10/01/2010 It's the Reconciliations' season in Lebanon…
On Sunday, Lebanese were able to witness the "huge turning point" of the reconciliations in Shoueifat where the people of Mount Lebanon, Beirut and its southern suburb met to "open a new page" and restore the unity of stances between them.
The reconciliatory meeting was attended by the head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt, the head of the Lebanese Democratic Party MP Talal Erslan, MP Ali Hasan Khalil representing Speaker Nabih Berri and the head of the Loyalty to the Resistance parliamentary bloc MP Mohamad Raad representing Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah.
The head of the Democratic Gathering MP Walid Jumblatt was the first to speak during the ceremony. Jumblatt addressed the people of Mount Lebanon, Dahiyeh, and Beirut by saying: "Common struggle is our destiny."
"There is no benefit from tackling back the circumstances that preceded May 7," Jumblatt said, adding that the Shoueifat reconciliation puts an end to a bloody stage that could have destroyed the political, human and social communication between the Mount, Dahieh and Beirut.
Speaker Nabih Berri's representative MP Ali Hasan Khalil was the second to deliver a speech during the meeting. "Today, we gather to restore the unity of stances," he told the attendees, adding that the painful chapters have been turned due to the sacrifices of everyone.
The member of the Development and Liberation parliamentary bloc stressed that the relation with the PSP was not to form a new front but to constitute a complementarity among all Lebanese citizens. While emphasizing that dialogue should remain everyone's choice in dealing with all sensitive issues, he pointed out that the meeting incarnates the Lebanese engagement in enhancing special relations with Syria.
Representing Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah, the head of the Loyalty to the Resistance parliamentary bloc MP Mohamad Raad then delivered Hezbollah speech. He emphasized that the meeting doesn't only aim at opening a new page but also at confirming the intention to go forward in safeguarding the country.
"We will stay consolidated and we will defend our land," Raad said. "Our solidarity deep-rooted the choice of resistance against every aggression," he emphasized, adding that "together we will support the Palestinian cause."
The reconciliation was concluded with the speech of its "sponsor" MP Talal Erslan who stressed upon the Lebanese unified constants. "No sound is higher than the sound of the national reconciliation," Erslan said, adding that other voices are a result of the colonialism and therefore come to oppose national unity and civil peace.
"Let's embrace the resistance because it is the only guarantee to protect Lebanon," Erslan pointed out, adding that foreign advices to abandon the Resistance are actually schemes to wipe Lebanon out of the map.
Yet, Shoueifat reconciliation doesn't seem to be the end…
On Monday, Jumblatt will pay a visit to the head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun, consolidating the "reconciliation" between the Progressive Socialist Party and the Free Patriotic Movement. Some press reports earlier said that an understanding could be signed between both sides, mainly over the issue of displaced people.
