Aoun: No Negotiation on Indictment Once It’s Issued

30/11/2010 The head of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc MP Michel Aoun approved on Tuesday the recent statements made by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah over the awaited indictment to be issued by the so-called Special Tribunal for Lebanon, stressing that once the indictment is released, there would be no time to convene to address its repercussions, adding that if anything can be done, it should be done before the indictment is released.

“There can be no negotiating on the indictment once it is issued,” Aoun said. “If the indictment was released, the government won’t fall unless it resigns or the Prime Minister resigns,” he said, adding that the cabinet was unable to achieve anything.

He questioned the STL’s credibility, pointing out that accusations have been directed against Hezbollah of being behind Hariri's assassination after the July 2006 war failed in destroying the party.

“We have never seen a country die because of one individual or one political line of thought,” Aoun emphasized. "Our country is not a pawn to be used once in the name of false witnesses and once in the name of questionable justice," he added.

"Resolving the false witnesses’ case will not be necessary after the indictment is released because we want to find out who is responsible for them and not place the witnesses in jail," Aoun stated.
