NABLUS, (PIC)-- Al-Ahrar center for prisoners' studies and human rights held the Israeli prisons authority fully responsible for the death of ex-detainee in its jails Rabea Harb, who was completely paralyzed from the waist down after he sustained serious injuries during an Israeli assassination attempt many years ago.
Director of the center Fouad Al-Khafsh said that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) cannot be absolved from its full responsibility for the death of Harb, a Palestinian resistance fighter affiliated with the armed wing of Hamas.
Khafsh explained that Harb was directly hit in November 2006 after he was chased for a long period of time by Israeli troops and sustained serious bullet injuries in his spine, kidneys and intestines.
The director added that despite his serious injuries, Israeli officers interrogated Harb as he was receiving medical treatment in Ein Karem hospital in occupied Jerusalem and threatened to kill him if he did not confess and provide them with information.
He elaborated that the IOA, afterwards, sentenced him to two years in jail, during which he was exposed to deliberate medical neglect and his health was deteriorating very badly, but after his release in October 2008, he was denied access to medical treatment abroad before allowing him belatedly months ago to travel to China.
Harb came back from China without any progress in his health and died yesterday (Sunday) after a long struggle with illness.
For its part, Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, declared the martyrdom of Harb as a result of injuries he sustained during an Israeli assassination attempt years ago in Ramallah and hailed his personal attributes and his history full of heroic acts and sacrifices.
The Hamas Movement also mourned on Monday the death of Harb and vowed to protect the option of resistance until the liberation of Palestine.
