US showing prepared to go to war with Russia and China: Don DeBar
An American political commentator says he believes the United States’ plan to upgrade its stealth bombers is a message to Russia and China that it is prepared to go to war with them if need be.
Don DeBar, an anti-war activist and radio host in New York, made the remarks in a phone interview with Press TV on Saturday, commenting on a recent announcement by the US which says Washington is going to spend about $10 billion to upgrade the fleet of B-2 stealth bombers over the coming years.
“The Obama administration announces that it’s going to spend billions of dollars, that it doesn’t have by the way for unemployment insurance and job creation or anything else, but they are going to spend billions of dollars — tens of billions of dollars — to upgrade the stealth bombers that are used really, or only intended to be used, against the very advanced countries,” DeBar said.
“What they are doing is declaring, basically to Russia – and to China down the road – that we are prepared to go to war with you,” he added.
“And the intended payload of these things – when they were originally developed, and likely a component for current planning also – are nuclear bombs. So these are the devices that are going to be used either for heavy bombing with conventional weapons or with a nuclear war,” the activist stated.
“And so they are investing in that with the money they apparently don’t have to invest with healthcare here, education here, paying water bills for the people in Detroit so that they don’t die on the ground in Detroit here,” he continued.
“So what it does is lay out the priorities, or the intended path going forward, of this government,” DeBar concluded.
The radar-evading B-2 stealth bomber can deliver a wide range of bombs that can be satellite-guided to dozens of targets.
The aircraft was the first American plane to enter Afghanistan airspace in October 2001, following the 9/11 attacks. Since then, it has been deployed in Iraq and Libya.
The US military has already invested more than $40 billion in the B-2.
