Member of the Change and Reform parliamentary bloc of Lebanon MP Abbas Hashem said that President Barack Obama’s speech - in which he accused Hezbollah of carrying out what he called “political assassinations” - was not new.

He pointed out, in an exclusive interview with Al-Manar website, that “the US President read during his speech the imminent draft indictment in the assassination case of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri.
MP Hashem said however that “Mr. Obama” repeated in his speech points mentioned by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah four years ago.

While he slammed US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman, Hashem said that “the status of hesitation which this conspirator is living has reached its end”.

Hashem also said that any government, that does not reflect a new approach and performance in harmony with the sacrifices and agonies of the Lebanese people, was baseless.

The Lebanese lawmaker told Al-Manar website that the most important aspect of the US President’s speech before the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), the main pro-Israel lobby in the US, was that he mentioned points previously noted by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah in 2007.

Hashem clarified that “among these points was Obama’s acknowledgement that the Israeli enemy was in a serious and real impasse for a number of reasons, including the demographic growth, awareness amongst peoples, and the breakdown of the scare barrier around occupied Palestine. All these points were mentioned by Sayyed Nasrallah in 2007”.

The Lebanese MP noted that Obama concluded that it was impossible for Israel to remain a Jewish state in the face of these regional developments. “Thus, he proposed the dissolution of the two states as one of the means to preserve the Zionist entity,” he added.

Hashem highlighted the Hezbollah leader’s speech of 2007 as one that left a significant impact, “and the proof is that Mr. Obama has reiterated it in 2011”. He pointed out that “we’ve become more able to understand our enemy and more able to tell him that all the power that you and your supporters amass is useless”.

“Our determination will remain the strongest as victory is undoubtedly imminent,” he emphasized.

OBAMA READ OUT IMMINENT DRAFT INDICTMENT

MP Hashem commented on Obama’s accusations to Hezbollah of carrying out what he called “political assassinations”. “There’s nothing new in this rhetoric any way,” he stressed, while noting that “Obama has never used a less tense tone in this regard”.

Hashem added that “Obama appeared to be reading the draft of the imminent indictment in the assassination case of former Prime Minister Rafiq Hariri”. He stressed, however, that the indictment was not based on any international criminal standards.

On Future party politburo member and former MP Mustafa Alloush’s comments on Hezbollah, in which he claimed that “the practices of Hezbollah confirm it’s qualified to be a terrorist party”, Hashem said that “the serious and effective qualifications exist the psychological status of Alloush and his likes.”

LEBANON'S WORST DAYS … WITH FELTMAN

Turning to the latest visit made by US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Jeffrey Feltman to Lebanon, the Lebanese lawmaker recalled that Lebanon had witnessed the worst days and biggest massacres during Feltman’s tenure as US Ambassador to Lebanon. “Therefore, I don’t see any reason to comment on such people as those who lack reason and prudence are not to be blamed”.

Hashem reminded of reports about Feltman’s visit and how it was intended to drag Lebanon into pressuring Syria.

He said: “this underlines the state of victory which we live today. Feltman used to call, along with his subjects, for delineating and closing borders with Syria, however today he’s stressing the necessity to open them; not for humanitarian reasons, but to support unrest there. Don’t these double standards reflect a state of hesitation by this conspirator has
come to an end?

I personally view this from a positive perspective. We live in a world that only the strong are respected; this is why we have to be, and remain strong”.

WE'RE IN FRONT OF A NEW DAWN …

Asked about the failure of the new majority in Lebanon to form a new government, the Change and Reform lawmaker said: “Yes, we admit that we do not want to form a government which does not embody a new performance and a new approach corresponding to the sacrifices of the Lebanese people. Any government that does not rebuild the state of Lebanon on new foundations of justice and equality is useless. Any government that does not reflect a state of a serious and real partnership is also useless."

Asked whether this justifies the delay in the cabinet formation despite the fact that the Lebanese people are in urgent need for it, MP Hashem said: “What did the successive governments do for the people and what did they provide them other than debts, misery, and agony. We’ve had many governments; however, they only led to fiascos at all levels”.

MP Hashem concluded that “we’re in front of a new dawn; one that governments should be consistent with”.
