RAMALLAH, (PIC)-- The Ahrar center for human rights and prisoners' studies has denounced the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) for extending the administrative detention of Sheikh Saleh Aruri, one of the prominent national leaders in the Palestinian arena, only few hours before his supposed release.
The center in a statement on Friday said that Aruri, who has been held in administrative custody without trial or charge since 24/6/2007, has faced yet another renewal of his detention for the seventh consecutive time for a period of three months.
Fuad Al-Khafsh, the director of the center, recalled that Aruri was detained in 1990 for six months under administrative detention while still studying in Al-Khalil University.
He added that Aruri faced the "charge" of finding the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, in the West Bank in 1992 and served 15 years in jail before his release on 11/3/2007 bringing his number of years behind Israeli bars to 18.
Aruri, 43, has been married for only 100 days when the IOA detained him anew in June 2007.
