Hamas slams Spanish higher court for closing file of Daraj massacre

GAZA, (PIC)-- The Movement of Hamas on Wednesday strongly denounced the Spanish higher court’s decision to close the case of the Israeli massacre committed in 2002 in the neighborhood of Daraj in Gaza city, which claimed the lives of dozens of civilians.

Hamas spokesman Fawzi Barhoum said that this decision will encourage Israel and feed its appetite to commit more hideous crimes against the Palestinian people.

Spokesman Barhoum added that the massacre was condemned by the whole world and thus everyone must deal with it as a crime whether in local or international courts.

The spokesman appealed to Spain to reconsider and reopen this case so as to join the countries that defend the Palestinians against the injustice inflicted on them.

The Spanish higher court decided on Tuesday to close the file of the massacre committed by Israel in Daraj neighborhood.

The court rejected an appeal filed by human rights and legal organizations against an earlier decision issued by another Spanish court that suspended processing the aforementioned lawsuit and closed the file in June 2009.

The Spanish national court had closed the lawsuit regarding Daraj massacre at the pretext that it had no jurisdiction to judge the events that happened at the time, the thing which prompted those who filed the claim to resort to the higher court, which in turn turned down the appeal to reopen the case.
