“We were in contact with several members of the city's police force prior to the attack,” a Press TV correspondent quoted Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid as saying on Monday.
According to Mujahid, the Taliban seized all the weapons and ammunition from the city's local police station and then they set the building on fire.
"At least 16 police officers joined Taliban forces after the takeover,” he went on to say.
Afghan officials say they have lost all contact with the city. Three other cities in the province of Ghazni had fallen to the hands of Taliban forces in the past.
