DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- An alliance of Palestinian resistance factions decided to take a number of practical steps in response to the call for holding the Palestinian national council (a PLO legislative institution) made by its head Salim Al-Zanoun.

These steps include the convening of a national meeting attended by all Palestinian factions and forces in conjunction with the PNC meeting.

A senior member in that alliance told the PIC that the central command of the alliance held an urgent meeting on Tuesday which lasted until the early morning hours on Wednesday to examine the developments in the Palestinian arena especially Zanoun’s call for holding the PNC session on August 26 in Ramallah.

The source said that the Palestinian factions condemned during their meeting this call as a violation of the Cairo agreement in 2005 and considered that holding the PNC meeting as an affair concerning all Palestinian factions and not Fatah alone.

In the same context, the central command of the alliance of Palestinian forces called in a news conference on Wednesday for convening the higher committee of the secretaries-general of Palestinian factions and national figures in order to initiate immediately the rebuilding of the PLO.

The central command stressed that Zanoun’s call violated the Cairo agreement which stipulated the need for rebuilding the PLO and its institutions through holding free and democratic elections at home and abroad to restructure the PNC.

It called on all Palestinian factions and forces to boycott the PNC meeting and to be committed to what was agreed upon in order to restore national unity.
