[Ed. note – The old folklore idiom about “cutting off your nose to spite your face” comes to mind here. The US has lost face–huge, huge amounts of it–since Russia entered the Syrian conflict last September. And on Easter Sunday the loss of face essentiallydoubled as Russians played a key role in the retaking of the UNESCO World Heritage site of Palmyra, this by providing crucial air support for Syrian Army and Hezbollah forces on the ground.
It’s important to keep in mind that the defeat of the terrorists occupying Palmyra took place without any assistance from the US, this despite the fact that US forces are ostensibly in Syria to fight ISIS. As Syrian advisor Bouthaina Shaabanput it, the US “didn’t lift a finger” to prevent ISIS from taking Palmyra back in May of last year–and it seems we “didn’t lift a finger” to help retake the town in late March either. In other words, the US looks bad.
Now comes a report that in the past week Russia issued an invitation to journalists to come have a look at Palmyra and at the damage done to the city’s ancient ruins during the 10 months it remained under ISIS control–and not a single US reporter took them up on the offer. Four initially signed up for the excursion, but then cancelled out “as if they were following orders.” It seems that in addition to losing face, we’ve now cut off our own nose. Below is a brief excerpt from the report. ]
The Russian military have given access to journalists from 11 countries to the liberated Syrian city of Palmyra. Moscow noted the absence of American journalists in the group.
The group of 27 media professionals from Germany, Italy, Belgium, China, Serbia and other nations were transported from the Russian military base in Khmeimim to Palmyra on Thursday.
A lot of people have of course speculated that ISIS is in reality a US-Israeli creation. Now Global Research has gathered together and published the “Top Ten Indications” that this is the case. Click here to check that out.
Personally, I’m of the opinion that political leaders in Washington would do well to stop taking advice from people like Karl Rove.
“We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality — judiciously, as you will — we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do.”
The US is still (for the time being) an empire, but reality is no longer defined by what Zionist neocons and their media say it is. Since Rove made that statement back in 2002, we have seen the rise of RT, Press TV, Telesur, and other powerful, independent voices. Thanks to news agencies like these, as well as to thousands of blogs and websites like this one, those of us who live in the “reality-based community” are no longer dependent upon people like Karl Rove to explain to us the difference between good and evil.
Washington, however, deluded by notions of its own grandeur, apparently hasn’t figured this out yet.
