Hamas in a press release on Sunday urged the Palestinian people and human rights groups to display solidarity with the detainees in general and those in Jericho, who declared a hunger strike, in particular.
It charged that their detention was in violation of law and the simplest human rights, adding that the detention only serves the "Zionist occupation", which is seeking to drive a wedge in lines of the Palestinian people.
Six of the Hamas detainees in Abbas's Jericho jail went on hunger strike on Saturday protesting their continued incarceration since 2008 without any legal justification despite a ruling by the higher Palestinian court of justice ordering their release.
