SEATTLE, (PIC)-- A US advocacy group has taken legal action to appeal a ruling by local government that removed anti-Israel advertisements from city buses, the AFP reported on Tuesday.
The Seattle Mideast Awareness Campaign (SMAC) had paid county authorities $1,800 in December to put the ads on 12 buses to protest a US pledge to provide Israel with $30bn in military aid in the coming decade.
The SMAC has sights set on challenging a judge who had refused to force King County transportation officials to display posters paid for by the group on local buses that say: ”Israeli War Crimes: Your Tax Dollars at Work.”
According to SMAC organizer Ed Mast, the ads were meant to coincide with the anniversary of Israel's recent war on Gaza that killed 1,400 Palestinians and injured thousands of others including women and children.
Meanwhile, Israeli war minister Ehud Barak has asked the US for an increase in military aid to Israel to counter presumed threats that could occur during the current changes in the Middle East.
Barak has asked the US to pay a total of $20bn to strengthen Israel's military, the Wall Street Journal reported.
The US currently pays $3bn annually to Israel to support the Israeli occupation army.
