OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)-- In a new development, an Israeli occupation soldier from the border guards, who killed Jerusalemite citizen Ziad Joulani on June 11 in the Wadi Al-Joz neighbourhood in Jerusalem, admitted that he shot Jilani at point-blank range, according to Haaretz newspaper.
He also claimed he believed Joulani was a terrorist and killed him because he feared he was wearing an explosive belt. Further, he alleged he fired to protect the lives of innocent bystanders.
There are a few problems with this soldier's fishy account. First, by approaching Joulani so closely the soldier could clearly see he was not wearing such a belt. Second, proper training for such an incident and common sense demand that an officer should not approach a potential suicide bomber at close range so as not to be blown up along with the bystanders if a detonation occurs.
Furthermore, several residents went to help Joulani before he was killed and according to their accounts they were beaten by the police.
