European, Arab and Muslim moves to pressure Israel to stop exiling prisoners from their homeland and allow families to visit their sons.
For its part, the international Tadamun (solidarity) society for human rights reported Sunday that Israel issued life sentences against more than 377 Palestinian prisoners during the past 10 years.
The society added that these arbitrary sentences were issued during nominal trials, where the prisoners were not allowed to defend themselves adequately.
It noted that these sentences were issued at the pretext that there were confessions made by others against them, affirming that Israel violates the international law which stipulates that the maximum life imprisonment term is 25 years, and retains prisoner in captivity until their death.
