'Failed opposition'

'Via FLC

"The desertions of the Syrian opposition by several members this week are the best news for President Bashar Assad and his regime since this uprising started.

The regime’s perseverance is in fact proving much more solid than the diffuse elements of the opposition, who are each singing a different tune.
They lack harmony, political maturity and have proved they are not fully attuned to the events or the needs of those on the ground.

There is no united front coming from the Syrian opposition. They have conflicting ideas about what kind of a nation Syria should be, about whether there should be a political or a military solution to the current crisis, or whether they approve or disapprove of outside military intervention.
They have had a year to get their affairs in order and produce a clear portrait of what is going on in the country and what their intentions for the future are, and they have failed miserably in their efforts, making the high costs that have been paid by the Syrian people in blood appear to be in vain.

Even if Western or Arab countries, or the U.N., want to help to put an end to the current miseries, they would not know with whom to communicate... Because of this what we have seen is the prevailing of calls for political solutions, the latest of which was British Prime Minister David Cameron who, standing alongside President Barack Obama, Wednesday said there would be no military intervention in Syria.

The failures of the opposition have created such a loss of confidence globally that it would now require a miracle to try to convince the world of their seriousness and ability to deliver... There is instead a good chance that their lack of clarity over what the country needs and wants, and what they stand for, will give the Syrian regime the opportunity to define them....."
