The Syrian TV on Sunday broadcast confessions of two members of armed terrorist cells who were arrested in the cities of Daraa and Banyas, revealing that the two cells committed acts of terrorism and vandalism against public and government establishments and the army.
Ali Zeidan al-Nasser, a member of an armed terrorist group in Daraa said that after taking part in the Daraa protests, he was contacted by a man called Mohammad Mehdi al-Farawan and met him in a factory belonging to al-Nasser's cousin, where he met the aforementioned man along with Najdat al-Zoebi, Abdelraouf al-Nasser, sheikh Tarek al-Nasser, sheikh Abdelbaset Abbas, Marwan al-Eid, Mohammad Hamdi al-Zaghel, Fayez Sleiman al-Farawan, Mohammad al-Aloun, Haitham al-Shemari and other youths.
Al-Nasser, a native of the town of Enkhel in Daraa who was born in 1973 and is married, said that during their meeting they discussed the protests in Daraa, saying that they should support Daraa and increase protests in Enkhel, and decided to organize four committees: medical, military, financial and media committees, the latter consisting of Haitham al-Shemari, Mohammad al-Alound, Hisham al-Eid, Rizk al-Dagher, Shihadeh al-Dagher and some journalists.
He said the media committee was charged with information, slogans and buying two Thuraya phones to contact foreign channels about occurrences during protests, while the financial committee was tasked with collecting money to buy weapons. The military committee, which consists of al-Nasser himself, Jamal Hamadeh, Marwan al-Eid and some youths, was charged with managing guards placed after protest to guard towns.
Al-Nasser said that the medical committee, consisting of Dr. Abdullah al-Eid and Wael al-Zamel, was tasked with providing aid to the wounded and buying medical supplies.
"After this meeting, Najdat al-Zoebi and Abdelraouf al-Nasser took me aside and gave me SYP 30,000 in advance in order for protest to be bigger, better and larger, saying that they will give me more money when the protests succeed," he said, adding that on the next day they burned down the police department and the party branch in Enkhel.
Al-Nasser went on to say that Diaa al-Nasser and Mohammad Mehdi al-Farawan went to the telephone switchboard armed with two military rifle, while he himself and Mohammad al-Aloun, Haitham al-Meshri, Ahmad al-Alloun, Hasan al-Nasser and Fadi al-Nasser attacked an army location and seized six military rifles and then went to town, adding that the next day they built dirt and cement barriers to cut off roads and dispatched armed men on the town outskirts to stand guard.
"We used to give guards SYP 3,000 to guard the outskirts of Enkhel… we also paid SYP 4,000 to those who attacked the army location before they went with us," he said, adding that after these operations they held a second meeting where they said that they will introduce al-Nasser as the leader of the revolution, which Haitham al-Shemari did, and that on the following day he and Jamal Hamadeh, Marwan al-Eid and Diaa al-Nasser distributed pump-action shotguns among the guards.
"A man came to Marwan al-Eid and they made bombs consisting of fertilizer, powder, wicks and nails… Mohammad Mehdi al-Farawan came with two men from the town of Jassem and brought us 11 bombs made of fertilizer, iron, nails and powder… we gave a bomb to each guard," al-Nasser said.
He pointed out that when they heard that security forces will enter Enkhel, the media committee presented a statement saying that they don't want the armed forces to enter town and that the town is stable and free of armed people and armed gangs, noting that the statement was recited by Hasan al-Kassem.
For his part, Abdelkader Mohammad al-Zeir, a member of an armed group from Banyas, said that he attended a meeting in the home of sheikh Anas Airout along with Anas al-Sheghri, Abu Ali Bayyasi, Safi Yassin, Abdelkader Adra, Mohammad Murad, Thaer Ourabi and Maher al-Masri in order to distribute weapons.
Al-Zeir, who was born in Banyas in 1978 and worked in repairing refrigerators and washing machines, said "The weapons were mostly rifles and pistols… we intended to give them to the people responsible for guarding the area… Abu Ali Bayyasi had been bringing the weapons and storing them at a cache underneath al-Rahman mosque.
"The weapons were arriving from Lebanon, Abdelkader used to go to the border area to bring them to Bayyasi," he added.
Al-Zeir said that Anas al-Sheghri and Abu Ali Bayyasi were supervising the process of weapon distribution at Anas Airout's house.
"We distributed weapons to the guards in streets because we were afraid that security forces will carry out an operation against us," he said.
"When we heard that the army will enter the city, we met and decided to establish an Islamic Emirate under the leadership of Anas Airout, Anas al-Shughri as the Interior Minister and Abu Ali Bayyasi as the Defense Minister," al-Zeir confessed.
"Concerning the explosives… Anas al-Shughri, Abu Ali Bayyasi, Abdelkader Adra, Safi Yassin, Maher al-Masri, Mohammad Murad and Thaer Ourabi met at Anas Airout's house and decided to prepare the needed explosives… They assigned two-person groups to be at specific locations such as the refinery and the oil pipelines and assigned Mohammad Murad and Maher al-Masri to be ready to detonate those explosives," he added.
"We transferred the first set of explosives after preparing them to be used in detonating the oil pipeline…. We handed the explosives to Mohammad Murad and Maher al-Masri… Later, we went to the refinery and give the second set of explosives to Safi Yassin and Abdelkader Adra… Then, we went to the thermal power plant and handed the third set to Thaer Ourabi and Khalid Ayyoush… We were waiting for any orders from Anas al-Shughri or Abu Ali Bayyasi to blast those places," he said.
"Abu Ali Bayyasi gave me payments of money, every one was SYP 20,000 and the total was about SYP 65,000" he added.
"I was guarding the highway on Monday when I saw two soldiers heading toward me… I opened fire on them and wounded one of them in his leg… The other soldier was providing the injured one with first aid when I snuck away and hid the rifle before heading back to my house," he concluded.
