US concerned with 'getting rid of Assad,' not ISIL

Washington’s primary objective is to topple Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and not to destroy the ISIL terrorist group, a freelance journalist says.

“The US is primarily concerned with getting rid of Bashar al-Assad. That’s the primary objective,” Siraj Davis, who is also a human rights activist, said in a phone interview with Press TV on Wednesday.

He made the remarks when asked about President Barack Obama’s plans for Syria.
“It’s not about eliminating the threat. It is about controlling the threat. This is a very cold and calculating game of politics,” Davis said.

“They want ISIL on the field, threatening both of the enemies of the US and Turkey and they’re going to create a buffer zone on the border and nobody should be surprised that Turkey has already suggested that there’s going to be a training camp along that buffer zone, along with the refugees in Syria in that buffer zone along the Turkish border,” he added.
The journalist also said there are 43 different insurgent groups fighting against the Syrian government inside Syria and this is “unacceptable.”

“You give them weapons. You give them money. You have a whole entire mess. That is Syria, that is Iraq and the US is behind it. They are funding inhumanity, injustice. They are funding the deaths of millions of civilians,” he said.

On Tuesday, Obama called for more support for the militants fighting against the Syrian government, warning the US-led coalition to be prepared for a long-term military campaign in Iraq and Syria.

“It’s going to require us developing and strengthening a moderate opposition inside of Syria that is in a position then to bring about the kind of legitimacy and sound governance for all people inside of Syria,” Obama said.

The United States has been arming the so-called “moderate” insurgents in Syria, claiming that they are potential allies in the war against the ISIL terrorists.

Some of the so-called “moderate” insurgents, however, are said to have teamed up with ISIL to topple Assad.
