DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Hamas said that the kidnap of Kamal Al-Tawil, the elected mayor of El-Bireh in the West Bank, at the hands of Abbas's intelligence in his office and insulting him in front of his employees was "security piracy".
It said in a statement on Tuesday evening that the movement strongly condemns the detention of one of the leaders of the Palestinian people, which constituted a coup against the Palestinian people's will who elected Tawil for chairmanship of El-Bireh municipality.
The detention points to the degree of political and security lowliness of the Fayyad government and its security apparatuses, Hamas said, adding that the kidnap clearly displays that the municipal elections called for by Fayyad would lack integrity and credibility because they are based on violation of the law and public freedoms in addition to arresting whoever disagrees with the Olso team and the security apparatus working under supervision of the American General Keith Dayton.
Hamas demanded the immediate release of Tawil and called fro respecting the will of the Palestinian people who elected Tawil as chairman of El-Bireh municipality.
Abu Zuhri condemns detaining Jamal Al-Tawil
GAZA, (PIC)-- Dr. Sami Abu Zuhri, a Hamas spokesman, has denounced the abduction of Kamal Al-Tawil, the municipality chief of El-Bireh city, at the hands of militias loyal to former PA chief Mahmoud Abbas.
Abu Zuhri told the PIC on Tuesday that the kidnap mirrors the quelling of freedoms and targeting Hamas in the West Bank and the concept of democracy as understood and practiced by the Fatah-controlled PA in Ramallah.
He criticized human rights groups that exaggerate what happens in Gaza while remaining tight-lipped toward Fatah crimes in the West Bank, which only encourages the illegitimate authority in Ramallah to commit more crimes.
Well informed sources told the PIC on Tuesday evening that tens of Abbas's militias savagely stormed the municipality building and took Tawil away.
Tawil was released from Israeli jails in September last year after nine months of detention, while he had been locked up in Israeli jails ten times before.
Abbas's militias also kidnapped Sheikh Ziyad Mishaal, 53, from his workplace in Silwad, east of Ramallah, on Tuesday morning.
Locals noted that the Israeli occupation forces were deployed in the town at the time of the arrest, adding that Sheikh Mishaal was elected to the Silwad municipal council while in jail in 2004 and had spent 8 years in Israeli captivity.
Abbas's militias also summoned Nihad Omar to the preventive security apparatus in Bethlehem. She is the office director of the Hamas lawmakers' office in the city.
Hamas MP in the city Khaled Tafesh told the PIC that those who were championing democracy and preparing for elections were fighting the offices of the deputies who were elected by the people.
Hamas issued a statement in Gaza on Tuesday denouncing the escalating arrests in lines of Hamas cadres in the West Bank, and holding the Fatah faction fully responsible for consequences of such political detention that "crossed all red lines".
