'The Mossad may have been involved in death of German politician'

BURLIN, (PIC)-- A newspaper in Germany proposed that the Mossad, Israel’s foreign intelligence, may have been responsible for the death of former German minister Uwe Barschel in 1987.

The former Christian Democrat in Schleswig-Holstein was found dead in a bath of cold water in a Geneva hotel on October 11, 1987. Official investigations did not clarify whether he was murdered or committed suicide.

Barschel earlier threatened to go public about an illegal military aircraft sale by Israel to Iran.

Former Mossad agent Viktor Ostrovsky spoke in detail in a book he published in 1994 on a hit operation against Barschel.

Research conducted by Swiss toxicologist Dr Hans Brandenberger after reopening the case showed a shocking match with the scenario described by Ostrovsky.

“The chemical results indicate a murder,” he said.

“Due to the complexity of the murder scene, a professional team that was at work, not a single person.”

Brandenberger learned about Ostrovsky’s account of the incident after offering his analysis to the German Welt am Sonntag newspaper.
