DAMASCUS, (PIC)-- Khaled Mishaal, the political bureau chairman of Hamas, has said that foreign interventions were the main reason for obstructing Palestinian national reconciliation.
Mishaal, speaking during a meeting with a delegation of the British House of Commons in Damascus on Monday, urged the world community to respect the Palestinian people's will, national rights, democratic choice and to respect the results of democracy.
He said that international pressure on Israel to end its occupation and recognize the Palestinian national rights is the basis for any just solution to the conflict in the region.
Mishaal criticized the world community for delaying relief assistance to the Gaza Strip, and underlined the importance of solving the issue of Palestinian refugees stranded at the Iraqi-Syrian borders in very difficult humanitarian conditions.
The delegates expressed conviction that no peace would be possible in the region without opening dialog with Hamas, which won the confidence of the Palestinian people in democratic and transparent means.
They also expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people's tragedy following the aggression on Gaza and rejected the siege imposed on the Strip.
The delegation members, who toured refugee camps in Syria and on its joint borders with Iraq, were told by those refugees that they wanted to return to their homes and villages from which they were forcibly displaced at the hands of Zionist gangs.
The delegation's meeting with Mishaal falls in line with European attempts to open channels with Hamas and to try and understand the Palestine cause through direct dialog with the Movement and to probe its vision toward latest Palestinian developments.
