2 Israeli Occupation Soldiers Injured in Gaza-Region Mortar Attack

17/08/2010 Two Israeli occupation soldiers were wounded on Tuesday after a mortar bomb launched by Gaza resistance fighters exploded in the Eshkol regional council in the western Negev.

This most recent mortar launch came in the wake of two clashes between Israeli occupation troops and Gaza resistance fighters last month.

On Monday, Israeli troops killed a Palestinian resistance fighter on the border with the Gaza Strip after an exchange of fire in which an Israeli occupation tank commander was also wounded.

Later on Monday, two Qassam rockets fired from Gaza struck open areas in the western Negev region, causing no casualties or damage.

An Israeli occupation army Spokesperson's Unit said one of the Palestinians killed in the incident was identified as Bassem Dragma, a senior Islamic Jihad operative who took part in the exchange of fire in late March in which 2 occupation soldiers were killed.

The exchange of fire began around 4 p.m. when occupation soldiers from the army's Givati Brigade identified two Palestinian resistance fighters who were apparently planting an explosive device near the security fence in the southern Gaza Strip.

The sources said the Palestinians belonged to the Al-Quds Brigades, Islamic Jihad's military wing.
