Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America to Obama: "Our position is clear too ... Jerusalem is the eternal and indivisible capital of Israel"

White House:

"Our position is clear, .... The status of Jerusalem is a permanent status issue that must be resolved through negotiations between the parties.... We are dismayed at the Jerusalem Planning Committee’s decision to move forward on the approval process for the expansion of Gilo in Jerusalem,.... At a time when we are working to re-launch negotiations, these actions make it more difficult for our efforts to succeed. Neither party should engage in efforts or take actions that could unilaterally pre-empt, or appear to pre-empt, negotiations. The U.S. also objects to other Israeli practices in Jerusalem related to housing, including the continuing pattern of evictions and demolitions of Palestinian homes"

An ultra-Orthodox Jewish man pauses to watch the speech by US President Baracjk Obama delievered in Cairo on 04 June 2009 outlining his Middle East policy and specifically dealing the the Israeli - Palestinian confict. Obama stressed Israel must stop building settlements and Muslim nations must stop anti-Jewish incitement and he rededicated himself to search for peace within the parameters of the roadmap already agreed to between Israel and the Palestinians. Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America:

"Our position is clear too," said Nathan Diament, of the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations of America, in response to Gibbs' statement. "Jerusalem is the eternal and indivisible capital of Israel and the Jewish people and, in this context, it is also worth noting that that is the official policy of the United States as articulated in a duly enacted Act of Congress...."
