Daylight Robbery: UAE Issues Emirati ID Cards for Residents of Yemen’s Socotra

By Staff, Agencies

The United Arab Emirates [UAE], which is occupying Yemen’s Socotra Island, has reportedly issued ID cards for a number of residents of the strategic island in a bid to change their identity.

Citing multiple local sources, the pan-Arab al-Araby al-Jadeed media outlet reported on Friday that only the new ID cards are the basis of the UAE’s interaction with Socotra inhabitants.

The Emirati-issued cards are recognized for trips to Abu Dhabi and give their holders privileges, they added.

At the bottom of the cards a 15-digit code is written in English, whose composition is completely consistent with the ID cards that the UAE uses for its nationals and the people residing in the Gulf country.

The ID cards are issued by the so-called caliphate’s human rights body, but they have no traces of the institution.

A Socotra official said the Emirati body, which claims to advocate human rights, has turned into a military, security and intelligence agency that violates Yemen’s national sovereignty under the pretext of humanitarian measures.

The body’s staff are all security officers and members of the UAE army who spy on the Socotra residents and those who travel to the island, he added.

The Socotra official also noted that the people who received the cards were paid by the UAE to publicize them in Socotra, citing Mohammad Salem Ahmed, the director of the island’s ports, as an example.

This step, he added, was taken in line with the initial efforts to measure the reaction of the people in Socotra and Yemen, so that if the project is successful, the ID cards will be issued for all residents in the future in a bid to officially announce the island’s alleged connection with the UAE.

He said the Yemenis do not have a tab on foreigners entering Socotra as it is the UAE that issues entry and exit permits for all travelers whether businessmen, experts or military personnel.

Yemeni social activist, Jalal Mohsen al-Socotri, said people are worried as the UAE is forcing the Socotra residents to stop identifying themselves as Yemeni.

“This issue threatens all the people of Socotra, who previously fought to expel [the Emiratis] from the island,” he said.

“The life of the Socotra inhabitants has become a nightmare; they wake up every day and see the evil plots of the UAE. The UAE imposes its rules on them and surrounds them with foreigners and camps. The country has even replaced the island’s workers with foreigners in tourist facilities and private hospitals.”

Home to some 60,000 people, Socotra overlooks the Bab el-Mandib Strait, a main shipping route that connects the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden and the Arabian Sea. It has a unique ecosystem and been listed by UNESCO as a world natural heritage site.

Last June, the UAE-backed separatists of the so-called Southern Transitional Council [STC] took control of the resource-rich island in a move described as a “coup” by the regime of former Yemeni president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Now, the Emiratis have a military base on Socotra that is used to collect intelligence on maritime traffic in the Bab el-Mandib and the Gulf of Aden. Moreover, they are reportedly working with the ‘Israelis’ to set up spy bases on the Yemeni island.

The occupation of Socotra came two months after the UAE-backed separatists broke with once-allied Saudi-sponsored pro-Hadi militants in Yemen, saying they would establish a self-ruled administration in the war-torn country’s southern regions.

The infighting has dealt a blow to the Riyadh-led military coalition, which has been engaged in a deadly military campaign against Yemen since March 2015 with the aim of reinstalling Hadi in Sana’a.

Yemen’s Houthis Vow to Help ‘Defend Jerusalem’

Posted by INTERNATIONALIST 360° on

Armed Houthi followers ride on the back of a truck after participating in a funeral of Houthi fighters killed in recent fighting against government forces in Yemen's oil-rich province of Marib, in Sanaa, Yemen February 20, 2021.

The Yemeni Shia militia is known for its extreme hostility to the Jewish State, with its oft-touted four-part slogan including the lines “Death to Israel” and “A Curse on the Jews.”

Yemen’s Houthi militia will take part in the defence of Jerusalem in event of a broader conflict with Israel, a senior official from the political and militant group has indicated.

“Ansar Allah will be part of the equation in the defence of the Holy City of Jerusalem,” Abdul-Wahhab al-Mahbashi, a member of the Houthis’ political bureau, said, speaking to Hezbollah-affiliated Lebanese TV channel al-Mayadeen on Thursday night.

The official argued that the Israeli “enemy” may not stop its attacks unless resistance forces are able to target the Israeli hinterland, and suggested that Tel Aviv listens to the warnings of the leaders of the Axis of Resistance (the loose Iran-led Middle Eastern coalition opposed to Israel and the United States), because they do what they say, “unlike” the Arab League.

Al-Mahbashi went on to allege that Israel and the United Arab Emirates were working together in the construction of a mysterious military airbase on Mayun – a volcanic island off Yemen in the strategic Bab el-Mandeb Strait. “Israel is behind the Emirati banner on Mayun Island in the Red Sea,” he said.

Mayun is the second Yemeni island where the Houthis have claimed that Israel and the UAE are working together against Sanaa. Last year, media reported on the creation of a “spy base” on Socotra – a large island about 350 km southeast of the Yemeni mainland between the Guardafui Channel and Arabian Sea. Formally, the island is controlled by the “Southern Transitional Council,” an Abu Dhabi-sponsored entity formally seeking to break off from Yemen and create a separate state in the country’s south, but which is now cooperating with the Saudi-backed government of Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Even though the territory they control is situated over 1,600 km from Israel, the Houthis have repeatedly threatened to attack the Jewish State in the event of attacks against its territories, or if Israel attacks its allies in other countries. Among the group’s potential “bank of targets” are Israeli ships sailing through the Red Sea, and areas inside Israel proper.

Last month, amid the escalation of the conflict between Israel and Hamas militants in Gaza, Houthi Supreme Political Council member Muhammad Ali al-Houthi vowed that “the Arab and Yemeni peoples will go to support the Palestinian cause.”

In separate remarks earlier this month, Houthi leader Abdul-Malik al-Houthi said that Yemen was “an integral part of the equation announced by [Hezbollah leader] Hassan Nasrallah, which states that the threat to Jerusalem means a regional war, within the framework of the Axis of Resistance.”

Hostile Relations

The Houthis have repeatedly accused Israel of involvement in, or even the instigation of, the Saudi-led military intervention in Yemen which began in March of 2015, several months after they seized power in a popular uprising in the Yemeni capital of Sana’a.

On Saturday, the group released an hour-long historical documentary on the capture of a Mossad spy, with the expose exposing a range of alleged Israeli activities in Yemen over the past 50 years.

What Does The Future Hold For a Suffering Yemen?

 Source

YEM83222

On November 30, both sides of the Yemeni front line marked the 53rd anniversary of the end of British occupation and Yemen’s complete independence from Britain. However, it should be noted that true sovereignty of the Yemenis is not the reality of this country. The poorest people in the Middle East continue to suffer from foreign interference.

The war between the government of Yemen and the Houthi rebels has been going on since 2014 with the active participation since 2015 of the Arab coalition led by Saudi Arabia, which was supported by the United States, Britain, France, Germany. The West’s instigating role in unleashing the Yemeni conflict, in supplying arms to Yemen and various terrorist groups, does not stop either.

The President of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee of Yemen, Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, bluntly told the media on October 6 that the US counterterrorism struggle was a cover for attacks on civilians. “Saudi Arabia and the United States crossed all the red lines in the war against Yemen. They attack all vital targets and civilians with prohibited weapons and use the siege of Yemen as a pressure tool. One of the reasons the United States and Saudi Arabia still did not stop the war in Yemen, lies in the fact that they want to plunder the resources of the Gulf countries and put their mercenaries in power in Yemen,” – al-Houthi stressed.

As the  Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs claims, 233,000 people have died in the last five years of the conflict in Yemen.

In addition, hunger, which the world has not faced in decades, threatens Yemen unless urgent action is taken, said UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. He believes that, in addition to the ongoing hostilities, a significant cause of the famine is the reduction in funding for emergency programs in this country.

A human rights organization in the Yemeni capital, Al-Raidat al-Idala lit-tanimiyya wal-Hukuk bi-Sanaa (Pioneers of Justice for Development and Rights in Sana’a), in its annual report, showed statistics on the crimes of the Saudi coalition and human rights violations against Yemeni women stressing that “direct and indirect violations of women’s rights and their suffering as a result of the continued aggression and siege of Yemen have led to the killings, forced migration of thousands of Yemenis, health, education and nutrition crises, in addition to their psychological and social consequences.”

In view of the damage inflicted on the civilians of Yemen, a court in the city of Saada in the north-west of the Arab country, controlled by the Ansar Allah (Allah’s Helpers, Houthis) rebel movement, sentenced in absentia the highest officials of Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the United States “to death. executions for the killing and wounding of more than 100 people in an air strike by the Saudi coalition in August 2018 “. At the same time, the court sentenced “several officials in Yemen, the United States and the coalition led by Saudi Arabia, including King Salman bin Abdul Aziz al Saud and Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad bin Salman, the President of the United States Donald Trump, Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi., for involvement in the deaths of thousands of Yemeni civilians.”

The court also ruled that “the defendants must pay $ 10 billion to the families of the victims.”

Regarding the assessment of the development of the situation in Yemen, Deputy Head of the Yemeni Parliament Abdulaziz Jabari in an interview with the Qatari TV channel Al-Jazeera at the end of September said that “the real master of the situation in the territories not controlled by the Houthis is the Saudi Ambassador Mohammed Al-Jaber, who treats the Yemenis as his own subordinates”, seeking to carry out instructions from the Saudi kingdom and the UAE to establish “control over political decisions in Yemen.” At the same time, the deputy head of parliament stressed that the Yemenis “will not obey anyone,” and the monarchies of Saudi Arabia and the UAE “want to become strong players in the region at the expense of the Yemenis.”

The representative of the Ministry of Information of Yemen Mohammad Qizan said that “there is no talk about any 80% of the Yemeni territories liberated by the Saudi coalition, the government cannot return to any of the allegedly liberated provinces.”

As noted by regional media, recently, not only Saudi Arabia is trying to strengthen its military presence in Yemen. The UAE and Israel are also actively seeking to increase the number of their military installations, in particular on Socotra Island. For example, Israel plans to build its intelligence facilities on the island, and the UAE has begun building military bases and seizing large strategic territories in Socotra, which is controlled by UAE-backed separatists from the Southern Transitional Council.

At the same time, according to experts, by the end of 2020, trends in the Yemeni war were extremely unfavorable for the Saudi coalition. The foreign intervention that Riyadh began in the spring of 2015 with plans of a fairly rapid capture of East Yemen, the fall of Aden and a number of key cities on the coast, did not initially suggest that the war could drag on for so long. Ansar Allah is increasingly demonstrating that, with proper support, it can not only succeed in the Yemeni war, but also become for Iran what Hezbollah has become in Lebanon. “Ansar Allah”, speaking from the standpoint of protecting the territorial integrity of the country, attracts more and more supporters, including from the ranks of former opponents, who are massively deserting by entire tribes and divisions.

Today it is recognized that 2019 was the beginning of a radical turning point in the course of the Yemeni war. The flow of weapons and other foreign aid allowed Ansar Allah to firmly seize the operational initiative and win a series of landmark victories, while the Saudi coalition has not been able to achieve even small successes at the front for the past two years. By the end of November 2020, Houthi troops reached the approaches to Marib, where an attack on Sana’a was planned in June. There is a high probability that even before the end of 2020, the rebels will be able to take Marib, which may entail a significant destruction of the original plans of the Saudi coalition to resolve the Yemeni issue by force. In addition, the protracted Yemeni war continues to drain Saudi Arabia, whose budget has recently been bursting at the seams.

At the same time, unique opportunities are being created for Iran to deliver direct attacks by the hands of the Houthis on the territory of Saudi Arabia in response to the hybrid actions of the United States, Israel and the kingdom against Iranian forces in Lebanon, Syria or Iraq.

In Socotra, Protest against Normalization with Zionist Enemy

 Source

2020-09-20 09:59:53

The people of Socotra, on Saturday, organized a demonstration to reject normalization with the Zionist entity. The demonstrators burned Emirati and Israeli flags in the Nawajid area, east of the island. The demonstrators raised banners supporting the Palestinian cause and rejecting all forms of normalization with Israeli enemy, considering the Emirati and Bahraini normalization as a betrayal of Islamic sanctities and honorable Jerusalem.

Local sources said that the demonstrators chanted slogans denouncing the Emirati-Israeli presence in Socotra. They held the Saudi-led aggression and Hadi’s government responsible for the shameful silence about the Emirati-Israeli move on the island.

The STC militia intercepted the demonstration, blocked the roads leading to the Nejd region, and fired on the demonstrators.

According to local sources, the UAE militias failed to suppress the angry demonstration in Nawajid, which concluded its activities with the issuance of a statement denouncing the participants of the Emirati normalization with the entity of the Israeli enemy, confirming their absolute rejection of the Emirati occupation of the island.

The participants emphasized that the policy of intimidation and arrests practiced by the pro-UAE transitional militias will not discourage the people of Socotra from supporting the Palestinian cause and will not stop the wave of popular anger rejecting the Emirati presence, promising to thwart the Emirati-Israeli plot in Socotra.

Saudi Arabia, UAE… Relentless Pursuit To Tear Yemen Apart

Source
Jun 8, 2020

The hatred of Yemenis for the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia has increased due to the conspiratorial role that this state and that kingdom plays to tear apart the Yemeni social fabric and their relentless pursuit of striking Yemeni unity by supporting a herd of unscrupulous mercenaries and a sense of citizenship under a false illusion called “southern independence.”
With this filthy policy, the UAE and Saudi Arabia have become the first enemy of Yemenis and even Arabs in general for their suspected conspiracy role against Arab and Islamic peoples, whose reach reached in many Arab countries “Syria, Libya, Palestine, Lebanon, Somalia, Algeria, and others” which makes us wonder in the interest of those who work in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, all of these actions Unethical in the Arab region?
It has become known that they are behind all the conspiracies, crises and wars in the Arab region, using an enormous financial stockpile to implement conspiracies and intimidations entrusted to them by the American intelligence and Zionism.
In fact, these two countries play their dirty game to tear the country apart, strike its unity at the core, and return to splitting, using a group of dolls calling themselves the Southern Transitional Council to implement their hidden agendas of colonial ambitions on the Yemeni land, its strategic location, its important islands and its multiple resources.
Since the first day that the so-called Saudi-led coalition launched its aggression against Yemen, many wise men and patriotic leaders warned that the issue is not a question of returning what is called legitimacy, but rather there is a hidden agenda and ambitions for Saudi Arabia and the Emirates in Yemen “geographically, history and wealth” and this is what the days revealed and it became clear to everyone.
Saudi Arabia wants security arrangements on the border strip with Yemen with unfair conditions that affect the Yemeni national sovereignty, as well as obtaining a seaport to export oil across the Arab Sea without submitting to international agreements that give the passage state 50 percent of revenue and other ambitions, while the UAE’s goal is to control Yemen’s ports The three are Aden, Al-Hodeidah, Al-Salif, and depriving Yemen of the revenues of those ports, in addition to their ambitions in the Socotra Archipelago.
The UAE and Saudi Arabia are two states without history and without civilization … and they feel the complexity of deficiency when you see the rest of the Arab countries with a glorious history and great civilizations that contributed in supporting the march of human civilization with great and significant contributions .. Saudi Arabia has emerged as a country in the thirties of the last century while what is called the Emirates emerged into existence in the seventies of the last century.
Two states of bastards that predestined to control a tremendous financial stock and instead of focusing on the future and forgetting the past that did not exist originally, they were behaving madly and unbalanced … acts of neglect of reason and common sense to escape from the inferiority complex that they suffer from.
To implement their malignant agendas in Yemen, Saudi Arabia and the UAE are seeking, in a deliberate way, to divide the country into weak and vulnerable entities led by semi-men, puppets implementing the Saudi and UAE agendas. But a country like the Republic of Yemen is rooted in the depths of history, where successive civilizations have prevailed during many historical periods that cannot be the dominant summit of two beings with no history and no roots. We have history to see how Yemeni wisdom and power will deal with them.

Saudi-led Militants Start Takeover of Yemen’s Socotra after Fierce Infighting

Source
2020-05-06

Saudi Arabian-backed militants loyal to Yemen’s former president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi have started to take control of Socotra Island’s provincial capital of Hadibo after fierce fighting with UAE-supported mercenaries.
Socotra governor’s information secretary Muhammad Abdullah al-Socotri told Anadolu Agency that the takeover process began on Saturday, adding that it came as part of an agreement reached on Friday to end infighting on the island.
According to the report, the process began simultaneously with the withdrawal of armed units of the so-called Southern Transitional Council (STC), which is backed by the UAE, from positions they seized after intense clashes.
Last week, the STC declared a state of emergency and announced “self-administration rule” in Yemen’s southern regions, including the port city of Aden — which has served as the seat of Hadi’s former regime during the Saudi military aggression, sparking the tensions.
In August 2018, the UAE deployed more than a hundred troops with artillery and armored vehicles to Socotra. A few months later, a UAE official visiting Socotra said the island would become part of the UAE and its residents would be given Emirati citizenship.
In 2019, the UAE announced a surprise plan to withdraw part of its troops from Yemen in a major blow to its coalition allies.
Both the UAE-sponsored separatists and Saudi-backed Hadi loyalists serve a Riyadh-led military coalition which has been waging a bloody war on Yemeni people since 2015.
