Lawsuit filed against UK for not fulfilling its int’l duties toward Palestine

LONDON, (PIC)-- The high court of England and Wales will hold a hearing on Thursday to review a lawsuit filed by Al-Haq, a Palestinian human rights organization, against the British government over its failure to fulfill its obligations under international law with respect to Israel’s violations in the occupied Palestinian lands and the Gaza Strip.

These obligations, the organization said, arise in the context of Israel’s ongoing breaches of peremptory norms of international law, namely its denial of the Palestinian right to self-determination, de facto acquisition of lands by force, and its violation of intransgressible principles of international humanitarian law.

It added that the widespread civilian death and destruction caused during the Israeli war on Gaza coupled with the distinct failure on the part of the international community to take any immediate measures to enforce international law, have forced it to challenge the member countries of the international quartet directly, starting with the UK, in order to seek an end to the “business-as-usual” approach in relations with Israel.
